Kat ain't buying itShe just ain't buying it. In other news: Ooh! Got to create a page thread after a long time! ...and in aftermath, even if I chose this title line after a thorough examination, I am unhappy with my choice. Don't know which one would have been better, though, this one didn't have much juicy punch lines in it. 'zims out

So skellereceptionist's head is flat..? Also he kinda reminds me of Red Edit: so does the Antimony symbol denote afterlife guide? Gillete symbol is for medium, and the crown appears to be for fire elemental..

Yeah, receptionskelly is flat! Like a skeleton people hang on the walls at Halloween again. Weird. To be fair I'm not sure what we expected given Mort's usual appearance, of a ghost which an extra sheet hanging over him. Ghosts don't seem to be the most imaginative bunch, although maybe slightly more so than robots.

Now would be a good moment for the dead wing to speak on Kat's behalf.

1. I noticed that the pupil on the eyes keep switching between which one is bigger on the left or the right on the skeleton, and this BUGS ME FOR SOME REASON but is not a big deal at all since I'm sure it was probably done on purpose.
2. Kat why do you have to keep being the odd one out? Why can't you just conform to being somewhat related to the supernatural like all the other kids? Hurry up and get your robot cult some deaths!
In other news, I agree that the window and shutters look like some sort of sticker or material, not actually a part of the wall.
Interesting!

Ooh, this one is giving me the cravings for KNOWING MORE. Tom's world creation is top notch. This whole "Realm of the Dead" gives off some kind of a Grim Fandango vibe to me. You know, not really serious, but at the same time deadly serious. Or something. I wonder if the "keep your hands to yourself" comment is supposed to mean "no taking the staff into the ether, Ms. Afterlife Guide, at least not without filling ALL THE PAPERWORK" ^^ Afterlife guide? She guided her mom but that was only once. Apparently if you do it once, it means you are qualified forever. Unless there is some way to lose your license ;-) but it doesn't seem to lapse just because some time passed while you weren't practicing. I feel bad for Kat, she only gets one symbol above her head. You know, this is an interesting point. What would Jane Everywoman get if she showed up? Nothing (doesn't seem right. Jones would get nothing)? A blank icon? A timer clock? ;-)

What intrigued me was that Antimony had the Antimony symbol above her head. We know that symbol in the comic, but I didn't know it was her 'official' symbol as it were. The other two symbols (Gillitie and the Fire elemental symbol) are already acknowledged, but not the Antimony symbol, unless we count the one on Renard's toy.
Also I said it a few days ago, but this guy reminds me more and more of Grim Fandango. I wonder if the ghosts see humans in the same way as they do in that game too?

Afterlife guide? She guided her mom but that was only once. Not only that, but according to Renard, "there was nothing there to take". So I'm kind of surprised that that counts. Maybe she will be a guide in the future, and this is retroactive causality. Like Jones. Or is that too wild?

And seeing how the receptionist seems to be a talking sticker, who knows what kind of reality/non-reality/unthinkable-state-of-being awaits them beyond that door EVERYBODY IS A CHEAP HALLOWEEN DECORATION AAAH

I think Rey was using hyperbole (it's super effective). Explain Surma figure in that panel when Antimony explains she had to take her herself. She don't seem like nothing to me ;-) I think the guides have a kind of professional rivalry going on - see the spat about the little fire scared boy. There was so little of Surma left, that it was worth an infinitesimal amount of "points", and so none of the guides gave a f***. I think guides are not necessarily nice, um, entities. Not necessarily nasty, either. They just have a job to do, and Surma would not influence their performance metrics enough to bother.

Afterlife guide? She guided her mom but that was only once. She did also help with thay boy who died in a fire, if only in assisting capacity. I guess that it counts, no matter how minor the involvement. EDIT: Ninja'd!

It really does look like cheap halloween decoration, doesn't it? Or rather like one of those cheesy "haunted house" rides.
Also, Receptionskelly is really rude. He should take notes from Adminbot!

The symbols seem to be positions they have been recognized with. As such I would think that the rest of the guides have already recognzed her as a guide of sorts. She has the history with her mom, helping that fire boy and who know how much else in the hospital, and has been working on Jeanne, before the guides even initially asked her to.
As for the symbols themselves, Obviously the Gilete one is for the medium, then I think that antimony is for guides and the fire spike is for fire elemental. Or that antimony plus fire spike means fire elemental guide.

I think it's interesting that part of the reason Annie is let in is because of her status of Gillette Medium. Has Ys been here before too? Also, in terms of how long dead people have been around (since the beginning of people, really), it's amazing that they would recognize this about Annie since she has been in it such a short amount of time, even by human standards.
Makes me wonder if Kat's symbol is brandy new...

It's been mentioned already, but "afterlife guide" does not necessarily mean taking souls to the afterlife.
I'm also wondering now, if the antimony symbol means afterlife guide, does it refer to Annie specifically? Or do all guides use that symbol? I would presume the former. In which case, how did mister skelly-sticker know the symbol?
Did Annie's mom use the antimony symbol is really my question.

Afterlife guide? She guided her mom but that was only once. It could be more like she's qualified for the job and is able to take on the role when needed, rather than it being something she does often. Like being a qualified lawyer, but not actually practicing law. Edit: On the note of what the symbols mean I would assume the Antimony symbol means "medium", as Annie's necklace with that symbol was given to her by her mother, who was also a medium.

People keep calling Receptionskelly two-dimensional, but he's actually the godfather to the bats' pups, and is an avid painter and kite enthusiast. He acts as the kite most of the time, but he really does have a lot of hobbies.

Huh. I suppose this is the first time I've ever given the "Kat will become the psychopomp for robots" theory any credit... Edit: On the note of what the symbols mean I would assume the Antimony symbol means "medium", as Annie's necklace with that symbol was given to her by her mother, who was also a medium. Yeah... A Court Medium. I haven't seen anything to indicate that title ever meant anything other than the diplomatic role. PS: I noticed the receptionist was a cardboard cutout last page; in fact, you can see the brass rivet holding his jaw on!
