Of course. OF COURSE. Just when it was starting to get interesting.
Annie puts up quite literally no resistance - I am growing more worried about her every strip that's released. They need to get her away from him as soon as possible, and hopefully now they've seen how horrible he is we can get all three Donlans working on this.

TThis goes to show Anthony is not merely hopelessly socially inept. He's tactically evading by claiming Annie as an excuse.
And his unwillingness to stay in the company of his one time closest friend just reinforces to me that he's up to no good.

I keep hoping that something will happen to help Annie be less... in this situation... and it keeps getting worse and worse. This felt bad before (before Anthony started talking at all), it feels somewhat horrifying now.
We need Zimmy to punch him in the face again.

I suspect on the next page he'll forbid Annie from spending any time with Kat.

Yeah, provoking a standoff so soon wasn't going to end well. I suspect on the next page he'll forbid Annie from spending any time with Kat. "And Kat. I understand you have some sort of friendship with her? This friendship will be passed to me."

I suspect on the next page he'll forbid Annie from spending any time with Kat. He may not need to - Annie may be getting fed up with Kat at this rate. Dangit, Kat - can't you see beyond your own hatred of Tony to how you're inadvertently punishing Annie? She wanted a nice dinner out with you and your family too.

Oh... Oh no. Annie cannot push Kat aside now! And she didn't even finish her dinner...
I suppose Kat shouldn't have lost it with Anthony, but I can't blame her for it either. It's hard to see someone hurting your friend like that and Kat's only 15 at the most. How would she really know to deal with a situation like this? I hope Donald doesn't let this slide. There's still time!

ok. so Mr Carver fulfills everyone's predictions and scurries off as soon as the going gets tough, like the rat that he is [apologies to rat fanciers]. Not only that, but he has his child Annie conditioned to such an extend that she rises to follow him even if it means abandoning a safe place. At this point I am disputing the creator's word that there are no truly evil characters in the comic. There are no excuses for Mr Carver. He is a manipulative, abusive SOB. "Oh all he does is powered by love. Maybe he is trying to save his daughter. He is socially inept." I am not buying this. Mr Carver's relationship with Annie is beyond disfunctional, it's plainly disturbing. I am glad Rey is in Kat's hands because now things are seriously going to hit the proverbial fan. No more secret Kat and Annie meetings. Annie withdrawing completely. At this point I am at a loss how this is going to be resolved. If Eglamore or Zimmy smash the batard's face in Annie will just attack them to protect him (her conditioning at work). She needs someone to help her break the masks. In RL this takes years of therapy...
Rat! Rat! Rat!

The level of conditioning here is severe. This is heartbreaking.

I don't think she is conditioned, I think she is just a little naive. She wants her dad back and everyone to be happy ever after.

Kat saying "You can't use her like this.", while holding Annie down...
What was being said earlier about people talking over Annie about this, rather than to her? I think that's just about to come to a head. No, I don't blame Kat for falling into that trap, either. It's a subtle one that could just as easily catch an adult (like me!) not used to dealing with abusive relationships.

Well, Anthony did do one thing: He made it clear that he is not apologising in any way for his absence.
*sigh* In other news, folks, I am probably going to be off from the forum here, maybe from reading the online comic for a while. I had so been looking forward to Traveller, but when I saw it had come out I had this feeling of, "Blech, I can't take any more of this," even though I am pretty sure that the mini-comic is not related to the nastiness going on in the main story, much less the people who rationalise and defend it here. So, better to potentially get back to enjoying the comic again. Anyhoo, be well all, and maybe see you around again!

In case it wasn't already clear, this part of Annie's story arc is going to take a long time to resolve. And by that I mean multiple chapters and maybe next year (both Year 11 and 2016). A break would be nice. A chapter about city faeries? A couple weeks of special/guest pages? A one page GIF of dancing llamas? INTERGOAT 2.0?

I'd love nothing more than Mr Carver and Annie opening the Donlan's front door and seeing a massive crowd of students, robots and certain Court figures just sitting there. Just to let Annie know that they're rooting for her.
And letting Carver know that if he continues to treat Annie as he does, he's going to end up as such fine paste that they'll never find a trace of him ever again.

It's so disappointing. We had our hopes up that there'll be some explanation, and yet again there's none. We only got that vague hint that they've got "work" they can't talk about openly in front of their children. I'm still holding out hope that the evening won't end this abruptly, that something will force the situation so that there is a bit more revelation, or resolution.
I only hope that this is a slow build-up to something major that'll change the current status quo.
People aren't taking Annie's wishes in account. She wants her father back in her life, more than she wants her accomplishments and friends. Perhaps in time she'll make Tony see that they are accomplishments and that those are friends. But I don't want to wait that long! It really feels like there'll have to be some big shakeup for this situation to resolve. Maybe Coyote? Ysengrin? Some kind of intervention from the Forest - I don't see Annie taking kindly to it. Other options are Eglamore, Jones and Zimmy.
