Hero Rey to the rescue!!
Also, epic battle time. This is a pleasing update all around. Though what's with Rey's new freaky eyes?

Rey speaks somewhat prematurely. Let us hope he does not dine upon his own words.

If Rey asserts his dominance as having jaws superior than any witch magic by biting that tag off Annie's arm, I might just fall in love with him. Sadly I doubt that'll happen, but I can dream. So, I'm just gonna go ahead and start working on some paper mache hearts to paste Rey's face onto. Rey's creepy psycho face. On the page though, love the little robot war. Mostly because it still manages to be silly despite the seriousness of the situation. Somehow... I'm a bit disappointed that these mutated bots don't seem to be very effective at... anything really. I get that these are just the steward models, but they even left the initial tagging to the Seraph units. They seem to be what cannon fodder considers cannon fodder to be. Speaking of the Seraph units, I have a feeling there's a good reason they haven't shown up yet. And oi, Robot! Let's keep it above the belt!

I suppose we replace Kung Fu with Robo, right? I suppose this is the reason why Annie chose Rey, in hopes that he could break the ward. Also, I think Rey's eyes were always like in that form I think, Daedalus. Maybe it's the accompanying smile?

Interesting that the robots' eyes here are still only orange, not red.

Interesting that the robots' eyes here are still only orange, not red. I thought the same thing! Does this mean they feel they have the situation under control? I'm a bit surprised to learn of their combat abilities. I love how peeved Annie looks, instead of worried. Also I love how convenient a friend Renard can be to have.

When Annie says "thanks to the Court", I wonder if she really does suspect (as some of the readers have) that some of the adults back at the Court were complicit in the business (if so, that would explain all the more why her call for help was only to Reynardine and the robot community), or if she just means that the Court was the most likely source of the paper talismans (in which case, the Seraphs could have stolen them). Probably the latter, unless she's feeling really distrustful towards the grown-ups.

The last frame is almost "Natsume's Book of Friends" crossover.

The robot army. Will STOP attacking. RIGHT. NOW. The crew bots are not attacking. They are not even trying to defend themselves against this molestation.

I wonder if the ship considers this thumb wrestling? Having to take care of a whole ship, either the ship has enough processing power to deal with this, or the Stewards have minor autonomous control. So either thumb wrestling, or a tactical combat game.

I expect the robots' eyes to turn red sometime later. The last time we saw red robot-eyes was when Robot was abducted by the seraphs. I expect the seraph-mutations to be more of a threat than these marionettes.
Oh, and this is the second time we see Rey destroy magic with a bite. Last time was the Hetty-shrimp.

So is Rey going to have to go around hole-punching everyone's tickets like a fare checker at a very twisted amusement park? LAUGHING ON LINE
"Um, excuse me miss -- how did you get in without a ticket?" "Well...the crew bots let me in for free because they didn't consider my ability threatening." "Oh, I see. Very well; enjoy your visit in Zimmingham. Don't feed the spiders!"

I think LordCoyote's joke is that they're all having a big brawl in the first couple of panels, ergo "kung fu fighting". Also, if I saw right, somehow now he has red pupils. A quality of Zimmingham?

Though what's with Rey's new freaky eyes? He always had "bright yellow bead" eyes in the wolf form. Redder pupils may be new, but maybe not - this time we see his eyes closer than before, too. So is Rey going to have to go around hole-punching everyone's tickets like a fare checker at a very twisted amusement park? Probably. Why not?

For some reason, this chapter makes me perceive Zimmy's powers with a much less of an "uncontrollable and utterly alien" outlook, and more like something that can be understood. Something with its own rules - perhaps unintuitive and deadly, but human (and robot) understandable rules nonetheless (which bodes well for Zimmy's own future, actually). Of course something horrible may yet happen and turn the dial back to "cover your head with your arms and whimper in a corner", who knows.

Thermonuclear weapons work by well-understood rules, but if someone is dropping one on your location you may as well cover your head with your arms and whimper in a corner. Oh, it occurs to me that "the robots must have access to this level of magic thanks to the court" does not necessarily mean the court is complicit in the current mess. It may mean that human researchers stored data about wards on a computer without even imagining that the robots would be able to access it and capable of using it. Or somewhere in between those two extremes.

The marionettes look less like they're held up by strings/webs now and more like their carapaces were melted and stretched upwards.

There is no conflict between those views. Thermonuclear weapons work by well-understood rules, but if someone is dropping one on your location you may as well cover your head with your arms and whimper in a corner. I was thinking more Great Old Ones, less A-bomb ;-) The alien-ness, or being unknowable, is key. Of course it does not work as well without overwhelming power being thrown in the mix. I think there are plenty of robots (like, whatsisname, Bobby?) that are used in court operations that would entail access to this kind of information (and I think robots mostly share what they know). But I doubt they would suspect the robots of capacity for independent action in utilizing it.

That seems the most likely explanation to me as well. Truth to tell, I doubt the Court really would go so far as to subject an entire year of students to the horrors of Zimmy's world simply to find out how it worked. I don't think its leaders are *that* cold and machiavellian, for one thing. Not to mention that, even if they were, they couldn't be certain, with the kind of method the Seraphs were using, that they could get the students out again - and they'd want to get them back out, if for no other reason than that there'd be no point of sending them to Zimmy's world to find out what it was like, if they couldn't retrieve and question them afterwards (which *does* sound a lot like Uncle Andrew in "The Magician's Nephew", come to think of it). Not to mention the PR nightmare of an entire year of students disappearing like that - and the ramifications of Annie's disappearance (how to explain to Coyote about the disappearance of the forest's medium - and the fear of Reynardine becoming free at any moment). Of course, that raises the question of how the Seraphs' preparations (which included swiping those paper talismans and siphons) escaped the attention of the Court administration, incuding the Donlans, Eglamore, and Jones. The most likely explanation is that everyone underestimated the robots, thanks to their "comical buffoon" nature - and could much of that have been a cunning scheme to trick the humans into underestimating them?
