All I could think on this page: "FINISH HIM." (regardless of what gender Hetty really is)
Edit: Feelin' kinda bad for the people hoping Hetty would become a reoccurring character. :c
Potential alt text: "Hope Reynard's not allergic to crawfish." :V

Parasitic looking shrimp-monster, lifeless doll with huge, empty eye sockets... The last few chapters were so full of silly fun stuff, I'm glad we got the creepiness levels back up in this one! (Not that I have a problem with silly fun stuff, of course!)

Wow. This is probably for the best. I think Hetty could cause quite a lot of mayhem if unchecked. Props to Rey for quick decision making and taking a bold move. Wanton murder is not something I endorse, but I think in this case it's called for.

Wanton murder is not something I endorse, but I think in this case it's called for. It certainly helps that this is quite possibly the coolest thing I've ever seen. Also, it's interestingly far easier to watch him flat out chomp into Hetty when she's not humanoid, so all around this method of dispatch is incredibly helpful in making Rey not look remotely awful. It looks like he's slaying a beast rather than murdering a girl... Which, in a sense, is correct. I think the general rule now is, as soon as you threaten Antimony in Renard's presence, and you make it very clear that you fully intend to kill your targets, you're pretty much dead.

The take-away here is that Reynardine would've made "Child's Play" a really short movie

Renard looks a lot like his insane, murderous cousin on this page. Go figure.

I don't think that Rey is going for the kill, though. He appears to be chomping the connection between shrimp and doll.
Whatever he's doing, Rey certainly seems to know what it is.

Well, he also was pretty upset of this Krill-monster killing a little boy, and probably having killed that boy's sister. Rey is such a good boy, keen to nice and good things, not to all this killing and other mean stuff. He is practically the hippie of this webcomic, make love not war.

I can only hope this continues to go well. In any case, I'm torn between being relieved that this threat has been quelled, and quite a shame that a new character was so quickly introduced and then maimed.

Trivia: Shrimpy has three red eyes.
Hetty had two red eyes, and a large red button on her handbag

Trivia: Shrimpy has three red eyes. Hetty had two red eyes, and a large red button on her handbag That is awesome. Her purse disappeared after Renard dropped her stuff, I wonder what happened to it? I hope Renard talks to Adam after this... and that we get Hetty backstory. Just curious to know if she'd always been so psychotic or if being trapped actually pushed her over the edge.

Trivia: Shrimpy has three red eyes. Hetty had two red eyes, and a large red button on her handbag Interesting catch! So I went back a few pages to look at your observation with this perspective, and I immediately noticed again the orange sparkles around Hetty's hair. Now that I know what she is, I can't help but see it as the "Seafood" flavoring powder from the packet in a package of ramen. Especially with the shape of her hair looking like uncooked ramen noodles...

I hope that blaze doesn't damage any public property, or Reynard might get into trouble for all his, uh, trouble.

Is there any chance those orange things were eggs? Edit: I know it's a weird suggestion but I only ask because of this (avoid clicking if roe squicks you out)

THIS is precisely what went through my mind in a fit of sleepy realizaton that I would get to read a new GC strip today. (ie. in the middle of snoozing my alarm, "urrrrrrgh.. do I have work today? ... Wednesday.. Oooh.. new Gunnerkrigg.. zzzzzzzz...")

The hour or two, that it takes to painfully gnaw through her connection, will be edited out to move the story along. Hetty:"Sweet Mercy! Why would any loving god let something this painful exist. Why god, wwhy! Ahhhhh!" *incoherent babbling* Rey: *munch**munch**rip**munch* "Man, I could use some tartar sauce. At least, little lemon juice." Trivia: Shrimpy has three red eyes. Hetty had two red eyes, and a large red button on her handbag Awesome observation! I hadn't even noticed. Now, it's hard not to see it.

Those orange orbs are a mystery, aren't they? I thought it was part of her glamour effect, but then I saw them when she had her glamour failure. So I'm lost at that.
It might be a stretch, but maybe those orange things are similar to that thing where people say little orbs show up when ghosts are nearby.
Or maybe it's just some of her unstable energies leaking out and manifesting themselves as the orbs that we see?

Pretty sure it was just beads on strings attached to her hair as ornaments.

Pretty sure it was just beads on strings attached to her hair as ornaments. It might be as mundane as that. My only problem with this is, despite many close-ups of Hetty with the orbs present, I don't see strings attached. Law of Conservation of Detail, perhaps.. Edit: ...You know, I think it might actually just be some sort of plastic dandruff, seeing as it how it looks to come from her head.

So I'm here to complain a little. You know how you kinda need to have a good guy actually be around for a while before you care that something is happening to them? Well, the same is true for villains, to me. So, this Hetty character shows up in one chapter, and within this same chapter we're already seeing some kind of major blow-up with her. It's like... I dunno, she was just conjured up out of thin air simply for Reynardine to be able to angst against something for one chapter. Which feels a bit awkward from a writing standpoint. I kinda feel like she should have been introduced earlier. Especially considering the fact it seems like they've actually known each other for a little while. However: as some people as speculated, Reynardine may not be trying to end her permanently. Maybe she'll just chill out once they've had it out. If he does eliminate her though... I'll just go back to seeing her as an awkwardly introduced catalyst for his own character development. Mm, yes... it's far easier to watch the demise of something that isn't human-looking, isn't it? Far easier for us to detach ourselves from it. No need to worry ourselves that it might be a sapient being with feelings and issues. Not saying she doesn't need to be stopped. She does. Just don't suddenly forget that she is, in an intellectual sense, still a person. I'd rather watch her develop than die. Dead characters can't be interesting anymore.

I wonder what The Court thinks about this. If they weren't monitoring this situation before (which would be a pretty big failure on their part), the blaze should definitely get their attention.
