I would say Robot has been flooded with biotech hormones, but I think we've seen him react this awkwardly around Shadow2 for awhile now.

So sweet - shows that Robot hasn't actually gone evil under his preacher persona. Which I'm glad of: misguided is preferable to evil.
Also, interesting implication: do robots normally "forget" data, or is it a byproduct of the arm wired into his chip? If so, he may be becoming more human than he intended...
Also, Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays (from my time zone), fellow Forumers!
silent night on the forum, no?

I also must add, I quite love how neither Shadow nor Robot have really had that much distinguishing between genders and have mostly remained genderless.

It is, however, canonical that they both consider themselves male. So their relationship is the first gay relationship in the comic, predating Kat's. And I'm totally fine with that, as they are adorable together.

This is the weirdest thing I have ever shipped this hard. BRB, crying. I could say this is the weirdest ship I've ever wholeheartedly set sail on, but that would be a lie. It's possibly the cutest though. Shadow and Robot are my ideal too. Such a power couple. Super strong, super fast robot with sweet sword moves and excellent leadership potential, living on a second chance. Cool shape shifting shadow person (perfect for spying and sneakery!) who broke all the rules and forsake what they knew to find a home- and who who can turn into a bird! and fly!

You know you're deep into a fandom when you ship an AI and a shapeshifter, heh. But Tom's managed to write them as convincing, non-biologically-human-but-emotionally-human characters, which is a great testament to his writing.

And I'm totally fine with that, as they are adorable together. People can be extremely good friends or even best friends without sexual desire/lust... eg Annie and mom, Annie and Kat, possibly Renard for Annie. Some people feel that normal non sexual friendships should come before sexual ones, eg the more vulgar expression "bros before hoes". A pet such as a dog can also be "man's best friend"... a loner might be more attached to their pet than to any human friends... pet may even sleep in same bed... without any desire for sex with the pet. Example of man who's best friend is a pet bear: www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVMBdi4dgME

Some people feel that normal non sexual friendships should come before sexual ones, eg the more vulgar expression "bros before hoes". Some people do feel that, and people can absolutely be close without sexual undertones (though there are certainly Annie/Kat shippers who frequent these boards). So, um, I agree with you on everything you said there. Although I find the example of Annie and Surma slightly horrifying, because I don't think anyone would ever suggest the alternative. But your comment is irrelevant when it comes to Shadow and Robot's relationship. Presumably the relationship is non-sexual in the strictest sense because of physical impossibilities*, but there is absolutely a romantic dimension beyond normal friendship to their relationship. For example, check here, though there are plenty of examples since then. And they both do identify as male, even though both lack physical attributes, so their relationship would be homosexual. Furthermore, it undeniably precedes the development of PazKat by several chapters. In other words, it would make sense for the two of them to be close non-romantic friends (as they were for a long time). But it's not what the comic has portrayed in recent chapters. It's pretty well-accepted that Robot/Shadow is one of the canon romantic pairings in the comic. Also the cutest. *for the moment, heh. Biotech could open doors!

Although I find the example of Annie and Surma slightly horrifying, because I don't think anyone would ever suggest the alternative. Idea was that a) were best friends when mom was alive "could not bear to be apart" and b) yes quite clearly not sexual, unlike some who might ship the other examples. " I don't think anyone would ever suggest ".... sadly in world we live in that is not true, pornography is one of biggest markets on internet, and what is popular is lots of things we find horrifying, including all sorts of types of incest. (Google searches for movie scenes, etc have a way returning porn matches... I suspect we would also see child porn if not illegal... people are willing to risk jail time to make or view child porn which likely includes incest child porn)

Also, interesting implication: do robots normally "forget" data, or is it a byproduct of the arm wired into his chip? I like to think the latter. Well Christmas day in Europe already of course. A day off with obligations for most of us I guess. I read today's update in the car. Yes, Tom Siddell great planning! This is the weirdest thing I have ever shipped this hard. BRB, crying. I'm not sure about weirdest, but I love them, and so does my family. One would normally think of the last panel as flirting, but Robot is probably not aware of that, he just states a fact.

