Dear Tom, I realise that you don't like writing in the forum often. But I've had a few burning questions that have had since first stumbling across Gunnerkrigg. 1) It's been mentioned that the court is very well hidden, yet it seems near impossible to keep such a huge sprawling metropolis out of the public eye. What sort of measures does it employ in order to keep itself hidden? 2) It's been mentioned that there is a council that runs the court, is the principal among them? 3) In the event that a person born into the court decides to leave, how would he/she go about getting the neccisary documents that would allow them to operate within the outside would (ie birth records etc) without drawing attention to the court? 4) What sort of citeria doesthe school use for deciding who gets placed into which school house? 5) In the event that a student is invited to come in from the outside world (such as Eglamore), how do they make sure that the said students family does not bring undue attention to the court. 6) What period was the court founded? 7) Judging by the fact that the court seemed to be founded in the distant past, how did Diego figure out how to create the court robots? Would the influence something from the ether have something to do with it (Like how the Whitelegs boosted Jack's intellegence)? EDIT - Sorry, the timer on the library internet I was using ran out before I could finish this. 8) What was the reason behind the quick exacerbation of gender equality within the court (at least to the point where Jeanne could train to be a soldier) so soon after it's founding? Was it due to the influences of the different cultures of those from the forest? The ideologies of some key member(s)? Necessity? Something else? Or a combination thereof? 9) If Coyote had make a choice between doing a malicious and a benevolent action (both of which being equal in advantages and entertainment value) which would he choose? 10) Do or will Zimmy and Gamma consider themselves a romantic couple? If so will that aspect of their relationship get 'screentime' in a similar manner to Parley & Smitty, and Kat & Paz? 11) Would entering the forest affect Zimmy's powers? If so, how? 12) You mentioned that a meeting between Smitty and Zimmy would not be pretty due to their respective abilities, what would happen exactly? 13) What would happen if Coyote and Zimmy were to meet? 14) Is the reason why Coyote is constantly insulting Ysengrin due to maliciousness, cheekiness or just him being silly? I realise that you are under no obligation to answer these, so either way many thanks for your time and all the best

I guess we'll learn a lot of these things by the course of the comic. Maybe it would be better to just wait for that.

Tom may visit the board from time to time, but he no longer directly answers any questions as he once did. However, do not lose heart! For there are resources abundant for you to enjoy! There is a Gunnerkrigg Wiki that many people have put a lot of time and effort into creating. Also, from back in the day when Tom would take questions directly on his Formspring account, one memeber named Chrysopax assembled a mighty fine index of many of Tom's answers and/or hints. It is likely that many of your questions will have at least some clues to answers there. It is also likely that many mysteries are as yet unrevealed.

Tom doesn't answer much on the forums as far as I am aware, he certainly stopped before I joined a couple of years ago. I think some of your questions have known answers, or best guesses though, and some just haven't been revealed yet. 1) Magic?! But the Court is in the UK somewhere, and is probably known to the government at least. It was mentioned that the Court helped out during WW2, so there must be some sort of government knowledge of it. 2) As yet unrevealed 3)As said, the court is based somewhere in the UK, so presumably they have the same documents that anyone else in the UK has. Many of the people we have met already were born outside the court and came to it later, so presumably still have all the normal documents. 4) Mentioned a little in the earlier chapters, but one house is all for the fairies and animals who have become human, one is for the people with "unusual" abilities, but not all have been explored in detail 5) Same as in 3). Presumably they are just told they are working at a remot boarding school, of which there are several in the UK. 6) Judging by the dress of those we saw at the founding, I would guess 18th-19th Century? 7) This is a work of fiction.

Heh, while this thread is here, I suppose I'll add my one burning question to Tom. I had emailed this to you, Tom Siddell, but you may have missed it:

Fair enough, from what I've heard the reason why he doesn't is understandable. At the very most the best I can hope for is that these get answered in future pages.

By the way. Whenever Tom makes livestreams, he usually does a parallel Q&A. So if you have a couple short questions for him, look for a future livestream (easiest by following his Twitter).

I believe Tom said on a recent live stream that the comments/questions he can see and verbally answer while he is drawing are the ones on Google+ Hangouts. But I also recall on one live stream he took a break from drawing and looked for YouTube comments/questions.

I have a feeling that most of this stuff is either pretty spoiler-y, may be addressed in the side stories he's eventually going to do, or just back-end scaffolding stuff that will never be revealed in the comic since it's irrelevant to the story or simply doesn't exist in Tom's mind. Or it's best left to reader's imagination because it's better storytelling that way.
Some have partial answers (and some have been posted above): 4 can be guessed at by seeing the kind of talents the students have, although I'm not sure it's hard-and-fast (one is fairies and animals who passed the test, one is magic and otherwise talented people, one is probably "normals," etc) and 6 can be guessed at from period dress of the founders shown. 8; the court has been shown to be a forward-thinking place that doesn't adhere to culture norms. I think Tom mentioned something about this once. 9; Coyote is chaos and mischief embodied. Hard to say if a decision like that would say anything about his character (chaotic good or chaotic evil) at the end of the day.

Watch Tom's twitter and be ready when he's about to livestream? I'll have to do that sometime...

But I also recall on one live stream he took a break from drawing and looked for YouTube comments/questions. Pray tell, how does one become part of that hangout? Watch Tom's twitter and be ready when he's about to livestream? I'll have to do that sometime... Tom had a link in a Tweet that took me to his Google+ page. I saved his Google+ page as plus.google.com/+TomSiddell/posts . If you go there now and open one of the live stream posts (not one of his YouTube posts), it plays in a different window. On the top of that window there is a button that looks like a tic-tac-toe grid or rubic cube. If you select it, two icons appear and one is for Q&A. If you select Q&A, the right side of the window lists the questions. If you select an answered question, then the playback jumps to the point where he answered the question (mo better than listening to the whole event just to here the answers). I assume during a live session it looks a little more like a chat window. EDIT: The stuff above works for the Vol 5 Cvoer Artwork lifestreams, but not the earliest live stream where Tom was drawing Patreon requests. The hardest part seems to be knowing that he is starting a live event (Twitter being the best way to know as pointed out by @xan ) and having the time to join while it is live. Someone asked and Tom said he enjoys doing the live streams, but he does get nervous before the event gets started. I wouldn't expect the live streams to be routine events.
