Fans don't really sound that bad once you get used to them. It's kind of calming.
Hope Paz brought a sweater.

Ooh! Cold? What's with that? Maybe Kat should ask Mort to come over?

And, @ Gotolei you almost beat me to the posting this time Hehe, I try.. I'll accept the three topics in two weeks though Mwahaha. Maybe I shouldn't waste so much time trying to think of a clever title, laughing on line.

Perhaps. In Wednesday's page, we saw her machine to try to bridge mechanical and biological organisms. This could be some vital part to it?

Wow. We know Kat's row of racks is at least four racks wide, with at least a dozen computers on each rack (processors/cores per computer not known).
Now we see there are at least three rows of racks. And another pair (or more) of racks for storage, the operator's console (including four CD/DVD drives), and probably networking hardware.
Kat's running a rather substantial computer installation there.
I'm not sure what the shorter box with the sloped front-top is. Maybe the in-the-room part of the cooling system, or maybe a full-room UPS. But either one of those would probably be more up against a wall than that appears to be.

I'm wondering whether the robots being so subservient to, and worshipping Kat is going to creep Paz out, who might see it as a modern form of slavery. To be fair the way alot of the court's inhabitants treat the robots is close to slaves.

Incidentally, to run effectively on a supercomputer of this type, a task must be divisible into many small pieces each of which can be carried out with limited interaction with other pieces except at the piece's beginning (to get the initial state of the data it will work with) and end (to deliver the results).
These pieces are called threads.

I wonder how recent all this hardware is. The court is pretty advanced compared to the real world, but that still looks like a CRT in the fifth panel (though admittedly it could be by choice). And if we go by the theory in the other thread about the machines and stuff coming from the Seed Bismuth..that makes these rigs rather old. Also random thought. Maybe Paz will end up borrowing Kat's sweater, since she isn't using it?

To be fair the way alot of the court's inhabitants treat the robots is close to slaves. Paz is friends with that robot from the animal lab where she volunteers. So she might be familiar with the robots work ethic, who have no concept of slavery or reward except for the labor itself. LinkThe whole "creator" thing might freak her out though... Also reminds me of the Geth and Quarians in Mass Effect. "Tali-Creator" When they start asking about "souls" people should start running.

Not particularly related to the comic... At the end of 1989, the world's fastest supercomputer was the Cray-2 with 8 processors. It delivered 1.9 gigaflops. I just ran a test on my Android smartphone. When running two threads (because it has a dual-core processor) it does 1.175 gigaflops.

Even the S1s are calling her master now.
Hasn't the Court noticed that one of their students seems to have the entire machine population bowing at her feet? They must have.

Unless the robots are keeping Kat's significance to themselves..? They don't seem to have a lot in the way of human interference with their work. Even maintenance seems to be robot-on-robot (see from 210 onwards).

C'mon Kat! Strange as it may seem to you, she DOES want to hear about what you do with your time; she WANTS to know about you! I'm wondering whether the robots being so subservient to, and worshipping Kat is going to creep Paz out, who might see it as a modern form of slavery. To be fair the way alot of the court's inhabitants treat the robots is close to slaves. Paz is friends with that robot from the animal lab where she volunteers. Also reminds me of the Geth and Quarians in Mass Effect. "Tali-Creator" When they start asking about "souls" people should start running. Dangit! You beat me to the Geth idea! Although, if you've played the third game, you'll note that the soul question only became a problem when the Quarians MADE it a problem; if they'd been calmer about it, things would have worked out a LOT better with a lot fewer lives lost. So I would say that running is exactly what people should NOT do!

It would be oddly fitting if they got cuddly for the first time in Kat's server room. Who needs candles when you got blinkenlights?
