Here Kat was thinking she could make it if she tried.

I want to know what that device is, because to me it really looks like a sound system amp...I don't think that's what it is though.

Well that went about as smoothly as we expected. Just... not *as* expected.

So....... what exactly exploded in a cloud of nauseating gas? The prototype muscle? No wonder she wants Pazs help.

It was the sparks flying between Kat and Paz that overloaded the system.

I don't think that was supposed to happen...
... it looks to me like the lab won't be available for a few days while the robots clean out the fire-extinguisher foam.
Maybe next time Kat'll wait for the better fire-extinguisher to get back from whatever she's doing.
(And to all the folks who were complaining about how long it took to grow the prototype - that doesn't appear to be the worst problem with it.)

Also, that is quite a lot of gas coming from a small object.

Kaaaat, gassing your girlfriend like that doesn't make you seem any less creepy right now! I want to know what that device is, because to me it really looks like a sound system amp...I don't think that's what it is though. Oh, it's just a simple doohickey. Put together with some watchamacallits, and one or two thingamajigs it lets you do... things. I just assumed it was some sort of power pack that allowed you to control the size of electric current going through, sort of the same way an Amp works I guess.

Also, that is quite a lot of gas coming from a small object. First off, it doesn't take much to produce a LOT of smoke; it's partly gaseous, so it expands to fill the space it's in. Second, I'll bet it's not just the prototype (or maybe even the prototype at all). The liquid around it might throw up a little bit of smoke, but I'll bet that machine she was using to run the tests overloaded and the wires are now melting. That would produce a substantial amount of smoke.

It's a power supply.Edit: While some power supplies can act as amplifiers, they are extremely selective and will only amplify a narrow range around fhe resonance frequency, i.e. the peak levels of the incoming current.

Also... dammit Kat you needs to watch different romantic movies At least my horrible feelings of "oh dear god I am sure I have made this mistake with ladiez before" are (temporarily) eased. Heh.

I want to know what that device is, because to me it really looks like a sound system amp...I don't think that's what it is though. It looks like a Generic Electronic Thing. They want to test a responce of a muscle, so what they need is a source of stimuli for it, preferrably with both pulse form and frequency they can adjust. Thus obviously the rest of setup consists of maybe some primitive interface to set the right voltage and hopefully limit output current in case of short circuit (which doesn't seem to be in place, given the result), and a programmable signal generator. A relative of this, or this, or this. I wonder if the reason they needed Annie was because of the danger of fire. Can Annie control any fire? Or just fire of her own making? She could fight fire with fire!

At least that settles the question if that wing was biological. I doubt organic tissue would do that when exposed to a (reasonable) current.
