That face Winsbury made didn't make me less attracted, just made him more awkwardly adorable.

WTF is going on?
I am back to the "this is some ploy he was talked in to" theory.

Winsbury and Janet have a plan, calling it now. But not like the story about the street racing horse, since obviously that actually happened.

Perhaps Rey is threatening to kill Janet if she doesn't stop him!

Oh, I get it now. Extreme measures on everyone's part but Janet's to find a stooge to force Janet into a positive declaration, eh. Apparently even Winsbury himself didn't know if he and Janet were truly an item. Presumably he could settle for Annie if Janet refused to commit. If I were Annie just the sheer tawdriness of the insult would probably have me burning improper language into random objects.

Oh noooo, this is not looking good! It seems like Will and Janet may have gone through some difficulty and Will was either talked in to asking out Annie or decided it would be the best way to get Janet's attention? I feel so bad for Annie. D:

Looks to me more like the aftermath of a tiff than a plan. Like, they have a fight Janet says "We're through!" and Winsbury says "Fine! I always wanted to date other girls anyway -- maybe I'll ask Antimony to be my girlfriend!" but he doesn't really mean it, he just wants Janet to be afraid of losing him for real. Which is why he chose Antimony, of course, because Antimony terrifies him and so that's the first name he thinks of when he wants to make Janet afraid. But Janet doesn't back down, so he has to go through with it in order to avoid losing face. Hence his relief at her arrival.

I think a theory I read in the comments is most likely true: They planned to get Annie as a fake girlfriend to hide from the principal.

That face Winsbury made didn't make me less attracted, just made him more awkwardly adorable. You're kiddin, right? I was just about to leave an ironic comment about him being the true sultan of seduction, but it appears that this "with gun to my head, I prefer asking you out to dying" -face of his is sexy for some. On a more serious note, the way this goes now turns pretty cruel to Annie. Had they (whoever are plotting and what) been explaining this fairly and openly to Annie, it could have been alright, but seriously asking her to be his girlfriend without telling her the real situation and then that "oh thank god!" when he doesn't have to... How smooth and considerate from you, Will. which of those emoji is rolleyes?

You can find one or two that resemble rolling eyes in the little emoji drop down window that pops up in the advanced reply page. It's labeled with a yellow smiley.

I think a theory I read in the comments is most likely true: They planned to get Annie as a fake girlfriend to hide from the principal. Yes, this seems the most likely now. I was very wrong yesterday as I thought it was Winsbury doing it without Janet's approval, now it looks like a plan they hatched together to hide their relationship, let the entire rest of the class in on, but they are both now regretting before it has even been fully carried out. And is very cruel to Annie, again, who has been led along only to find that the one time a boy might like her it was a trick all along EDIT: Also is it just me, or does William's face in panel 2 look extremely similar to the headmaster? Getting worried now as to why exactly William and Janet's relationship would be so off limits...

And is very cruel to Annie, again, who has been led along only to find that the one time a boy might like her it was a trick all along It doesn't look to me like Annie has any idea what this is all about. She looks more puzzled than embarrassed. EDIT: Strike that, I looked at it again. Still, it looks like she didn't like the idea anyway, so I don't expect any hurt feelings in this case.

Yeah, I was thinking I was reading too much in a single flattish curve and a pair of startled eyes, but I could absolutely see a certain "well, I never expected this at all; how do I let him down nicely" emotion play around her face, there. What makes this less a comedy and more a tragedy is that we know that he probably really does like Annie, just not so much he would willingly give up Janet for her.

Oh wow, more fuel to the parallels of Gunnerkrigg. Is it just me, or does Winsbury look more and more like a certain young man from the forest we have seen briefly in 'Coward Heart': gunnerkrigg.com/?p=770Jeanne and Janet, both women from the court who were and are fighters and had to hide their love ... oh, I hope this ends well for Janet.

I was thinking that they might be using Annie as a mask from the beginning. Kat obviously doesn't know about William and Janet but I suspect Annie might. She did over hear Lindsey and Bud when they were talking and one of the thinks they talked about was William and Janet.

I must admit that I can't wait for the plot to be about non-relationship matters again...

Not gonna lie: this is a bit of a painful page to look at, partly because of William's strained face there, but more so because, well... Annie's feelings have been whip lashed again.

William and I had the same reaction. Now we'll finally get some answers. Next week probably, since Tom likes to torment us so.
