I have a few young friends at my Saturday school who have seen me reading Gunnerkrigg Court and absolutely love it, from a visual standpoint. Unfortunately, it's very hard for them to understand it, since they are Japanese. I took it upon myself to translate chapters 1 and 2 for them, with hopes that when they get older they'll be able to read it in its original English. I thought I'd share a few pages I've completed so far: img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/asuka_chan/gc_nihon/00000004.jpgimg.photobucket.com/albums/v321/asuka_chan/gc_nihon/00000011.jpgI claim absolutely no credit, this is strictly Tom's work and words. I've merely translated them for non-commercial use. (On the bright side, perhaps Tokyopop will notice the comic now! )

How'd you translate the names? *is curious* Hey you! I remember you from LJ. I'm asuka_chan. :3 Foreign words in Japanese are largely unchanged, just adapted for their phoenetic system ('ba' in place of 'va', for example). I translated the names as such: Antimony Carver is antemoni kaabah (アンテモニ・カーバー). Kat is kyatto (キャット). Shadow 2 is shadoh tsu (シャドー2). Robot is robotto (ロボット). William is uiriamu (ウィリアム). Mrs. Donlan is donran sensei (ドンラン先生).

LAUGHING ON LINE, I would love to do that, just don´t have the art skills to actually do it. BUT if anyone is taking the trouble to do the art, I'll be willing to do the translation to spanish (...with the exception of Paz...she translated herself to spanish )

Mrs. Donlan is donran sensei (ドンラン先生). Why not Antimoni and Wiriamu? For Antimony, I tried to stick with the British pronunciation, and 'te' worked better than 'ti' (which is not a 'natural' sound and is pronounced with a very harsh 'ee' sound). There's no 'w' in Japanese, so they make up for it by combining u with another vowel. In this case it produces a sound identical to the French oui. I feel like I'm writing a novel, haha! Translating everyone's names can't be this hard in Latin-based languages!

Actually I just finished re-reading chapter 1-2 and the translation looks easy enough, and without the need to translate names, even more so. I think Tom is in the way to offer a webcomic in multiple languages...fan-based. LAUGHING ON LINE

It looks like you just rotated and sized the characters. If you want to make it look natural, you'll have to use a perspective tool. I can find it in Photoshop, don't know about other graphical problems. Note, a tool that can take a rectangle and reshape into any quadrangle isn't a perspective tool. It's close, but not quite right.

Thank you!

I don't know what kind of a precedent (if any) there was for this, but I love that the robot speaks in katakana. In fact, I loved it so much that I created this account just to say that. Perhaps I'm just easily amused because it's early and I'm tired and I don't feel like going to work...
Nevertheless, good job with it.

Come on guys, let's not have the thread go off-topic. That said, this is totally a noble cause, I'd love to see GC in French or something. I like how Robot has this official looking font for his voice
