And now Annie's breaking the usual border as well. Honestly, I think it's just an aesthetic way of representing the (metaphysically) fluid nature of the ether. People keep bring it up, but I don't think it's too big of a deal personally. YMMV, though. I haven't paid too close of attention to the borders, but hasn't Annie done that before?

It was a bit of a wildcard early on, but seems to have stabilized more recently. It could very well be nothing, yeah, but what good is this forum for if not overanalyzing things?

Not really: It could very well be nothing, yeah, but what good is this forum for if not overanalyzing things? (OK, I'll bite) There is no such thing as overanalysing Gunnerkrigg Court!
(well there probably is, but I do think Tom is showing us something here.)

I'd participate in the border dispute if I had anything useful to say on the subject, so I'll g I in a different direction. Renard says "strength without control is often a dangerous thing," and it's the end of the page. It also looks like he had more to say. I think we are going to get a story of when Renard lost control. The chapter thumbnail also shows Renard in a "mildly agitated state," so it's likely that that image or something similar might come up.

wheeeee! next page next page next page Yes! Seems like the way the comic flows, the next page will be a splash page showing Annie in all her firey awesomeness. Something akin to the one where Zimmy describes Kat, or where Robot describes what it means to feel. I see these pages as character defining art-work. I really look forward to seeing Annie's.

It seems like in the last section of the page, Annie might be trying to reconnect with the fire elemental thing

It seems like in the last section of the page, Annie might be trying to reconnect with the fire elemental thing I share that impression. The gap in the hair is getting smaller. I doubt if her non-etherical hair will reflect the change if she succeeds, but it won't throw me for a loop if it does. It is a magical story, after all. :)

This chapter is totes a training montage. AND I LOVE IT It will be interesting to see how this goes. While Renard can give Annie advice about the ether he may know little about actually coming to terms with the Fire Elemental. It can exist separated from Annie so I think it is a separate entity. Will Annie subdue it or learn how to communicate with it? Will they come to terms and together make a pact? We have seen stories like this before and an agreement between the two parties creates a stronger bond. The outcome usually leads to abilities greater than the sum of the parts.

She does it at least all the way back in Chpt. 26, when Coyote is teaching her to affect physical objects while "in" the Ether. The look back for that chapter has a bit in it where Tom explains that (at least then) he was using the borders of both the page and the panels as a way to show the metaphorical edge of physical reality. Coyote and Annie extending beyond them (or reaching into them) shows an being in the Ether having the ability to ignore those barriers if they so choose. Coyote (and Renard and Ysengrim) has more mastery of this, but it seems to apply to any being "in" the ether. It's weirdly absent from the sequence with the former fairies in class during Chpt. 36, though. Probably for convenience of telling the story than anything else.

As someone noted, the comaic boundary is beginning to blur: flames are starting to intrude. I checked the end of 'The Tree'. Annie's hair is slowly growing out again. (Was half-neck. Is now collar.)

She is actually burning the border... See also 807 and (sort of) 676. Suspecting, she's accidentally burning something in real life too, kicking the main plot of this chapter in motion. We'll see.

I haven't paid too close of attention to the borders, but hasn't Annie done that before? Not really: But on other hand: Page 676 - bottom-right corner, as well as page 678 (look at borders) and next pages. And Tom's comment on that: YouTube

I was suspecting she'd burn her stuff and would need to spend a night at Tony's place or something like that, but as it turns out, Tom is too classy for that sort of plot devices.
