"And the world will continue to spin." (That boy will ensure it) Yet I have to wonder if the world would spin faster or slower with his absence from the ether for 60+ years...

I imagine it's the accumulation that's important, and one ghost here or there doesn't make a difference.

That's not at all how I read the scene, and I don't really wanna get into a debate about it, so I'm out.

Ankou wanted to get Mort and take him into the ether, but Jones stepped in. The vampire settled the dispute in Jones' favor. There's no debate POSSIBLE given the context and visual representation. So... Now it comes back to how crucial it is to get at every last spare soul, or sorting out who gets to chill at the RotD for a few years.

Maybe it's how they get paid or something. Though if that were true, it would make Ketrak obscenely rich, unless his quota is massive enough to count as equal wages with everybody else.

They just have an affinity for it, something that makes them need to do the job. No quotas, that sounds silly. Good lord that was a gorgeous page. Avatar-sized:

Maybe when the pages stop being about dead people. (but yes, good catch)

No comment from Tom? That's unusual. Tom often does not comment if the current comic is real serious stuff. At least, that's my benchmark for which comics he himself considers above his usual ribbing in the comments

No comment from Tom? That's unusual. It's not that unusual. You won't find Tom's silly comments on pages dealing with death in a serious manner: p343, p530, p1214Also, now I'm crying as well. T_T edit: dammit, ninja'd by foresterr.

I'm fairly certain that there will be another page about the actual transportation into the ether, so I'm going to reserve judgement except to say that Annie looks badass.

Alright, I'm just going to come right out and say what I've been thinking. Besides my souls crushing feels for Mort right now, I'm convinced Annie is wearing one hell of a mask. After all this is said and done I think she's going to break down hard (not psychologically of course, I mean grieving). She's losing a very good friend of hers and being a guide has never been something she's comfortable with, understanding, but not all that comfortable. Overall I just feel the way she's acting in front of Mort is deliberately for his sake and not very reflective of what she's actually feeling right now, at least not completely.
Of course I could just completely and utterly wrong about my characterization of Annie, which I have a creeping suspicion that I am.

Annie grew up (well, started growing up) in a hospital. Doctors and nurses have work to do at the hospital, and lives to live elsewhere, when work is done. The only people who had time for her, were the patients. Her mother was not the only one of them who died. (And those who didn't die, probably left eventually anyway.)
But of course, it has been years. Annie has made real friends, what she hadn't at Good Hope. And this is one of them.
So it's kind of a defining moment for her, story-wise as well.

Her face looks weird; it's too small compared to her head.
it seems to me like the mistake Tom made was placing her eyes in the middle of the head, that's only correct when looking horizontally at a head, but in this scene we're looking up, so her eyes should be higher. I hope Tom will fix this.
yeah, I dunno why, but I can't seem to care much about Mort's departure. :s

I'm still waiting for the memory loss, that Annie mentioned. Do spirits become drunk on the Ether, or is it more about them becoming diluted? Like a rain drop in a river, forgetting it was once a drop.
