So close to being able to start the thread...but anyway, I'll note that strictly speaking this doesn't prove it wasn't Coyote all along. The whole glowy hornet bit and the final eating thereof could still be an illusion.
But probably not. Hopefully we'll soon learn what the "SB" really was, and how it knew to push the right buttons with Annie.

It appears that Coyote was using Annie as bait.
Huh.
One way to show the scary things that lie in the forest I guess.

And speaking of him: What exactly is Coyote hunting? Well, that answers that...

Just thinking: that's Renard and Coyote fixed up for etheric arthropod supplements. What does Ysengrin get for treats? Bovver-bites?

Ew, Coyote. You EAT your subjects? That brings an all new level of creepy to Coyote's rule of the forest. *shudders*

At some point, after this is better explained, Annie's going to complain that she didn't need Coyote's help to figure out the bug was lying, and he needs to stop being such a helicopter god all the time.

Okay so it's sort of heartwarming how Coyote's looking out for Annie and all... but on the other hand he appears to have just casually eaten a sentient creature and that's pretty unsettling. What use does an immortal god have for food, anyway? Does he absorb their life essence to power his chuckle-magic or what? Or is he just wandering around eatin' folks for funsies? Do all the forest inhabitants have to worry about Coyote hunting them when he gets bored? Yeesh.
Still my favourite character though. Always so happy. Yaaaaay, murder.
Oh and hey what's going on don't mind me just logging into the forums for the first time in months because I don't know why.

Oh, Coyote you should not speak with your mouth full.
Interesting how the mouth looks different before the clamp happens. I tried to find if he was hiding in the group of animals fighting Ys, but no such luck.

Interesting how the mouth looks different before the clamp happens. I think that's mostly because his usual goofy face wouldn't look very ominous behind sir ghostwasp there. Also he did that skull thing before, didn't he, when Annie was dreaming of Surma? Maybe it's a metaphor for imminent death.

A: It appears that Coyote was using Annie as bait. or B: So coyote was actively watching over Annie. Interesting. Knowing Coyote, I'll bet on A.

Yeah I'm doubting that Coyote is 'watching over' annie as some people have said, much more likely he was letting this happen until it went too far, or until the wasp thing was about to reveal too much. It has already shown that Coyote's Annan waters separated the two sides before they started fighting, not after.

What would be the motivation behind this for Coyote. He hadn't killed the Seed before now... or DID he?

What use does an immortal god have for food, anyway? Maybe he just ate the wasp because it was... being a pest. Looking at the last panel on the last page, the intensity of the light on the first panel of this page, and the position of the wasp and its legs on the second panel of this page, I would say the reason that Annie's fire spike is showing is because she used an etheric attack on it! Dang, I would have loved to see Tom illustrate that... And seeing as Coyote's jaws were waiting behind the wasp, and how he was helping her ever-so-slightly, I can't help but wonder if he's taking part in training her too? If so, I have to wonder what his motive is... My guess is so he can screw with Headmaster Llanblargalargh a little longer? I would say he might have used her as bait, but what reason would he have, unless the wasp's powers posed a threat to his own?

Even if the creature was the real SB (doubt it), and even if Annie wasn't bait, Coyote was hunting it. Which meant he was in chase. Which also means he intentionally drove his prey into Annie's path. Such a thing would not happen by accident. Coyote is many things, but arbitrary he is not, and he IS the forest after all. And yet, as a test...he kind of gave away the solution as fast as Annie solved it. That's a pretty crappy methodology, even for an irresponsible trickster god. Or at least, it's a crappy methodology if it's a test with just one problem to solve.
Could it be that he plans on driving more prey at Annie, waiting incrementally longer each time to gobble it up? Perhaps Ysengrin's job was to stir the hornet's (er...wasp's) nest and Coyote's job is to guide them at Annie one by one? Y'know, since this is training day and all?
I suppose this depends on whether the chapter is almost over, or we're only halfway through.

Hunting does not always involve a chase. Depending on your definitions ... it always comes down to semantics, doesn't it? Trapping, ambushing, stalking ... not chasing, but still hunting, in some sense of the word. The upshot is: In spite of the word "hunting", the SB-liar may have been unaware that it was being hunted, going about its own (foul) business. And it seems to me that was the case. If the SB-liar knew it was hunted, its evasion strategy seems ... lacking.

If the SB-liar knew it was hunted, its evasion strategy seems ... lacking. On the contrary, it was desperately trying to get Annie to sneak it into the Court. I assumed it wanted to do some mischief there, but could it not as easily have been trying to escape Coyote? The Court is probably one of the few places it can hope to run from him.

I suspect, it was reaching out to Annie to get back to the court, it was hiding in the ruins all this while. But once it made contact with annie, Coyote came in and put doubt in annie's mind about the truth that the SB was presenting - you can see this because, you can see coyote's trail (is that what its called?) which was repeating LIARLIARLIAR... And then Coyote came along and killed SB once and for all. Aaaanyway... first second post! Hi All

It could be possible that Coyote, instead of hunting that specific wasp, was just really looking for food, stumbled upon the SWasp with Annie. So he lent a hand, and had his fill. ... What use does an immortal god have for food, anyway? Does he absorb their life essence to power his chuckle-magic or what? Or is he just wandering around eatin' folks for funsies? Oh... err... right... umm... for the pleasure of eating? --- Now looking at the other perspective, Coyote may have been hunting to capture instead of hunting to kill (using Annie as bait, as one can easily suspect). He hasn't swallowed the SWasp yet, though he did break a few limbs. ...I can't help but wonder if he's taking part in training her too? If so, I have to wonder what his motive is... I think it would make some kind of sense if Coyote took part in Annie's testing/training. If he assigned her as the forest medium, might as well make good use of her, right?
