Oh my god, they spar for dominance, this is awesome!
Also, that guy looks an awful lot like one of Ben 10s forms.

I liked that reaction too, so much so that I seriously considered entitling this thread '[1244] Heh' ....but then that felt a bit silly.

I'm actually just a bit disappointed in Ysengrin for responding in just that way. Why should he have to have Coyote on hand to be able to school his "army"? It looks weak, to me, acknowledging a need that might be real, but detracts from his standing when referred to explicitly.

Which adds yet one more flaw to his rather wonky leadership routine. ...but what I meant with his reaction was the 'heh...' part, not the I tell Coyote -part.

Annie needs to hurry up and go all fire elemental on their asses Not only would it be awesome, it would erase all doubt as to whether she was 100% human or not among Yiss's skeptical troops. Probably earn her a fair bit of respect too.

I think it's animal posturing. Ys seems to be unsurprised by all of this. Perhaps he wants Annie to make the right decision of some kind.

I hope Annie doesn't make the mistake of coming to his aid. One of the others may make a mistake of threatening her. In which case we'll see whether she's too proud to swipe a page out of Jack's homework too.

I'm wondering, did Ysengrin actually roll onto his "back"? Or did he just turn his wolf-body in the wooden armor to face the other way, and make his arms joint the other way? It looks like the latter to me (no red stripes visible in the penultimate panel). If so, that's a pretty sneaky move, and worth his reaction in the last panel.

I'm pretty sure that the gray...thing turned him around; I think that's what the spirally bits are conveying in the second-to-last panel. I think Ysengrin is more thinking: "finally! Some sparring action! I haven't had a decent, straight-up fight in years!" Whether or not Annie tries to save him, he's going to enjoy this fight.

Also, I lobby that the gray monster attacking Ys hereafter be called "the GRARRGL dude," as somebody so poetically put it on the main page comments.

Also, on the subject of Ys actually being Coyote in disguise (which I believe has been suggested), the laugh made me buy it for a second, but then I went and looked at the page again, and I'm pretty sure that look in Ysengrin's eye in that last panel is Ys's own personal batch of crazy. Doesn't look like any expression Coyote would have on his face.

It looks weak, to me, acknowledging a need that might be real, but detracts from his standing when referred to explicitly. I got the feeling that he did it purposefully to goad one or more of them into attacking him. Part of the lesson for Annie . . . he showed weakness, so the others attacked. Now he's going to show strength by reestablishing the chain of command. By which I mean, beating them with a chain until they remember he's the one in command.

I'm expecting Ysengrin to horribly explode that guy into chunks next update. That's too human. Packmembers don't usually kill one another; they display strength (sometimes quite violently), and the less strong backs down.
