The debate about whether the self-proclaimed Seed Bismuth on page 1247 is the real thing or just a faking monster that is going to do some unforeseeable evil to Annie, has taken over the page thread so badly that it deserves its own thread. So, here, let's play our bets and engage in debate, is this a big turning point in the main storyline, does Annie really meet the Seed Bismuth, which would most certainly suggest that some big info will be shared and the story has reached some significant point of its whole length? Or will this end up with a that-was-close situation, a little sob, Eggers telling to trust the forest less, happy laughter of close survival and eventually just another experienced adventure that only takes this forward marginally? So, is this the Seed Bismuth, or is it not? I close the poll Friday morning, because I expect that something revealing will be in Friday's page, something that will keep up the suspension for Monday but might make it too clear who this is for real. My bet is on the real Seed Bismuth.

Seems real enough to me, and if it is, I wager its also a turning point. There's only so many teasers Tom can go through before he gets to the beef, right? ...Right?

I vote that it's not the genuine article. If Tom were to reveal the Seed Bismuth, it would be on the last page of a chapter or at least on a Friday.
I would love to be proven wrong, though.

THE SEED BISMUTH IS DISAPPOINTED WITH YOU HUMANS AND YOUR ETHER-STATION.
IT DEMANDS A CHANGE TO ÆTHER STATION.

Not necessarily a trap, but I'm almost certain it isn't what it says it is. If this is Ysengrin's army, well all armies have intelligence units/spies as well don't they.
And Ysengrin told Annie he was taking her here because she was still weak. Obviously Annie isn't going to suddenly grow 6 feet and be able to beat up half an army by herself, so I am thinking she is going to be forced to be mentally strong instead, and see through the traps laid out for her. IF she is easily fooled then she will never win the respect of the forest she is supposed to represent.

It has to be the Seed Bismuth! How could something so pretty be anything else? Although I like the idea of it being a mental test for annie...

All that fur and wood? He's a walking tinderbox, and so is the forest. I like the idea about it being an intelligence unit, though. Ysengrin's Army wants you! Meanwhile, I'm not at all sure that Ys' army has much of intelligence.

Alternate answer: It's the real Seed Bismuth, and has always been some kind of malevolent monster.

Alternate answer: It's the real Seed Bismuth, and has always been some kind of malevolent monster. Okay.... I'd sat it still counts for "The Real Seed Bismuth" option, because the main question is: is this the real Seed Bismuth or not.

There's something bigger going on here. It's far too early in the chapter for the real stuff to start.

This poll, that fortunately was closed early enough to not allow too well informed bets, seems to be turning into a great demonstration of how majority tends to be wrong.

I still vote for the Seed Bismuth is a Cunning Monster option. Not a Cunning monster is pretending to be the seed bismuth, but rather the seed bismuth itself is a cunning monster.

Here are some old hints for "A Trap of a Malevolent Monster", though with little known that could also mean "Seed Bismuth is a Cunning [evil] Monster", as Zimmy's "demon" that she tries to keep out of world is often related to technology. www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=468"It is only as real as you let it be" www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=832Spider in Annie's hand.

Well, today's page appears to have added evidence against the majority consensus, though we all know how quickly plot can shift when observing the work of Tom in realtime.
