Not very original, but I propose that only one of the Annies is connected to the afterlife guide contract and only one to the forest medium job, but the fire spirit is shared. This is represented by the fact that only one Annie has spoken to Loup, and only one Annie has the antimony necklace that doubles as the afterlife guide sign. www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1339Also, if this is true then Annie's "etheric attractiveness", now only in the Medium Annie, could be used to explain why Tony is so friendly and open around only her. In contrast, the other Annie has been doing a lot of fighting Forest creatures, which isn't very Forest-Medium-like.

People have speculated on Annie and Kat having a serious falling-out that would place them on opposite sides in a conflict, and I recently had an idea for how such an event might happen (I've chosen to overlook, for simplicity's sake, the "two Annies" situation).
Loup said that the reason why he's been waging war on the Court (and presumably, that applies to the other hostile forest-folk) is that the Court's experiments are endangering the Forest (particularly the etheric foundation that Coyote wove for it). Annie hasn't thought over this (as far as we can tell) as yet - not surprising, given that so much else has gone on. However, when/if she does have an opportunity to ponder it, she might come to the conclusion that the root of the problem is the Court's work and that it has to stop, because:
1. As long as it continues, there can never be real peace between the Court and the Forest - at best, an uneasy truce, which could fall apart.
2. She cares about the forest-folk, and wouldn't want to see them wiped out by the Court (or whatever fate its experiments would visit upon them).
Kat, however, being a keen scientist (and already showing a desire to experiment with things like Diego's arrow), might oppose Annie's arguing against the Court's research and experiments, leading to a rift between them - probably the most serious rift between them yet, that can't be solved as easily as, say, the trouble between them when Annie returned from the Forest at the start of their third year....

I don't think anyone's ever said that, although there is a good chance it's true. For reference.

The psycopomps' claim on Annie's soul could prevent Loup acquiring power over Annie, so he needs this deal to actually succeed for liberating her. www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=2036

(And, quite possibly, replacing it with a new obligation to him. Which he somehow neglected to mention.)

Etheric attractiveness mandates that Monky, the ashtray, will touch Antimony's forehead (the one currently wearing the Antimony necklace, so the green one) with its scorpion-finger and start an etheric projection conversation while Annie (the one not currently wearing the necklace, the lilac one) gets confused and attacks because she didn't get to stay attractive post-split and fighting forest creatures is what she's used to after six months of siege

One of the main themes of the comic so far has been the duality between the court and forest, and Annie being forced to balance the two. Now there’s a very literal split between those two halves of her. I think maybe at some point, the two Annies will be forced to choose which of them goes (into the ether? Into nothingness? Who knows) and who will stay.

They'll mix the lake water and the bone and a tiny Coyote will pop up to say:
"Oh that useless coywolf? Just turn on that thing named like a comic book doomsday weapon and it will dismantle him, then I'll get back to myself and fix everything"
"Just don't let it go on at full power or it will destroy anything etheric nearby, including you Fire Head Girl"
"By the way, I'll need my powers back, cousin *wink*"
PS: okay, that's not really wildspec since it's in the realm of possibilities one can guess from the clues we have, I'm sorry

The necklace is annie's mom. Now that they traded it, court annie will get to experience normal 1 on 1 Tony as forest annie did cause she can now actually be alone with him

Brilliant!

Brilliant! Annie didn't really sent what was left of her mom to the ether, she just thought she did. She actually absorbed the last bit of her mom's soul into herself thus completing the fire elemental cycle. Also, both Annies now share the same soul so if any of them gets pregnant both will die/transfer

The title of Chapter 71, coupled with Court!Annie's focus on Rey leads me to speculate that the reason why Kat is the only one who can touch her computer's etheric screen means she's cracked the "ownership" regarding Rey's binding to both Annies.
Since she used the robots code to do this, along with the arrow, I'm going to guess this is the source of her sorrow: She's found out something probably about the robots she really doesn't like.

