Is this going to be her look in the ether now?
And this is so sad. I wonder if we'll ever find out whether Annie's haircut was by choice or not.

Well that isn't creepy at all.
What surface is she lying on? I find it odd that most of the cracks radiate out from Annie.

Well there's a double meaning. A moat of nothing separating kid!Annie from power!Annie to parallel our fire-head girl's banishment.

... what does this imply? Annie is cut off from her etheric connections? I sure hope not. Great idea/ art work but it's making me angry again. Being cut off and isolated is pissing me off. grrrrrr!

It's weird, Annie almost seems in between regular and Ether-vision I guess the biggest indicator of her literal/symbolic detachment from the ether is the lack Of her cut.

That's friggin' gorgeous work right there. Tom needs to turn this into a wallpaper, definitely.
...Also, if you cover up the hair directly spreading out from her head, her bangs show the signs of a potential punk rock Annie. Just throw in an eyebrow piercing and she's good to go!

That is one nice drawing! Unfortunately her face looks nothing like her, but it's still a great drawing

Yep, definitely looks like a barrier. Notice how the color is reminiscent both of the bone lasers and whatever's coming for Annie's head on this page. (If they're not the same thing.) What's heartening is that said barrier looking halo thing appears to have cracks in it, so there's still hope of some kind, I think. Maybe it's just me, but do the clothes and pose make anybody else think of a girl on an operating table?

How much did Target pay Tom to make this strip?

How much did Target pay Tom to make this strip? I actually 'shopped up a pic turning the page into a Target ad, but chickened out at the last second.

Tom knows a little something about symbolism. And promotional considerations.

If I am not horribly mistaken, Annie and the forest have been associated with the sun in all treatises, and the sun has regularly been symbolised as a circle with a dot. (kat & court were the moon)

Wow. Oh Annie, baby. And damn. Tom. This is really something extraordinary. The ability to make symbolic pictures like this that carry so much story is really what comics and sequential art is all about. I can think offhand of a few panels or pages in graphic novels that have had the leadup and emotional impact and power of this image but it's not very many. The last page of Fun Home, a few pages from Blankets, Joann Sfar's stuff, David B, Phoebe Gloeckner? Congrats, Tom, you've hit the master level.

This paired with the previous drawings (and wallpaper) of Annie and her etheric hair are amazing. Certainly sums up the outcome of the chapter in a single image.
Also is this one of the first times the bonus pages has been serious, rather than more jokey/giving background information?

So is this what she'll look like in the ether now? Can't imagine that she'll forever be lugging around all that hair connected to nothing.

Amazing and painful. Like the whole chapter. This paired with the previous drawings (and wallpaper) of Annie and her etheric hair are amazing. Certainly sums up the outcome of the chapter in a single image. Also is this one of the first times the bonus pages has been serious, rather than more jokey/giving background information? Second time I guess. NOT Mort Fun Time (Bonus Page 47: Pro Patria Mori)

This was a beautiful and a sad page. So much was said with so little.
And I don't think we'll actually find out how she looks in the ether with short hair, with that haircut she will not be going to the ether.

And I don't think we'll actually find out how she looks in the ether with short hair, with that haircut she will not be going to the ether. I've been thinking that for a little while now m'self, since the Great Chop, too. That is one nice drawing! Maybe it's just me, but do the clothes and pose make anybody else think of a girl on an operating table? Yes. Or a martyr's pose. I like this depiction of Annie in the ether: her hair (representing freedom and emotion and the 'Forest' side of Annie) has been separated from her, but is still there to be reconnected at some future point. I do wonder, though, if the cutting of her hair actually changed her powers in the ether, or just her appearance. Personally, I don't think it matters if she 'chose' her haircut. Most reasonable scenarios involve her being coerced, manipulated, or forced to do so - all abhorrent.

It's nice and all but I don't think that's how it would look with her hair as it is now. It looks like the right part of her head is completely shaven.

Annie really is "cut off" from everything and everyone she knows and loves.