Merry Christmas, forumites! Also, interesting implication: do robots normally "forget" data, or is it a byproduct of the arm wired into his chip? If so, he may be becoming more human than he intended... Interesting question. I'll wildly speculate something like that could be caused by a buffer dump from an electrical irregularity of some type. While it's a side effect of "flesh" that makes Robot more human-like in the short run, something like that really should be looked into as a bug... particularly as more "flesh" is added later. Unless human mental illness/cognitive problems result in which case I guess it's not a bug it's a feature.

I don't think they're traditional collections of 1s and 0s with the kind of memory (permanent or temporary) we have in our irl computers. They're their own thing, so who knows how their "memories" work, or what they can forget. Though if I had to think of an actual irl computer analog, I guess it'd be like getting a program abruptly closed before you could save your work. Or, like, seeing Shadow 2 flooded his RAM (or its equivalent) so hard and quickly that his literal thought process got obliterated before any of its results could be committed to memory.

Also, Robot now confirmed for smoothest talker in Gunnerkrigg Court: dude runs a cult AND knows how to make people sway with his deliciously on-point sweet talking. Just look at the fan-girling / fan-boying in this thread for exhibit A.

So their relationship is the first gay relationship in the comic, predating Kat's. I wouldn't say that; it's my understanding that Zimmy and Gamma were an already established couple when they got to the Court, although "couple" can and should be applied loosely in this case.

Fair enough. That's not an entirely normal relationship, even by Court standards, though. It's like a codependency with romance involved, haha.

I don't see the romance yet... when I was in school long ago, lots of people had extremely close best friends, closer than most of that age to their girlfriend without any kissing, etc or considering it a romance, or themselves gay. Sometimes 2 siblings - eg 2 brothers or 2 sisters are extremely close, twins especially. (if they are same sex then the sisters or brothers can't make mutant offspring because of inbreeding, and yet still no desire to have sex with each other once old enough)
I wouldn't consider a codependency like "Mad max beyond thunderdome" where Master and Blaster were codependent as lovers. Similar game of thrones (haven't actually watched the full shows but seen clips, read plots, etc) - Brandon and Hodor - codependent and not lovers, not romance. Another example from fiction: the twin grandchildren of original protagonist Paul in Dune series of books were twins that were always together when young, of nearly one mind.... nothing tied to romance.
At times the extreme best friends may resent idea of a "girlfriend" taking away their friend from their former activities, eg the crude "bros before hoes".

Also, interesting implication: do robots normally "forget" data, or is it a byproduct of the arm wired into his chip? If so, he may be becoming more human than he intended... If it's normal, it might explain some past ditzy behavior by robots. Perhaps, Court robots live in the moment. They can plan and calculate future events, but only in regards to, the data of the moment they find themselves in. When the moment changes, their plans (or inner monologues) can become irrelevant and are subsequently dropped. Some robots (Robot) may see a bit of forest, but for most it may be nothing more than "Tree. Tree. Tree. Tree. Tree. Tree..." Perhaps, increasing their Ether footprint might change that.

I can barely handle their cuteness already, this would make me explode x3 Be careful what you wish for... it could save robot, but could also inspire greater levels of insanity among a group than even loveboat... 100 robots each in love with someone "love is beautiful, makes us better" and look for ways to overcome rejection, rivals, etc though wonderful powers of jealousy, anger, etc. We already had a training manual that warned about robot crushes, loveboat "fatal attraction" may common outcome. Robots have already shown potential to make even fairies and forest creatures look sane and moderate.

The pornography industry is struggling. People aren't willing to pay, since they can get porn for free elsewhere on the internet. Sometimes even the same content, ripped from pay-to-view sites.
