www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1376I think Annie knows what's the requirement is... EDIT: Upon further look, Smitty's face is either that of bewilderment or... he knows as well?

That second-to-last panel.. you'd think Smitty's never seen a fanged pink blob monster before or something.
Edit: ....or a rabbit. why do i never read the comment
-- Interesting touch how the lighting kinda mimics the vertical line across the face that Annie has in elemental form.

I started a thread, but gave it up upon realizing I was browsing on mobile and I don't know my html well enough to make the link... And the note about lighting is interesting indeed. I wonder if that'll be an artistic motif in the future...(though, by that logic, Smitty is half elemental too). Can there be a luck elemental?

(not... fluffy bunnies! ... and so soon after Mort!) The question is: has Ys briefed Annie on the standard despatch technique? (it may be something other than being squished under a rock, as Red thought)

Fourth post is a discussion thread starter... not bad, but you'll never top the guy who started the 'How do we feel about Kat being (possibly) gay' thread (a 30+ page drama soaked discussion) on his first post.

Edit: ....or a rabbit. why do i never read the comment Well, he's still never seen a real rabbit that close. As opposed to a real horned hare. (The horned hare, a relative of the American jackalope, jackalope, is documented in Europe at least as far back as 1551.)

Fourth post is a discussion thread starter... not bad, but you'll never top the guy who started the 'How do we feel about Kat being (possibly) gay' thread (a 30+ page drama soaked discussion) on his first post. Actually, I always wanted to make comic thread at least once, but often I was too late or not able to do internet stuff so early. Only today a set of coincidences had me browsing GC at 8:59am, thus allowing me to grab the new comic and make a thread

Luck isn't an element, like earth, fire, water, air, etc. There could be a luck creature of some sort, but not an elemental.

Can there be a luck elemental? order =/= luck Smitty creates order where there is none, what the right order is isn't going to be in his favor all the time. Is what I think.

I'm really wondering, if the Transfer By Death method, may stem from Ysengrin's attitude towards humans and the court. If Annie's position allows her to change it, she might. What would be a more practical purpose for it? Immigration control?
I don't know why, but I just imagined a achewater-infused Parley sweatily running up, picking up the rabbit, yelling "Let's get this human train started!", loudly snapping its neck, much to everyone's horror.

You'd think Annie would have remembered that names can be a sensitive subject for fairies.

It appears she does remember. She didn't ask the fairy to tell her its name; she merely asked if it has one.
I would imagine that, normally, a fairy who has a name would be rather proud of it and would want others to use it. So asking if the fairy has a name is a way of extending that honor where appropriate without appearing to degrade the nameless fairies.
(But then there's the question of why THIS fairy keeps its name a secret. Perhaps the name itself is embarrassing; perhaps having a name has social implications among fairies and this particular fairy doesn't want those implications applied to it. Perhaps... something else I haven't thought of.)

order =/= luck Smitty creates order where there is none, what the right order is isn't going to be in his favor all the time. Is what I think. Being lucky is all about getting your shit in good order, maximizing your chances. There's bound to be a correlation here. To compare, the unluckiest character bar none in this comic, Ysengrin, can't get his life sorted out. He's malnourished, short on breath, entangled in conflicting mindsets (honour against his lust for violence, profound admiration for individual strength against his devotion to Coyote, hatred for humans against friendship with Antimony...), and prone to snapping because the body he admires, maybe even depends on at this point, constricts the freedom of his own. The right order must be the way things are supposed to be. If not, nothing is.

Well, Magic has Time Elementals, and the Order of the Stick has Chlorine Elementals, so we can fudge it.

Nah, Smitty's an ancestor of Teela Brown from the Ring World universe. His family is already part of a Puppeteer breeding program.

(Perhaps the name itself is embarrassing; ) Maybe... maybe someone just called her NastyFace, or CrushedWings, Or RabbitLover... and that stuck.

They specifically use insults to avoid that sort of thing. But maybe it's on the other end. Maybe someone named her something embarrassingly cute.

Or maybe she's named Cthulu and doesn't want to be presumptuous.

Her name is Beetlejuice, and she doesn't want people saying it too often. Nah, Smitty's an ancestor of Teela Brown from the Ring World universe. His family is already part of a Puppeteer breeding program. Let's just hope there isn't any tree-of-life growing out in the forest.
