Oh, we are going to see a nice brawl here, all those monsters gathering around Ys.
What I wonder, though, is it only because of his terrifying skills of gardening that Ys can handle this pack, or would he be able to pull off some etheric God-moves? We have seen that he has got pretty weak physically.
Because now, once again, he is always just relying on that tree-body, which is a lent power, not himself.

It's good to see Ys enjoying himself. Maybe he should host a martial arts summer camp for the green people. He only seems to smile when he's about to punch something.

"Aaand that's diplomacy, girl!" said Y afterwards, turning to Annie. "Should I learn this?" asked her, in return. "You can use the sword. You are weak, after all", was the smug retort.
I can already feel the fanfic annie + ys.

I'm just waiting for Annie to step in with a fiery entrance bein' all "Stop this. NOW." So the last frame is much stranger if you imagine that Annie is trying to join in and the the " GRUUUUU" is coming from her off-screen. That makes Ysengrin just stand there slack-jawed, in shock at the funny angry-noise coming from little fire-haired girl, while even some of the surrounding monsters take pause. I don't know why I thought of that, but I just wanted to share it because I thought it made Ysengrin look funny.

Next to the ruins, there happens to be a derelict salon. There's a goblin playing piano and a banshee twirling her hair. Hijinks ensue. Meanwhile, Eglamore looks at his sword, and sighs heavily.

I figured Ys was a Gruul man, with all the talk of strength and weakness and hatred of civilization and all that.

Funny, I never though of shortening his name to "Ys" until this thread. I assume that's pronounced "Ice", which fits fairly well.

I use it only because it actually shortens the text. Personally, however, I have always assumed that it is pronounced like "eyes".

Anyway, back to my earlier question, do you think Ys has any powers useful in a fight other than his terrifying skills of gardening?

I always pronounced 'Ys' as 'Yiss'. But I'm probably incorrect. And his 'terrifying skills of gardening' are pretty badass. Did you notice that in the most recent page he rooted himself to the ground in preparation for the fight? If he felt he was in any danger, he could just use the branches to grab them all from around him. Like that scene from Sky High with the plants.
I really hated that movie, but still, useful analogy.

So far, they seem to be pretty much directing their anger at Ysengrin. The grey goblin guy had the opportunity to attack Annie, whether right then or after Ys got knocked over, but he/she/it didn't. Though telling from the attack posture and position, it's not entirely clear. The giant snake though, maybe just one of the less intelligent monsters there?
It's possible that not all of them actually want to kill Annie and would simply refuse to listen to her at this point.

Something that Jones said about the creatures of the forest puffing themselves up and posturing for dominance comes to mind.

I personally always thought 'Ys' was like 'Iss' as Ysengrin is the same name as Isengrim, and I assume pronounced "ISS-en-grin"
