Perhaps she's designed a machine to test how many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie pop. Also not to be that guy, but Kat's face in the last panel looks slightly different It's the spicy Latina flavor Paz is emitting bouncing off of Kat's dimples, much like the moon reflects sunlight.

"Back from her medium stuff." Is this chapter occurring at the same time as the previous one? If so, then at least we know they are still friends by the end of it.

Looking back through Catalyst I think it's the spacing between the eyes, but yeah that might be part of it. "Back from her medium stuff." Is this chapter occurring at the same time as the previous one? If so, then at least we know they are still friends by the end of it. I thought that, but they're wearing their uniforms in this chapter. Annie and Ys did seem to spend a pretty long time in the forest, even resting near the end. Also I'd be surprised if Eggers didn't try to get an explanation or two. Maybe this is after Kat and Paz's classes or something?

I doubt it, seeing as how nobody changed clothes from the start to the end. Unless Kat and Paz changed into their uniforms right after Annie left, and then back...

"and here is the spot where the secret robot police carved a symbol into a wall with lasers and declared me an angel"
It comes to me that wouldn't/might not seem that odd to Paz. Compared to some of the shit she has seen and heard about, some robots being weird isn't that strange.

I don't think it's the same day. There's the thing with the uniforms and Annie is the medium, so, well, "medium-stuff" is probably gonna take up a lot of her time on a regular basis.
Here's to hoping for a test of robot's bio-mechanic-abomination body
Also: C'mon guys what's up with all the double posts?!

+1 internets to anyone who can identify any of the machines in this comic! (Or whatever is being handed out these days; a cookie?) Actually, I just realized, I think there's only one type of machine in this shot; it's just variations on the same machine--aside from the massive numbers of drawers. I think it's a vertical turning lathe, or some variation on that theme, but I could be wrong. Any thoughts? It would make sense to have that, seeing as Kat is a roboticist; she needs to make lots of new parts! Also, my money's on this being a test of a new body for Robot!

This comic started me thinking; where does Kat get the money for her equipment? Machines like that ain't cheap, ya know! On a similar, more general note, how does the Court get their funding? Are they some sort of self-sustaining community, or do they support themselves with patent royalties on their inventions?

Ya know, I'm pretty sure I changed out of my school clothes at the end of a day to get into something comfier before settling in for video games..

Are they some sort of self-sustaining community, or do they support themselves with patent royalties on their inventions? Perhaps, all equipment came with the lab, being stocked by Kat's mother for Court business. As for materials, we still don't know the origin nor extent of the Court's urban sprawl. She could scavenge what she needs, and frankenstein things together. Patents aside, the court robots are practically slave labor. They could be making iPads and undercutting the Chinese on expense, as far as we know.

I love Paz in the last panel. That look of adoration she's directing at Kat... It makes me feel all protective.

"What have you got down these stairs?"
"Ah, that leads to some ancient tomb. I look after it."
"Look at all these funny robots! Are these also, like, tests or something?"
"Uhh..."

On the clothes changing thing, we can't even see what Kat is wearing in the bonus page of last chapter. She might be wearing her school uniform there. Or . . .

On the clothes changing thing, we can't even see what Kat is wearing in the bonus page of last chapter. She might be wearing her school uniform there. Or . . . [backtoosoon.png] That would be..something The more I think about this happening the same day as last chapter, the less likely it seems. I guess it's plausible that Annie spent the day in the forest while the other two had classes, but if this is happening after their classes where's Paz's bag? If she dropped it off at her place on the way over, why didn't she change into something more comfortable there (would be a chance for Kat to drop by her own place as well, and meet up at the train station or something)? I dunno, but at this point I'm pretty sure it's a different day. Also: C'mon guys what's up with all the double posts?! Easier for quoting multiple posts? This. It's a bit of a pain to open it up in a new tab and copy it over, or click through multiple menus to "select" posts and somehow know that the reply button will quote the lot of them. Why doesn't Proboards just copy the quote to the quick reply area..

I believe Tom said once (back in "Sky Watcher and the Angel" when Kat's first lathe was getting delivered) that the Court just gives the students all the supplies they need.

That would be the "Court" that grew from the Seed Bismuth, the "Court" that Jonathan supervises, or the "Court" that the Diego-robots' legacy maintains?
(... or are those just organs of an organic whole "Court"?)
