Is that some kind of posture, Annie?

Judging by their size (all the children are a bit smaller than her, even when she's hunched over), they're her new classmates. And she doesn't like the sport? That's new.
On more important news: Renard still doesn't care about panel borders. I think we're onto something here.

Getting hit in the head is only ok when you've planned to hit the ball. Other way leads to cursing and fire.

I guess Carver needs to get her head in the game, eh? Eh? Something something about being of fire.
Anyway, I thought things were looking up for Annie, honestly. Wonder why she's got an expression like she's trying to imitate an Espurr. You're the one not paying attention to the game, missy, don't give them that look.

Oh God
OH GOD
I wouldn't wanna be the guy who accidentally cuts her in the lunch queue.
I'm reminded of the Courage The Cowardly Dog episode where the hair ointment Eustace tries causes anything that makes him mad enough explode.

Do not hit the Carver in the head with a piece of sports equipment.
Or the Carver burns everything.

Ysengrin would have scolded her for not burning the ball before it hit her.

Standing off to the side, looking off into the distance daydreaming, and deeply resenting every molecule of my gym uniform, the waste of time in forced activity, the game itself back to the invention of balls, and everyone ever born? Yeah, totally me during every gym class ever.

My pet speculation on this page is that the Fire Elemental did this independently of Annie's wishes. We never saw them re-merge, and the Anniemental seemed more angry (plus, more pyrokinetic) than "Annie" herself.

I see the big dumb giant is still not capitalizing on her size to gain followers, though the path of the firestarter/telekinetic mysterious tough loner bad girl can also be fun I guess. Standing off to the side, looking off into the distance daydreaming, and deeply resenting every molecule of my gym uniform, the other kids, the game itself back to the invention of balls, and everyone ever born? Yeah, totally me during every gym class ever. Same. Not so bad getting hit in the head with a volleyball... Not recommended in baseball, the sport what likely birthed the saying, "Keep your eye on the ball (or else)."

I don't think it's possible to separate what the Fire Elemental wants and what the rest of Annie wants (she tried and it didn't go incredibly well). I rather think we can make a difference between what Annie feels in the instant and what she wants to do after thinking it through for 2 seconds. This just looks like a burst of anger at getting hit. Like when someone steps on you toes and you glare at them, regardless of whether they should be blamed or not, simply because it bloody hurts.
I wouldn't expect her to do that to a person, though. There are different instincts and inhibitions that kick in with people and with objects.

"Goodness gracious! Great balls of fire!"
What? Did no one else think of that?
I had been contemplating the restoration of my calmer avatar, but the thousand yard stare in panel 4 suggests I should wait a while. (Besides, spider hunting Zimmy is the best Zimmy.)

While Annie's retailiation reflexes are nearly instantaneous and superb she needs to work on avoidance and defense.

I wonder why she's so hesitant to join them in their reindeer games. She spent a year in the forest bonding with the creatures there, and the concept of actually participating in sports with her juniors (well, classmates now) doesn't sit with her? She's taking this grade drop very, very seriously if it's damaging her ability to invest in the present.
And if she's meditating or imagining, that's irresponsible during the middle of a game. Hopefully Friday we get an explanation for why she's standing like a slumped statue.

I think a teenager being separated from her friends against her will is unlikely to approach the situation rationally for quite some time, if ever.

Is it just me, or has Annie's hair grown a bit longer? That might symbolize the return of some of her abilities

I'm confused by Rey's line "I think we know why that happened". Am I missing something obvious? Is there a general consensus now that Annie is an emotional wreck, so this slip up was expected? Or is he going to elaborate on his comment in the next page? And what is Tom's "Same" supposed to mean? Same as in, "I didn't enjoy games class either"? Or same as a response to Rey's "we know why that happened"?
I've never been this confused by a GC page before, I don't like this feeling. @_@
And yet it is an awesome page.

The ball vanishes in a puff of annoyance. Ysengrin would have scolded her for not burning the ball before it hit her. Yup... and Tsukahara Bokuden would be harsher on her than ol' good Tony. If he was her teacher, anyway - fair's fair. Standing off to the side, looking off into the distance daydreaming, and deeply resenting every molecule of my gym uniform, the waste of time in forced activity, the game itself back to the invention of balls, and everyone ever born? Yeah, totally me during every gym class ever. I blame inability to concentrate. If you focused only e.g. on your uniform, molecule by molecule, you just could amass enough of anger to destroy... but then, why start with the uniform? Not so bad getting hit in the head with a volleyball... That depends on how it's thrown, no? Though these kids are unlikely to qualify.

Excused from gym class on account of no uniform/nudity? Added bonuses would be a newfound popularity with boys and unquestioned cred as a nonconformist, but at the cost of having to meet with the school psychologist weekly from that moment until graduation.

I hope so, because right now I can't decide if it's that or "You should know why that happened... if you payed attention", and I'm usually paying a lot of attention. My radar seems to be off and that makes me nervous. Next page please (o__o;)

A lot of times people in these kinds of situations will over complicate their motives when looking at their actions, I feel like Renard is just being supportive and keeping it simple and clean in that it was a defensive/reactionary response to injury. It doesn't help that her ability to control her powers is inhibited without her blinker stone.
