When Fyodor Tyutchev once burned a batch of his poems by mistake — he had wanted to get rid of some useless papers — he consoled himself with the thought that »the Library of Alexandria also went down in flames«.

So, Kat might find some consolation in the thought that a lot of limbs have got burned before.

WHY TOM, WHY DO YOU TORMENT ME SO. Do my tears stained red with mine hearts tears amuse you. Do my angished cries that tear my throat cause you to giggle. Just tell me, tell me, telll meee, TELLLL MEEEE.
So why did Annie run away. Guessing we're in for a bit of a mood whiplash huh, those can be pretty shocking.

Losing the wing was "worth it". Could this lead to conflicts with the robots or fractions of the robots because she's neglecting her 'angelic duties' because of Paz?
Who thinks she'll find Annie before next week? [queue search montage]

I thought the Library was thrown into the Tigris? We're thinking of different libraries though.

I'm hoping the robots have the same positive attitude. Else, they may test the boundaries fanaticism, and "correct" the Paz problem. Of course, let's hope Annie is in a positive frame of mind, as well.

Back to Blaine...
Kat's going to try and talk to Annie, but be completely unable to wipe that smile off her face for the next couple of chapters...

Interestingly, the library of Alexandria was not so much destroyed by fire, but more dwindled from the pinnacle of ancient collections of knowledge into insignificance and then nonexistence over the course of 500+ years. It may have burned a couple of times during that time, but there was not one cataclysmic event as is often claimed.

I think Kat in love might be my favorite Kat. What a dork. agreed, She is quite cute when she has that smile. still think she'd look even better if her was still long. I miss her hair. Tom please let Kat grow her hair out again. Who thinks she'll find Annie before next week? [queue search montage] Why search? They sleep in the same room. All she has to do is go back to the dorms and wait long enough.

The Medieval myth that a lot of people still believe was that Arabs burned the collections of the library on the principle that if it's not in the Quran, it's heretical and if it is, then it's redundant. Ofcourse knowing the sheer meticulous obsession that the Arabs had for preserving the manuscripts of the ancient Greece, that story has pretty major holes in it. There were some fires. Some stuff was stolen. More was simply lost. But what really brought down the Great Library was simply that trade routes shifted and the city lost its significance.

I had never heard that the Arabs burned it. as far as I knew it was just burned, loosing most of the collections. I had assumed it was accidental of nature. with such a large library, in the masonry buildiings of the day. there would have been few windows, and light would have been by candle or oil lamp Both of which could easily have started fires if knocked over. nice to see Hette is back damn I can't believe Renard killed Hette like she was a chew toy what do you mean Hette is back? she is dead. finished. a soul can not tarry without a vessel to inhabit.

I was already wondering last week if the reason Kat's experiment went FUBAR was because she was distracted (rather than Paz messing something up, for example). With today's strip, the ambiguity continues, although all the smoke and fried robo-wings could just be because it's a lot harder to grow a techno-organic being than it is to build an anti-grav generator.

Kat messed up, she forgot to double check the voltage, current, and frequency settings of the experiment Either the voltage, current, or both was too high, and fried the bio-hybrid muscles. Paz didn't even know what Kat had planned.
