In the Aether, it seems that anything bereft of a soul appears grey: clothes, rocks, the jackalope's former body in the current chapter (though the body is still living, it lacks a soul). Looking back, in "Red gets a Name", the teacher has clothes that glow in the Aether, and bear the same runes as Ysengrim/Coyote/the jackalope's bodies do in the Aether. Apparently her clothes are "alive/ensouled." The students, and Antimony, all have grey clothes in the Aether. So... what is up with her? Is she a shapeshifter who can "grow" clothes at will? Do you think she'll be a recurring character?

I think that's because she "made her own clothes". Fairies come of age when they can make their own clothes. Making her own clothes was one of the things that came to Red's mind after she got a name. I am sure the green fairy's clothes from "Tall Tales" would have appeared alive in the ether as well, cause they look pretty colourful compared to the brown pieces the young and nameless fairies wear. How the process of making fairy-clothes is different from making normal clothes, we don't know yet!

Perhaps the clothes are extensions of themselves, thus making them just as alive as they are?

If you impart some of your essence into the clothing you make, and no one is capable of perceiving it, are your cloths alive?

That is a very interesting observation. I had to go back and re-read that portion of the chapter and her clothing is clearly special in every panel she is depicted. I don't know what to make of it however, but curious nonetheless.

I wonder if the boots Annie made for Kat would also glow in the ether.
