I've said it once and I'll say it again: MORT SAD TIME. But mostly, Kat sad time which just makes me extra sad. I miss the little guy already. ; m ;

In the midst of all these feels, what happened to the cut on Annie's cheek? Is this not the ether?

It's better to forget than to remember and cry.
So goodbye, Mort.
Also, I don't think she was quite IN the ether, so much as at the entrance.

Just hanging at the doorway. In light of today's comic, that makes sense. Good thinking.

Took me a while to realise that Annie was holding Mort's helmet.

When did any get that "im so grown up" vibe going on? Isnt she like 14 or something? She just seems so grown up and mature. Probably has to so with some motherly qualities she inherited from Surma.

She was "so grown up" from the start of the comic. I think Tom commented on one of the Good Hope flashbacks that it was before Annie forgot how to be a child.

I've said this before, but - the first noteworthy recurring character to be written out of the comic. A sign of a shift in mood?

In the midst of all these feels, what happened to the cut on Annie's cheek? Is this not the ether? I guess Mort never looked at Antimony in the ether assuming he knew he could. I'm not sure who would have told Mort about it. This is the end of Mort's story, with Mort passing into the ether and having the experience he expects, therefore no cut. When did any get that "im so grown up" vibe going on? Isnt she like 14 or something? She just seems so grown up and mature. Probably has to so with some motherly qualities she inherited from Surma. I think Mort thinks Antimony is more mature than she really is so she appeared more mature in the ether... And he probably views her with rose colored glasses in other aspects as well. Her boobs would've been bigger except that it would've spoiled the mood, possibly...

It would be nice, if the chapter's extra page, had Mort meeting up with his two friends and family. Though, I'm not really sure that matches up, with what's been said about the Ether.
And the world spins on, as if still in place. All the older, yet wiser none.

Mort's passed on. This ghost is no more! He has ceased to be. He's expired and gone to meet his maker. He's a stiff. Bereft of life, He rests in peace.

Borrowing lines from my favourite story ever, ElfQuest:
Farewell my dear one. You are better loved than you know, and you will be missed.

Coyote says: "For some there may be an afterlife, but in the end, everyone is brought back into the ether." ( p. 1073) So my guess is: some of "the other departments" Nosferatu mentioned deal with different afterlives, but going into the ether is final and you lose yourself completely. This whole thing must be pretty hard on Annie, even if she's not showing it. Look how similar the Annie in the last panel looks to the very first Annie: Both times we see her shortly after she had to escort a loved one into the ether. This is so sad... I love Tom's writing... ;__;

It feels to me like everything from the beginning of the story up until now has been Act I, and this is what brings Act I to a close. I don't know if that's really what Tom has in mind for the plot arc but that's what it seems like to me.

Peace, Mort. Took me a while to realise that Annie was holding Mort's helmet. me too! I think she was trying to keep something to remember him by, even though she probably knew it wouldn't work.

So he didn't lose any memories after all. Boy, am I embarrassed. I'm quite sorry I called Annie a murderer. But it is still sad Mort is going. Particularly since it means the end of Gunnerkrigg Court.

Do you mean the comic or the place as you see it represented?
