So we have a case of possibly good intention for wanting Renard away from Annie.
On the other hand, he only shows up now as opposed to early on when his actions might have been wiser.

The fact that Donald just goes 'ahem' to what Anthony says about their work....HM. What's that about, boys? Also yes, Kat does have a very good point. And I'm not so sure I believe that Anthony took Renard away for the sake of Annie's safety.

You know, Kat? When you say it loud: "Rey saved us from dimension twisting robots who were trying to turn the cruise ship into a lobster loving whale." sounds a little unconvincing.
(Sounds like Eglamore might need to be called as a character witness.)
Hmm! Our work? What do *you* know, Mr. Donlan?

I wouldn't put it past him having read reports about early incidents involving Renard, including that botched possession attempt of Annie and possession of Surma's coworker (whom Renard got accidentally killed with it), and basing his assumptions on that.

If nothing else, I can kind of appreciate his last line, it kinda reads as though he's not ruling out the possibility of eventual trust. But just as likely it's more imposing fatherly concern to back him up.

... then again, mention of "dimension twisting robots" *might* bring Zimmy into the conversation.

Kat's getting really mad. I'm not sure whether it would be a good thing or a bad thing if she just goes completely ballistic.

And I'm not so sure I believe that Anthony took Renard away for the sake of Annie's safety. I'm kind of in agreement based on how he took his time to show up to order Annie to turn him over. But at the same time, I'm thinking that between wanting to have Renard and some of his other behavior, that it wouldn't be too surprising if in a misguided way that he has Annie's well being in mind (at least physically as we see how she's been emotionally). I mean it's pretty clear we're suppose to dislike Tony and I certainly find him more unlikable as we get updates, but if his actions are simply because of selfishness/resentment/being evil, then why has Tom waited this long to reveal his motivation. Doesn't make much sense to keep his motives a mystery if he is indeed evil and we are supposed to dislike, even hate him, whereas revealing that he has some selfless reasons would possibly compromise the building of tension.

Still nothing but evasion. At all. And the way it goes, neither Kat nor Donald will get past the smoke and mirrors. That's just corny.

Our work? Is Anthony referring to the fact that both his and Donald's jobs require a certain amount of secrecy? Or is it about something he and Donald have been working on together? And does that mean that Donald will end up going along with the way he is treating Annie? I am glad that he brought up Renard, though.
Pretty lame- and arrogant- excuse from Anthony. If he was so concerned about Renard being a danger, then why didn't he show up earlier? Especially since Renard was actually sharing a room with Annie for two out of three years, and afterwards lived pretty much next door to her. Kat is asking the right questions. But as satisfying as it is to see someone chewing Anthony out, I'm afraid it might make Anthony disregard anything she has to say completely because he might disdain her emotions. Speaking of emotions, Anthony is actually displaying some expressions on his face!

My impression was that Anthony was trying to deflect the question. it wasn't done terribly subtly if so.

I appreciate you want to defend your friend, but holy crap, dial it back a bit, won't you Kat? Her Dad just COMPLETELY chickened out and let Anthony off the hook on the "where were you?" question - even if he feels he can't discuss it in front of the kids, he needed to say something like "we'll talk about it later" and not look like Anthony has him completely cowed. Understandably Kat has gone from feeling like she's finally going to be vindicated to feeling she's going to have to do this herself.

This is probably the first time in the comic where I've really really wanted to see Eglamore (I also really want to see Jones show up, but that's hardly unusual).

eh... nice to see Anthony getting a talking to but hardly any new info. and the bit about whether Donald would trust his own daughter with Rey... meh cheap theatrics. I am not eloquent enough today. So imagine I wrote a wonderful analysis, ok?
tl;dr nothing substantial to see here. move along.

