Some of this has been mentioned in this thread, but that seems too long ago to dig up again so I'm starting a new one. I speak astrology better than alchemy (same symbols to an extent, of course, but I don't know much about how they'd play out in practice in alchemy). Do you think Mr Siddell speaks astrology? I keep seeing overtones of a particular sign of the Zodiac in the art of a certain main character. Anyone else noticed it? If this is deliberate, it's very clever. Any other astrology-based theories to share?

I for one would like you to explain your theory. I have a feeling that several fields of ancient knowledge are present at once on GKC.

Well, there aren't as many examples as I thought, but these: edit: actually, I ran out of attachment space but www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=152 is an even better example of that last one. And this one, while it doesn't have any of the shapes in it, is still somehow the most Leo thing that can be imagined. Those, things, round her arms and legs even make her look furry. I'm going to draw a picture of Antimony as the Queen of the Jungle. Now I think about it, though, I only started noticing that after I got the idea from somewhere else. I actually started with Kat. Somebody was wondering whether if Antimony is Fire, does that make Kat Water - but it occurred to me that the astrological complement of Fire (opposite it in the Zodiac) is in fact Air. In astrology the point exactly opposite in the Zodiac indicates the "one particular person" - lover, best friend, business partner, and even arch-enemy all come under that. I'd say Air fits Kat very well, or at least her role in whatever weirdness the Court is going through as the Prophesied Science Angel. Air is intelligent, talkative, rational, good at technology, and of course, the thing about angels is they fly And of the three, it obviously has to be Aquarius - the sign of modern technology above all others, and also famous for idealism and loyalty to its friends. Which makes Antimony Leo. I'm not trying to accuse Mr Siddell of intending any of this, by the way; just practising my astrology! Leo does fit her well, I think. Leo is the sign ruled by the Sun - which keeps being associated with Antimony in the Treatises. Rubies are also associated with Leo, and in terms of personality, charisma, self-confidence, leadership, and a love of dressing up. Annie started out as a little detective cat that walked by itself, then when she came back from the Mighty Jungle, she started to be the class ringleader... but then she lost her mane! (Yep - hair genuinely is another Official Leo Subject.) Watch this space... So to complete the set, you'd need another pair, one who was down to Earth and one who had a special connection with Water. But I don't know where you'd find those.

And I could see Parley being Water - she is quite a fluid character in several different ways.

I never even thought of those two! That makes a lot of sense and if we're talking specific signs Smitty's got to be a Virgo. Pisces feels like a good fit for Parley's powers (low-level mediumship, going from A to C without passing through B), but definitely not personality-wise...
As for Jones, I tried to work out what sign you'd call her but gave up :-D In fact, Jones's birth chart is presumably the same as that of the Earth, which is an interesting thought. One thing I can say: according to current most popular astronomical theory, Jones has no Moon sign. Obvious Earth-sign connection notwithstanding, Cancer might actually work. Of the Court staff, she seems one of the ones most concerned about the actual welfare of the kids (in a poker-facedly professional way). Cancer with a very, very hard shell.

Finally got around to finishing my picture! Kat and Annie as Aquarius and Leo: Corresponding Water and Earth signs to follow as soon as I get around to finishing the computer tweaking.

And here are Scorpio and Taurus! The contrast's not quite right somehow, I don't know how to sort it out.
