Huh. I'll be damned... All the cookies to eightyfour ! Calling it now: The speaker isn't the sailorbot at all, it's the cruise ship itself! It wants to be a living organism because it is madly in love with Lindsey! You see the ship is one giant robot of it's own right. The sailorbots are not so much crew as more of a really elaborate user interface. that's why they don't appear to have eyes (the ship has sensors all over itself anyway) and are networked (they have no own AI and are operated directly by the ship's AI).

buh but Lindsey's married! She won't like this. Not at all. (I wonder if the ship realizes how small the males of Lindsey's species are? Would he woo her with a smaller, remotely controlled body?) I'll bet Lindsey never thought she'd have to use this!

Oh no! Look at panel 3. Paz has already been taken*.
Also, triple choc chips to whoever called this. It would scratch the theory that Bud is the Captain (unless the Ship has mutinied and put him in the brig)
*I know it's just the mid-range shot, but Paz does look remarkably like the sailor-bot in front of her.

Wow, that was some prediction eightyfour, I read that page and part of me thought it was a fan comic responding to your comment/ship!
EDIT: Although... What part are the Seraphs playing in all this? This must have been pre-planned for them to take that thing from Kat's workshop. It can't have just started when the ship robots met Kat.

:/ This... is wildly unexpected. I saw the ship ship in the last thread, but it just seemed far too silly... I guess the "Robot is serious, robots are silly" adage is still in effect, even when the Seraphs and Kat's biomechanical research are involved. You learn something new every day.
Now, the rest of the chapter could still go either way. Even though the ship being in love with Lindsey is funny and a bit ridiculous (doesn't it know she's married?), the lengths to which it has gone do seem quite extreme, and I don't know if Kat's going to be able to talk her way out of it! This could very well have lasting consequences for Kat in her unwanted role as the angel, as well as her still-unfinished research... And we can't forget that Zimmy, Gamma and Jack are around here somewhere.
(Seriously, though, talk about a swerve! Kudos to the people who predicted that the ship was the central intelligence for the sailor-bots, and double kudos for the Lindsey/Ship shipper.)
EDIT: Incidentally, what do you all think Kat will decide to do? I guess she needs to get Lindsey in on the conversation, but other than that, I don't know how she's going to handle it. Even if she did agree to make the ship flesh (for some reason), would she even have the resources?

This must have been pre-planned for them to take that thing from Kat's workshop. It can't have just started when the ship robots met Kat. Robot heresy? Some radical faction not willing to wait for their Angel to progress naturally and seek to..."Forcibly Inspire" the advancement of her research. The Seraphs may have been duped into taking such actions by the Ship, it somehow having managed to corrupt them to its own ends. In any case, I think Robot is going to lose his mind when he learns about this (if he didn't sneak onboard to keep an eye on Kat already) and is going to put some of that devoted fervor into kicking some cans.

Of course, this *is* just a case of Rule 113(h) writ large. We'll see if Lindsey's read the manual.

Obviously this request is impossible to accomplish while you're at sea, but good luck talking-down an enamoured cruise-liner. I never would've guessed the above statement would make sense in any context.this ship is bananas, b-a-n-a-n-a-s

I read that page and part of me thought it was a fan comic responding to your comment/ship! I thought for a moment Tom was playing a prank, then realised how much work this page was. I don't know, but I'm slightly less worried now. Helping out a lovesick A.I. is their kind of silliness. You guys can't imagine how much I'm laughing right now. Seriously, if I was smiling any wider the top half of my head was gonna fall off! You deserve it! (well not your head falling off of course) Of course, this *is* just a case of Rule 113(h) writ large. We'll see if Lindsey's read the manual. She probably wrote it.

Gill cleaning! So that's why one flesh limb would be the threshold for a robot's desire for flesh. It all falls into place. Now Kat needs to decide how many feelers and where to install to get the most hot action: port, starboard, bow, or underside. And if the "flesh" is hardwired or socketed. Bud may be in trouble, not sure he can compete in the size speed or endurance department with machine. Then again with their species they might have differing standards of fidelity... in other words, they might be just "ships" that pass in the night?

Oh, yeah; something I totally didn't catch but should've.
By convention and tradition in english, ships are referred to as female for the sake of pronouns, regardless of their name. However, this does not apply to all languages. This could be the biggest lesbian ship in history.
Then again, robots appear to have masculine programming by default, with very few exceptions (none I can immediately recall). Whether or not robots perceive gender at all or perhaps belong to a 'third gender' however is up for questioning.
