Robot seems unimpressed with his new limitations.

Hoping he ends up 'getting it' after having to wait for it to heal. Just, like, two minutes before Kat was showing him how floppy and weak it is and the first thing he does to test it is vaulting a wall? wat Bow before my mastery of the space-time continuum! That and editing the OP ~90% of the time

Kat should give Robot a face next. You know, with muscles etc. It will be capable of emoting. And then, GLORIOUS REVOLUTION!

Don't worry, Robot. Ms. Kat said to take it for a test run.
Test. To destruction.

I wasn't saying there was cheating involved, was saying it kinda goes against the old spirit of the thing though now that i think of it i did refresh the comic at 59:55 by my system's time, still old page, and this thread was up literally three seconds later iunno, man

Since every other modification by Kat was perfectly fine for vaulting over walls.

well... it's a bit of an anthropocentric approach... does robot want to be "a real boy" or does he want to be "real" (for a very flawed definition of realness imo). The jaws of a lion/ tiger/ wolf are extremely real and biologic and powerful. The legs of a frog are also all of these things and it can leap at great heights compared to its size. Ants and bees are also biologic and extremely intricate and powerful in their way. Flesh and bone might not be steel and polymer but comparing them based on psi or hardness would be out of place imo. The real question here is what makes a human, human? cf. Terry Pratchett's Wintersmith and Feet of Clay.
"A man has Strength enough to build a home, and time enough to hold a child, and Love enough to break a heart."

So... did Kat just officially declare that Robot is now a part of the realm of the living?

Overwhelming sensor data. Physically weak, easily damaged, but not easily repaired or replaced. Oh, and Kat hasn't mentioned the inevitable system failure due to age. At this point, a sensible robot would pass on the organic "upgrades". But Robot is a fanatic so there will be none of that. EDIT: Kat keeps on referring to the arm as a "rig". Seems like she doesn't consider it to be final/permanent version. Maybe she thinks her biological components will be interchangeable like mechanical components. well... it's a bit of an anthropocentric approach... does robot want to be "a real boy" or does he want to be "real" (for a very flawed definition of realness imo). Sometimes just because of familiarity instead of hubris.

Okay, so it's not just grown robotics, but growing robotics.
Kind of reminds me of some old sci fi book, where space settlers use horses and carts instead of hovercraft and 6 wheel drive vehicles. Feeding and keeping horses is a lot easier than looking after trucks when there are no gas stations. Also, a self replicating machine that's also edible made more sense. I think it was Heinlein.
I wonder what the other S type robots will think of this, though.

Okay, so it's not just grown robotics, but growing robotics. I don't think it is growing so much as it is adapting. Robot should be going through a battery of excersises to get a sense of what the modifications can do and the limitations rather than racing out into the world.

Maybe she thinks her biological components will be interchangeable like mechanical components. Certainly I would hope for more fingers and a thumb in the finished product. Or maybe deformable psudopods.

Or maybe deformable psudopods. I was wondering why he didn't have phase-shifting bones. I imagine the Court has the technology. It would allow his arm to have the dexterity of an octopus's tentacle when in gel-form, and the lever strength when in solid-form.

Or maybe deformable psudopods. Maybe Robot shouldn't be able to change the shape of his appendages. It is bad enough that he will probably get a bare appendage stuck to a very cold object in the winter. He doesn't need the ability to change an appendage so it fits into an electrical outlet. Or make it sharp and pointy while he runs around.

I personally don't feel that Robot is expressing disappointment or anything related. Those are simply the facts of the situation. Kat probably should have thought to mention it, though between innate familiarity with her own meat sack and a lack of appreciation for just how little the robots know about humanity, it's understandable.

Sometimes you forget your thumb is broken. Robot looks a little bit lost, this is all new to him and he has to take the time to get used to it. Shadow can help slow him down. Also, does the Court hold ceremonies or celebrations for their students?

Interested to see if the lesson Robot learns from this is that flesh is fragile and weak and that Kat wishes everyone could be "fixed" like a robot.

If it did, it wouldn't be able to do this. His hands might contain bone-like structures just for extra dexterity, though.

Perhaps, the hand bones are for pincer strength, like the beak of an octopus. Sadly, handcuffs are now his greatest weakness.

Bandaids. Another thing S13 is going to have to get used to.
(I sense that Kat's just written another verse in the Gospel of the Angel with that last comment. "And when the Angel's Prophet discovered that he had inherited both the beginnings of flesh and the limitations thereof, the Angel reassured him thusly: Welcome to the World of the Biologic."
"Homunculi 2:42")
