I love how supportive Rey is. He is probably my favorite etheric character, if not my favorite character in all of Gunnerkrigg Court.

Duly noting the mask of self-belittlement appearing.
"Almost got it", says Tom.

I assume Annie is saying "I - I..." in the fourth "panel", but on first glance it looked like Renard was saying it from off the third.

I know it's a bit squicky (and I think I remember Tom saying that it definitely won't happen), but I do wish that Annie and Renard would one day get together.

You were in theater, right? I can tell because you capitalized Kat's whole name. I did middle school plays as part of English class and orchestra in high school for the spring musical.

I think I had some kind of drama class in middle school, but no proper theater class. Seen a script or two, though. E: for what it's worth I did do seven or eight years' worth of concert band. Maybe I got it from there, iunno the hardest part was not putting up a rickroll joke instead

I know it's a bit squicky (and I think I remember Tom saying that it definitely won't happen), but I do wish that Annie and Renard would one day get together. Well, give it like 10 years (in-comic). Maybe something could happen given time. Who knows. But it would be sweet, eventually, in the distant future. On a related topic, I'm glad Annie has finally made her apologies, and that Renard accepts them. So glad.

Yes, Tom... it WAS tantalizingly close! Yet it all broke down the moment she felt regret and shame over what she did... perhaps just one more sign that she isn't fully ready to re-integrate with her elemental spirit?

Reynardine is about as close to a normal father figure Annie is ever going to get. Add to that how he worries about her studies and helps her control her burgeoning power, it's like she's the daughter he never had with Surma. In an semi-unrelated note, I just realised this whole "reintegrate with emotions and fire elemental" thing could be a metaphor for puberty.

She's angry at a whole bunch of people but she's angriest at herself (Kind of like her dad, actually... but he abandons people/situations instead of setting them on fire and screaming at them so it's harder to recognise as anger)

Kat's fashion sense continues to progress, in contrast to Annie and the frumpiness of the school uniform she is usually wearing these days. Kat looks like a young adult while Annie looks like a child.
Now that I think about it, Kat had her own fashion nightmares when she was sorting out her orientation. Hair and clothing reflecting personality and mind.

As a historically too-serious teenager who still hates looking at his own emotions, I find myself sympathizing with Annie more and more with each chapter. Never stop your magic, Tom.
Also, I really love the type of coat Kat is wearing. Does anyone well versed in female clothing happen to know what that style of coat/jacket is called?

They also need to talk and reconnect. Annie could use the contact of and with another human besides the etheric Rey. Annie lives in a complicated reality.

That's what I was thinking, but I wasn't sure, since my first thought about peacoats always involves (male) sailors, which Kat probably isn't.

I don't know what makes me sadder: to see Annie still living in that prison, or the fact that the dull grey attire is part of her current etheric form Actually, her clothing has always been grey in the ether, because it's non-living and non-magical So that leaves only one thing to be sad about, hah.

I'm wondering if it's actually going to be a Sad Thing in the long run. Big, giant open-air space? No peer scrutiny, aside from friends dropping by every now and then? No apparent neighbors? What better place would there be to practice projecting, or flying, or fire-ing, or any other manner of magic-y stuff that she could work on in her spare time without having to worry about noises or bright lights or weirding people out or whatever? (other than the forest obviously. but going there presumably requires some level of planning, and having to actually travel there, while here she could just put whatever chunks of spare time she has to use) I mean yeah it still sucks as a living space, but it isn't necessarily all bad.