I am 99.9% sure Tom said that the robots do have personalities but no souls, and thus cannot influence the Ether. Yet it seems they are retroactively making Kat an actual divine being, which can (according to Coyote's theory) only happen through belief of souls taken to the Ether.
Based on this I speculate the following: Because of the robot's quest to evolve, and the organic bodies Kat is creating for them, humans will come to believe that the robots do indeed have souls... which on the human's deaths will change the Ether and make the robots have souls... which will make the robots able to influence the Ether upon their deaths... which will make Kat their Angel now, because, of course, she must always have been the Angel on Earth, at least since S13 saw her for the first time.

Is the ability to believe beyond proof in a transcendent reality beyond the physical sufficient? Perhaps, but then S13 could be said to have spontaneously evolved one when he saw Kat as Angel and this would seem to go against Tom's explanation (see pyradonis above). Does one need to be organic as well? If so, maybe Robot (=further evolved S13!) has one already now?

She found the etheric analog to computer user authentication. Username: Angel Password: her soul PS: maybe she found out about the whole divine thing the robots made her into? I mean, Antimony had 6 months that we don't know about and she was probably curious about Kat's etheric appearance. I don't know how I'd react if I was unwillingly made into a god

Their brains are designed for them to be happy slaves. Since that thread of Court thinking has led to inequities such as Albert's catatonic bubble shield maintenance, Kat will be led to join with Robot in a robot insurrection to free them, to give them free will. "More human" means more than organics, it means freeing the robots' minds as well, giving them a choice in how to live.

On rereading the story about Coyote being a dead goose in a bush by a lake, and his revealing that he was all three... There's already been major speculation about how the morals might lead to how to solve the Loup problem. But I had a thought as to how else the story might relate, and I don't know if anyone else has made any wild speculations about it yet. Like, Coyote tricking himself to be the dead goose is analogous to tricking himself into being Loup, obviously. I'm sure that's been said before. But then the bush could be analogous to the forest (he's technically made the forest what it is today). And the lake could be analogous to... the Court? Maybe not as wild as "Coyote is the Court" per se (although, do we have any idea wtf is up with this entity people keep referring to as "the Court"??), but perhaps he was the shield that blocked Loup from hitting the court? After all, he did say he tricked himself in the goose story, and I very much doubt his conjecture that he was only stopped by being surprised by the shield bubble. Furthermore, the idea that the court themselves couldn't override the protocol that the court themselves presumably put into all the robots (without the hardware overrides) seems suspect... Like the court is not actually grappling with itself, but some other entity meddling in its affairs...

Since all Court staff members denied any knowledge of the shield protocol, I always assumed someone with less trust towards the Forest had installed it in secret... Interesting though, that this mysterious person obviously does not want to take any credit, or at least smugly say "I told you so!"

This idea coming just in: The thing that just appeared on page 2147 is a demon or similar mythological being Diego made a contract with to gain the ability of creating golem hearts and thus quasi-sentient robots. If Kat wants to take it to the next level, the being will demand she negotiates a "New Contract" with it.

Assuming that the entity responsible existed when Kat and the Court said she was completely unaware of the shield function.
Maybe in the future the Mecha Angel will go into the past and install the defense shield knowing it was necessary to fend of Loup's attack. Not to far from the theory that the Mecha Angel of the future created the Tic Tocs in the past, maybe even taught Diego how to create the first generation of bots.
Kat wouldn't know about any time travel shenanigans she might do, or did do, in the future after she completes her transformation into the Mecha Angel.

Shifted here from Today's thread:
There's too many examples of the ether being manipulated like a computer for this to be a coincidence:
What if the arrow breaks things by.. moving the pointer ("arrow", get it?). ITS LITERALLY GOTO.

This has been percolating in my head for a few days now, but since the arrival of Saslamel, I've wondered if perhaps this is not going to be the moment of ascension for Kat - if that moment is still further away. For example, despite Robot's assertion that her experiments are the first true deaths, they're still (probably) not connected to the Ether in any way, and really it's going to take the death of an etherically-connected being for the idea of Kat the Angel Creator to really start to take shape. Like, say, Arthur (although I hope not), or some other newly-embodied robots who are subsequently killed while believing in her.
Of course, that's all assuming she's allowed to create any more beings like Arthur, having used the arrow in a way that ticks off the Powers That Be. But I feel like the events to come are about as inevitable as the Maud'Dib, at this point, and this threat of jail for The Creator is just a bump in the sand dunes.
