On another note, should I make this a poll so we can decide who's under the mask?
Name your candidates now!
Anthony? Jones? Coyooooote?

Heh. But does that mean that Kat's perspective on the ROTD is right? Or at least righter? What with all the masks and apparent fakeness and stuff.

I like how Antimony shoos away the convenient plot reminder with her hand like it's a dusty cobweb.

I wonder if he's going to look like just an ordinary guy underneath...
Though I have to ask, what kind of difference could Mort have made in his joke position, Notesferatu? All the meaningful things he's actually done have been in spite of, not because of it...

Ankou looks willing to actually listen to notesferatu too. Is this whole conflict because they don't talk to each other?

My guess is that he's going to be mimicing someone's face... someone else that's dead that's relevant to the plot. Annie's mother, Court Founders, someone like that.
Either that or we're going to find out that Kat's version of the ROTD was the "real one," and everyone is wearing really good costumes in Annie/Mort's eyes.
So many possibilities! Weekend cliffhanger.

It's Eglamore, obviously.
But seriously, great to see Kat was right all along.

SUDDENLY
So the RotD thing is all a masquerade, but the masquerade itself takes a specific shape depending on the observer???

And his chance to confuse Annie after fairies, wisp, Coyote and dear friends of her late mom is dubious. She have heard nonsense compared with which that would be as sensible as a dictionary.

I guess it will be either someone unjustly dead, or someone who made a bunch of people unjustly dead ;-)

Don't we all wear a mask, for one reason or another?

First thought was the guy whose body Renard stole, but of course the timeline isn't right, WWII and all.

Most likely it could be just a random guy we never saw before and won't see again. Other possibilities that are more or less plausible I think would be - Dan R Schiff
- That guy Renard killed (had to look that one up)
- Jeanne's boyfriend
- I guess we would see his green neck then (and I think he is bound to the bottom of the river by the Device, but that's speculation)
- Mortimer himself
- that would be quite a mind screw
...I was bored and wanted to try lists.

Count: *removes mask* Annie: "... Who are you?" Count: "My name's Steve." Annie: "Huh... Are you sure?" Count: "Wha-" Annie: "Nevermind, nevermind. I was just expecting somebody... Steve? Really?"

Heh. But does that mean that Kat's perspective on the ROTD is right? Or at least righter? What with all the masks and apparent fakeness and stuff. Or it could just mean that they are able to change what face they show to different people based on what they want them to see, without there really being any "correct" face. Afterall, thinking about Mort- he's effectively a shapeshifter. Is the form that he chose (bed-sheet-ghost) more or less correct than the one he was born with? Either that or we're going to find out that Kat's version of the ROTD was the "real one," and everyone is wearing really good costumes in Annie/Mort's eyes. Sometimes it seems to me like an awful lot of posters WANT the "every is in a costume and it's fake" theory to be accurate, and I'm not sure why. In a world with things like Jones, Coyote, and Mort, is it really that hard to believe that you've got an organization of reality/perception warping creatures? Cause really, explain to me how anyone who is remotely human can fit into this "costume": Chapter End
Even if it is all based on illusion, and the RotD is mostly living humanoids, it still doesn't really seem "fake" to me, given how much heavy-duty magic they are apparently tossing about just for the sake of appearances.

Mort has clowned around with his shapeshifting ability, and used it to bug people, to the point of lampshading the nonexistence of a "correct" form. (Deposits three containers of silly-putty in the pun jar) Quite easily. The likely location for the pilot's and copilot's compartment would be in the head or chest. There could be a crewman in each upper arm and perhaps one or two in the lower body. Oh wait, that wouldn't be a costume, it would be a giant mech.
