Hey there, Notesferatu! You might want to take care of that missing piece of skull.

DAMN! This looks like it's the goofy Muppet-like vampire we saw in the previous chapter at the beginning of the chapter, in his "true" form. Wearing another white button-down and everything. Creepy-deepy!

Vampires apparently learn table manners from nine-month-olds.

It's a good thing I read the new pages in the morning. This is some serious nightmare fuel. That blood looks so fresh...
Hm, now I'm hungry, time for some breakfast! (Wish I had some blood oranges)

Still seems like a swell guy. Swell boss.

I kind of wish my boss looked like that. Any time I had trouble with a customer I'd just say "Let me go get my boss" and this guy would stagger out and I would never have a problem with that customer again.

Creepy-deepy! The detail and vividness on that vampire is just awesome! Tom, you son of an abstract concept of artistic skill and fluency!

I love Annie's gothic sensibilities. It fits her so well. She's pretty dramatic, but for the best and most legitimate reasons.

So, to Kat, the RoTD looks like cheap halloween decorations. To Annie, it looks dramatic and imposing. To Mort, it looks like understated but believable ghost cartoons.
I prefer the concept of "the RoTD's appearance varies wildly depending on who's looking", with none of them being the "true" way that it is. The only objective truth about the RoTD are those elements that are common between everyone's experience, everything else is just personalized flavor created by your own interpretation.
Kind of like the rest of the universe, but less subtle.

I thought it would be quite entertaining if Kat's POV was the true one, but I agree with you stephen. There may not be a right way. I even added quotes to "true" in my post.

I first thought I clicked the wrong link and got some horror comic. Looks a bit like Victor in the first Underworld while he was sleeping.

I had to come here, just so I could comment on how beautiful the art is in this one. That third panel is gorgeous.
I almost feel like we're going back to the feel of the original chapters, with the unexplained macabre.

I like how Nosferatu is just lying there as they are having a conversation. I guess he only gets up when he has to go out for work.

No matter where you work, there's always that one guy walking around with a little something on his face. Drives you crazy all day. All you can do is obviously and repeatedly wipe your face. Plus, the smell of rotting flesh. Mondays, am I right?

Check out panel one, the light colored patch in the background, with two darker fangs in it pointing upward (or alternately, they could be eye-holes in a skull.) Either way you look at it, it's a nice artistic touch. (Love Tom's attention to subtle details like this!)
But what I don't get is this: are the two dark bits shadows? If so, of what? That doesn't seem right; they look more like gothic doorways to me. But if that's the case, how's the light-colored area being illuminated? It's not being cast by those two candelabra; those are much closer and are serving to light up our friend here.

I really like how the difference in perspective between the characters manifests in the vampire. The difference between what Mort sees and the one that Antimony does seems to be influenced as much by their take on the supernatural at large as what level of vintage they prefer in their vampires. While the stylization of the comic makes it hard to tell if it's supposed to be them personally, I'd find it odd if their looks coinciding so well would be a mere coincidence. I'm starting to think that the appearance of this guy tells us a lot about how important he is in the RotD. He isn't a vampire, he's the vampire. No matter what flavor you prefer, he's the stuff. Both Lugosi's Dracula and Kurt Barlow (or maybe Count Orlock) are legendary staples of vampire lore in their own right, after all. I also think him calling Mortimer "Morty" is sweet. Until proven otherwise my interpretation is that he's been looking out for the kid since the whole business with the bomb. It's nice to see that someone like that cared, despite the bureaucracy and gory facades.

Duuude. Movie came out in 1931, WW2 "started" in 1939... so you're right, it makes sense that this is how Dracula was thought of in pop culture in Morty's lifetime. Thanks for the pics. Tom's so cool.
