I was wondering why no one had started a thread yet. I was about to stop waiting and do it myself Anyhow, interesting how Zimmy seemed like she was about to thank Jack, but he didn't want to hear it. Then he admits he still loves her? Odd. Love makes you act in strange ways, indeed.

Woah, Zimmy's cleared-up eyes are... freaking me out.

Going to go out on a limb and say that even though Jack still has feelings for her, he knows better than to try and pursue that. It'd be awful hard for him to get over it if they start getting all chummy so going for distance is just less pain.
Or maybe I'm reading too much into it. Who knows!

I think that he was about to thank Jack, and Jack brushed it off because he knew that she didn't feel comfortable thanking him - possibly acknowledging the thanks before the fact.

I sincerely hope it is "Yeah I still love her but I'd better not" and not "My whale-cruise-kidnapping into hard-to-get strategy will surely work!"
Somehow I feel he knows better though. Just based on his initial reaction to Zimmy even being there, he seems to fully understand she's not a viable option even if spider-filled hair and pointed teeth are his secret fetishes. Hey, I don't judge.

Aww. Our ol' good crazy Jack. Anyhow, interesting how Zimmy seemed like she was about to thank Jack, but he didn't want to hear it. Then he admits he still loves her? Odd. Why odd? He doesn't want to hear this exactly because it moves him. And he's still scared out of his mind just from seeing Zimmy. even though Jack still has feelings for her, he knows better than to try and pursue that. It'd be awful hard for him to get over it And/or that, too.

I'm more worried about Jenny running over to spill the beans on Jack.

I sincerely hope it is "Yeah I still love her but I'd better not" and not "My whale-cruise-kidnapping into hard-to-get strategy will surely work!" Still, his current "I won't tell the girl I secretly love. I will tell the girl that shot me down instead." tactics, seems a bit counter-intuitive.

I wondered if there was a backup AI, but probably not. For the record; this is the first robot CPU we see since we saw S13's. Seems to be exactly the same except for the Prophesy Coprocessor®. A cpu socket that doesn't change in centuries hmm. (...looking at small mountain of useless motherboards..)

I'm more worried about Jenny running over to spill the beans on Jack. Certainly looks that way, doesn't it? I'm not worried though. Jenny has been nothing short of awesome so far - in every single aspect of the word - I trust her to handle this situation tactfully, too.

What Changeling said.
Huh. I totally expected Reynardine to be in this update, after nobody else was there to high-five with Antimony...

It's going to be hard for the robots to paperclip a cruise ship, especially with all that charred corpse on the decks. Maybe they'll paperclip the wifi terminals as a substitute.

I guess he doesn't like the fact the facts that he still loves her. Jack said it was because of the spiders so maybe he decided it wasn't real love so he tries to move on but it's not working.

I'm more worried about Jenny running over to spill the beans on Jack. Well Annie kinda sorta did that already waaay back in Divine.

Removing the CPU broke the sim. It could be! I like that theory, though it doesn't *quite* line up time-wise unless there was a slight delay due to residual power or somesuch. Great thinking though; definitely a possibility! I'm now totally distracted by this wardrobe malfunction and cannot wait until Wednesday to see if it means anything, and if so what?

This is a good point. He's forever altered but can tell what is really him vs what is residual influence from the spider. Fighting against instinct, or what feels natural, is hard, but it's a definingly human ability.

Love makes you act in strange ways, indeed. I swear, that's quickly becoming the main theme of Gunnerkrigg Court. But I also think Jack knows that Zimmy's uncomfortable with saying "thank you". "Yeah, whatever" may be the right response.

Waiting to see the bombshell Jenny drops next panel (end chapter, or are we going for 90 pages? Personally, I think that this chapter is about to wrap, with a short end of year coda to complete Volume 5)

What the hell is Jenny saying to Zimmy? In the last panel Zimmy is offering to shake Jenny's hand! What bizzarro universe is this?

Trying to get my third cookie in this chapter: In the next page Jack and Annie are still talking, Zimmy and Jenny are in background and they have switched their shirts back. Wait, so whatever shirt Zimmy wears will have that circle appear? I want to see if it stays when Jenny switches it back. it's an old thing for sure, can be seen on the pre-gkc sketches of her shown in Chapter 5 retrospective. I wondered if there was a backup AI, but probably not. For the record; this is the first robot CPU we see since we saw S13's. Seems to be exactly the same except for the Prophesy Coprocessor®. A cpu socket that doesn't change in centuries hmm. (...looking at small mountain of useless motherboards..) That just proves that DIP is the pinnacle of integrated circuit packaging and everything after that is just your typical vendor lock-in and connector conspiracy. Seriously speaking though, +5 insightful for spotting that co-processor thing! I do have a weird feeling though that this would be a second aborted story element with foreshadowing turned in red herring, like the the steps going into a painting thing in chapter two. Can anyone confirm or invalidate? I think it was Tom's formspring that gave effectively that answer when asked its significance (not that he used to be very honest all the time).

I don't see what is strange about Jack... he has Jenny as girlfriend and likely code of honour to not be a two timer. (He likely doesn't trust himself enough to be too close to Zimmy, he can't turn off his feelings for her)
Jack also has likely been honest with Jenny about entire situation, and Jenny seems ok with it.