I see Anthony's next line going 1 of 2 ways.
1) He reveals that despite his absence he has been monitoring Annie remotely the entire time. Though this makes his actions seem even more circumspect because in addition to being creepy, it raises question as to why he chose this moment to act. It makes it seem like there's an ulterior motive. And if he has been monitoring her, he should know the positive effects the forest and Renard had on her.
My evidence, besides his general desire to have complete control over everything, is that phone call. HE called Jones and introduced the message with Antimony's name. Donny's hypothesis this was done intentionally, signaling some desire to speak with Annie. But....How'd he know she was with Jones? There is the other possibilty that the message was never meant for her, but if it was....
2)He's going to reveal he HAS been in the Court the entire time, simply in a part of it further removed from the students. This would be the worse option to me. f he was in the Court the entire time, capable of seeing Annie whenever he wanted and simply didn't? Why it might even be the straw that breaks the camels back for the cast.
In fact I can see him saying either of the two in that indignant absolutist kind of way as if he is legitimately shocked that anyone thought he WOULDN'T be keeping tabs on Annie. And of course being completely oblivious as to why either of those might anger/disturb other people.

I don't think Kat getting angry is going to help matters much, and I don't think this is going to be as popcorny as people seem to think it will.
I agree with some peoples idea that Tony has been monitoring Annie for some time. the chapter title Sneak could be referring to Tony as well as Kat's actions.
Plus if we are going to see them try and convince Tony that Renard is safe, Kat's instructions to renard to 'do whatever it takes to defend yourself' is a Chekov's gun just waiting to be fired at some point and convince everyone that Renard is dangerous...

Understandably Kat has gone from feeling like she's finally going to be vindicated to feeling she's going to have to do this herself. Yup. Hopefully, Donald's to do list at this moment is something like: 1) Hold up a hand to stop Anthony from responding to Kat, if he intended to[*]; 2) Turn and say gently to Kat, "Please let me handle this;" 3) Turn and say to Anthony, "She's completely right, of course. You were gone. We were here. You did not talk with us about any of this. You are wrong in the way you are treating Antimony and her friends, both emotionally and physically, and you need to stop." [My guess is Anthony will just ignore Kat and keep focusing on Donald. In fact, in normal circumstances that is usually the appropriate thing for an adult to do when a child tries to angrily insert him/herself into the middle of an adult argument/discussion about a point. In this case, of course, it being Anthony we're talking about I suspect it's what he will do regardless of whether it is right/appropriate or not. After all, he barely even spoke to Anja and only after standing and staring at her for several seconds.] On the other hand, if Donald indeed wasn't going there - which he probably was, but just sayin' - then Kat should by all means carry on. At some point, someone who is not compromised by subservience to The Court needs to openly call a spade a spade here.

How'd he know she was with Jones? They track students by the food they eat. Compared to that it's easy to locate Jones' cell phone and match their locations. I've always supposed that the court's office simply looked them up and transferred the call.

Tom has stated in the past that no one in the comic is meant to be explicitly good or evil. It'd be more fair to say that Anthony's way of thinking is a bit twisted, possibly as a result of not being able to connect with people properly. Though I agree the intent is to make us hate him. Probably as a setup for something he plans on doing with his character later.

And does that mean that Donald will end up going along with the way he is treating Annie? I am glad that he brought up Renard, though. And I feel that Donald gave up way too quickly. Parts of Donald's work is apparently secret, too, but he's a family man, he stays with them and is a good father to Kat. It's not the disappearance of Anthony that is inexcusable, it's how he treated Annie while doing it. He didn't tell her (or anybody else) he would go away, he didn't put her in contact with anybody she could go to if she needed help, and he didn't contact her even though he could have (and when he did, he just used her as a recording device instead of talking with her for a second and then telling the code to Jones or something). He left her wondering if it was her fault. I think Anthony has something on Donald, some questionable thing he did while working with Anthony. Yeah, and if he did assume that Rey is dangerous, talking with Antimony or Kat or the Donlans or Jones would have helped the assessment of the situation enormously, but in his mind, nothing is more important than his opinion, his feelings (yes feelings. He's disappointed, that's an emotion, right?), his way of doing things. That part of his personality, his incredibly self-centred way of seeing things messes up every action he takes, even if it's in good faith.
