Trying to place what these are. Forest spirits? Strings of lights? One of those fancy color-changing pens? Also possibly worth noting this is another break of the usual chapter page format a la Meetings and Re-Meetings, though admittedly these two lines cropped like usual would be pretty underwhelming.

I'm guessing it's to do with Robots. Much Ado With Robots.

Agree with Gotolei. The colours look very foresty. Maybe a garland for a forest party? Maybe Annie is going to see her crush again?

Ok, so basically every major plotline has been held up for ages due to Anthony's return and Annie's breakdown and perhaps this is the point where our protagonists push forward again.
Bets on what storyline is resuming first?

My vote: The Court is experimenting on spiders by giving them LSD.

Reminds me of the forest streamers, which are also used to decorate Foley. Maybe a Red chapter?

I believe this Chapter will be about Annie's birthday. The chapter page shows part of the party decorations and the chapter icon is some kind of cake or candy that has landed on the floor (possibly in a flashback to one of Annie's birthdays at the hospital, considering the color of the floor).

I always found it interesting that on formspring Tom always evaded answering questions about when Annie's birthday is - it's the kind of evasion he usually uses for things that might actually be plot points. I believe the only thing he's ever confirmed is that Annie's birthday comes before Kat's.

My first thought on the chapter art was hair. Two strain floating in the Ether. The chapter icon looks like a broken chocolate figure to me, like a chocolate bunny. Or wood broken off from Ysengrin arm (only yummy to magical termites).

Strange thing about the birthday theory is that we have been watching Annie (sorry, this sounds unintentionally creepy) for more than a year already, so we should have witnessed her birthday already. ***UNLESS*** of course it's February 29th!!! (And Kat and everyone else is just too insignificant to have their birthdays mentioned, ever.)

Presents were exchanged at the end of the summer break. I assumed the lack of birthdays was an extension of that artistic choice. Of course it could be a Court policy of some kind.

I think Tom mentioned he regards birthdays and specific dates as unimportant for the story. Some indication of this on his Formspring answers. And we just had a chapter with Annie and her friends going out, I doubt we will now have a chapter with the same people celebrating a birthday. (speaking of birthdays; I always wondered about our esteemed author's birthday and age: searching the "Questions to whoever feels like answering" thread I found this)

Well, there's only a few big days I could think of that might apply:
- Robot's body is ready (but I highly doubt that, considering his arm was only recently made); - Graduation (This is the ending of the regular study season coming up, so maybe there's gonna be another graduation ceremony for the gang?); - Coyote and Ysengrin come to visit the Court (After what happened last time, I doubt the Court would REALLY be interested in them coming over, but who knows how it is for them?); - Jeanne is finally engaged (Super doubtful); - Kat comes out as a god (Hey, you never know!)

- Graduation (This is the ending of the regular study season coming up, so maybe there's gonna be another graduation ceremony for the gang?); I'm pretty sure Kat has a few more years, and Annie was held back a year, so not them. George could be graduating. And since - as I understand things - there's a certain amount of flexibility in when one graduates from British schools, it's possible that George and Andrew are BOTH graduating. Or maybe they are officially getting hitched. They'd have to free Mr. Green's spirit and persuade him to propose to her. (The persuasion might not be all that hard.) Come to think of it, that would be a fun way to end that particular story thread... Oh, that isn't the sort of "engaged" you meant?
