I can speculate wildly about a piece of wood, just give me ten minutes to compile my notes and prepare a slideshow.

I'm calling forest chapter, with heavy Coyote involvement. Totem pole: Native American. Coyote: Native American. Muut may make an appearance, but I think Coyote is more likely.

It's a nice piece of wood. I'm thinking this chapter is either forest, or Red putting the Foley sorting hat on Jack O'Lope.

According to Wikipedia totems are symbols of groups or families, I wonder if that means we are going to learn more about Coyote's and Raynard's family connection.

Strong guess for Jack the rabbit (or Green's reaction) to be taking the test - the shape cut out in the wood is the exact same shape as the chapter image from Tall Tales (and of course the wood and totem reference seem related to the Forest).
Hoping for lots of Coyote too.
We haven't had a Coyote-centric chapter in *forever*.

*Nicely drawn* piece of wood. I had to look twice and I'm still not sure it's not a photograph.

The shape of the lines also vaguely looks like how Ysengrin is represented in treatise(s?) past.

With these 2 posts, I thus feel quite strongly that this chapter will involve Ysengrin among its primary subject. After all, totems are also normally made of wood.

First thought: I'd guess Coyote or Ysengrin too. The pattern on the wood looks kinda techy, like a sci-fi door or even vaguely like a circuit board... E: Damnit I just noticed I still have my christmas avatar and I dont have my normal one at hand to change it...

The little picture for this chapter, found when viewing the archive, appears to be some sort of floor of some kind with a cloud (or possible some squishy muscle or a worm-like creature ). The floor appears to be quite smooth. Just throwing that out.

Same thoughts here : the shape carved in the wood-like thing looks a lot like : 1) Green's t-shirt 2) Ysengrin's stylised face in the treatises 3) geometrical lines on forest robes (Ys' and Annie)
I can't wait to see what happens next !

Coyote has, at least, *appeared* in some of the last few chapters. All we've had of Jones recently is a cameo in 'Tall Tales'

Wondering if anyone else has noticed the fact that the light is brighter and has a red hue to it towards the bottom, whereas the lighing at the top is darker and more grey

Since everyone else is going with a forest themed chapter, I will go with the long shot and guess the chapter will be about robots. Robots made of wood! Don't let them over clock themselves. EDIT: The red hue at the bottom of the image is from the fire. Someone didn't follow the advice in the link.

I knew that list I made was good for something: Until now never two robot chapters in a row: But knowing Tom you're probably right; he hates being predictable.

I would love to see something more on the non-scientific going ons at the court. Like they mind a totem just in the court, and then they go on an advendture to discover its origins and meanings.
Also im still a bit salty we didnt get an Annie and Kat summer adventure story. You better write that sidestory Tom! The bird thing was pretty cool though.

You know, I thought the shape on the wood looked familiar, and I couldn't place why until you guys brought up all the forest references. "Totem" seems like a title that would fit a forest story, but I'm not willing to commit to any speculation until Wednesday.

I'd like to say, that it will be less about Coyote and Ysengrin, and more about the Forest's opinions on them. Tall Tales wasn't that long ago though, so who can say if Tom will do a similar chapter. I hope so. It's nice to see things differently, than the default audience view.

Gonna throw in a guess, there's two possible options:
1) probably forest stuff. Too easy and others have already gone about it.
2) robot stuff again. Methinks that, if I recall correctly, totems are spiritual things that are revered by a group of people; so if there are totems involved, I'm not sure that forest people would have them, since they're by-products of the thoughts of man, which a totem embodies (or they probably carve some out, simple enough). We've seen the robots develop interesting ideologies and sort of "group" together, as well as create symbols that they can etch out, but they've never made something more than just a symbol on the wall. Maybe they'll make a religious piece in this chapter?
