It looks like the dinner will be a powder keg. I wonder if it will explode.

I wonder how Anja will react to this. Annie is her best friend's daughter too. She probably knows quite a bit about how Surma would've responded to this situation.

Man, the difference between the way Donald and Anthony are drawn... I don't know if that just represents Tom's art evolution over all this time, or if it's to show that Donald has in fact aged much better than Anthony. I mean, Anthony's not looking so good... his face is all wrinkles and scars.

I'm so glad Donny's not giving Tony a warm welcome, shows loyalty to Annie and Surma. In fact, I hope Donny knows how to get through to him, maybe by envoking Surma, to breaks Tony down. Or maybe they'll offer to take guardianship of Annie (after all, isn't Renard who he really came for?) so he can attend to other matters.
I cannot wait for next week, it's going to be uncomfortable in the most delicious way. I also secretly hope that we get a peek of what Annie looks like in the ether, come on Anya.

I'm pleased about Annie's look in panel 2. She is still wondering... even if she won't say it out loud.

No handshake? Thats not very mate-like, Donny. Kidding aside, this is interesting. A lot of us figured conflict would be inevitable, but I didn't think Donald would give such a cold greeting right from the start.

Donald seems angry. In Microsat 5 he was really excited to hear of Tony and anxious to help him.

And I don't know if Donald's greeting is in fact cold, or if they have a very formal way of communication when they're in public. Tony acts very much like this, and I don't know if it rubbed off on Donald.

Yeah, given how much he's defended him or tried to explain him in the past, it's a little (pleasantly) surprising. And if this is how Donny reacts to him, I wonder how Anja will, seeing as how she's seemed to have less faith in Tony than her husband. I like the girls' cute little 'hi' at the end.

Tony clearly wouldn't be comfortable with an effusive greeting.

Hm... Donny-Dons doesn't look very happy. Or will he break into a smile in the next page? Either way, dinner is going to be an awkward affair.

Cute waves to break the ice.
One *very* small artistic niggle. These two young women are 15-16yo. They should be more or less fully grown, yet are only half the height of their fathers. It does work to establish parental authority.

Speaking of details, we have all weekend to find the origin of the logo on Kat's tee shirts. The "C" within a "C", or the "C" within a broken circle.

It does work to establish parental authority. To be fair, we don't know how tall either they or their fathers are. Hm...I just realized Mr. Donlan called Anthony 'Tony' and Mr. Carver called Donny 'Donald'. Just an interesting little bit of character detail there.

Donny does seem cold. But he still used "Tony" and not "Anthony". Not sure it's as cold as we want it to be. But maybe. We'll see.
Regarding the lines/scars on Tony's face vs. Donny's relatively smooth skin, I and several others have pointed out that Tony's face is too weathered for his age. Kind of like the Headmaster's. It must be caused by something else. My guess is that messing with the ether is doing it.

I think it's less about relative heights, and more about their placement and the "camera angle" if you will. Annie could very well be on the step below Tony, and we don't know how far back Kat is from Donny (it's hard to tell). I think it's just a matter of perspective. I also read a lot less into their greeting. To me, it seems like Donny is trying to let Tony set the pace here, with the hope of being conciliatory as much as possible. Donny always has seemed to play the role of diplomat in their group of friends, trying to smooth over the rough edges. That's not to say he let himself walked over, but rather is always trying to find the prospective of others first.

On the other hand he might be very irritated that Tony didn't tell him about starting to teach again. And after spending time with Annie in Microsat 5 I doubt he likes the way Tony has treated her since returning.

So... ... (clears throat) This FIFA stuff! Am I right?... ...
I think it's too early, to really tell how Donny's playing this. He could be merely going through their usual greeting, or he could be really angry. What Anthony should really fear is the wrath of Anja. Yikes!

Annie should look the same in the ether as she always has, considering that every time she's appeared in the ether after Jeanne cut her cheek by the Annan Waters, the cut has appeared on her face. Also, Renard looks like a fox when he appears in the ether, which was explained by someone in the comic or by Tom, as that since a fox is Renard's original form, that is what he appears as. Though the rules may be different for changes such as haircuts, especially since that change was not caused by an etheric being, unlike the case with Jeanne using her sword on Annie. So I think that her etheric appearance will stay the same, but it might not. Nonetheless, I am curious to see whether her appearance in the ether will change or not.
