I feel some explanations coming on.
'bout time we learned something about this mysterious "ether" phlebotinum.

For some reason, I'm reminded of Grim Fandango.
It shone, pale as bone as I stood there alone And I thought to myself how the moon, that night, Cast its light on my heart's true delight, And the reef where her body was strewn

Will it be about mechanical life and death, or will we get more psychopomp lore?

Seeing as it has something to do with the dead are we finally going to see some more Mort?

That Calavera has had a few too many. He needs to call his designated psychopomp. Hopefully, we'll get a little more info on the ether of GC.

Did he get hit by the same stuff as Kat and Annie in 1292? He just looks so happy ^__^

I wonder if we'll be hearing from, or otherwise dealing with, Mr. Jeanne's-Green.

I wonder if we'll be hearing from, or otherwise dealing with, Mr. Jeanne's-Green. Is there any reason to believe we will? Believe we WILL? Nope. Believe we MIGHT? The chapter title maybe? And a skull amid what appear to be not-exactly-human teeth?

This chapter has "Dead" in the title, so it's already guaranteed to be a barrel of laughs.

Looks awesome. Might be a part of the forest (or heck, even the court) that has a lot of undead roaming around.

Well, this looks interesting. That skull reminds me of the Mexican Day of the Dead-figurines. I wonder if we are going to see a bit about those afterlives that Coyote hinted at...

The chapter title made me wonder about capitalization, so I looked at some older chapter titles, and although almost all words are capitalized on all of them (unlike on the archive page, which is kind of inconsistent), there's an uncapitalized "and" on the chapter 35 title page! Goshly! (I've got my priorities straight.)

Goshly! (I've got my priorities straight.) In English language the nouns, verbs and adjectives are conventionally capitalised in titles of books, movies, etc. but most conjunctions, prepositions and particles aren't. If the title doesn't inconventionally start with "And", it doesn't get capitalised. It's actually pretty atypical to capitalise the word "of", either, like Tom does in the title of this chapter. Funny how I've never noticed this before in Gunnerkrigg.

Well, that's the most ominous title page since...three chapters ago. The tone of the comic seems darker recently. Will it be about mechanical life and death, or will we get more psychopomp lore? Why not both? A robotic psychopomp. Just calling it now. Bonus points if the chapter starts with focussing on Robert Paulson.
