Hetty, you are an insult to krill everywhere.

I saw that coming but I didn't see THAT coming! Readers, remember to check your toys before going to bed. They may be possessed by hideous tube fish demons or something.

I for one am glad he went through with it, seeing as that's not his sister's ghost. At most it's some entity that used her stories about her doll to inhabit it. But now the questions are, what will it try to inhabit next, and what will Renard do with all his free date nights?

Hopefully nothing with eyes turns up in the next scene.

Whoa! Shrimp spirit, thing..... Or krill, if that's what it's supposed to be.
Anywaaays, any theory's on how the heck a shrimp spirit/ghost got imprisioned into the doll?
We were all thinking it was maybe a human spirit trapped in there, this was totally unexpected.

Obviously Hetty's goal was to krill all humans.

What I want to know is if she could take over Renard's body, or if Renard is the one with the stealing power while her spirit would have to be put into things.

What I want to know is if she could take over Renard's body, or if Renard is the one with the stealing power while her spirit would have to be put into things. It's entirely possible that Hetty does have a similar power, but it almost looks like she was abandoning ship (or abandoning doll as it were) just before the match hit and not after. So if she can leave posessed bodies at will, it brings into question her claim of being trapped. I doubt she would be able to take over an object that is already being possessed and we know renard is pretty strong. Any possible links between the symbol being either phosphorous, oil, or something and the fact that Hetty is some kind of malevolent shrimp spirit?

Maybe Reynardine was just hungry for seafood. People get cranky when they're hungry.

Also, it seems like a malevolent shrimp spirit would be right up Bud and Lindsey's area of knowledge, what with being eldritch crab-like arthropods.

How did a little girl get a shrimp spirit? Maybe it was a brine shrimp, otherwise known as "Sea Monkeys" - you see in those comic book ads.

Obviously Hetty's goal was to krill all humans. For that, the fires of judgement are uprawn her.

This actually brings thoughts about some less obvious things.
Like, for instance if Hetty is in her more "astral" form a shrimp-milipede combo, then why is her behaviour that much like what would be expected from her as some little girl's doll. I don't mean the whole let's-put-some-fiberglass/pins/needles/flammable-fluid-into-some-boy's-bed idea, but an overall air of dollishness about her. The way she speaks and prances around, and the way she thinks too.
How much the form influences the inhabiting spirit, also in Rey's case, and maybe others (forest fairies for one).

Well.. I expected something different. But since it's going to be like that - On a side note, I like Tom's rendering of matchstick fire for some reason.

LAUGHING ON LINE on the shrimp jokes XD
Anyway, Hetty resembles shrimp in the malacostraca class, which is what we usually think of when we say shrimp, or eat. Besides, brine. shrimp look totally different.

Looks like Reynard chucked a Barbie on the shrimp. (Oh, there are so many possible levels of punniness to explore here) ;-)
Oh Hetty, you got Rey a bit annoyed at you. Just imagine what he'd do if you got him really angry!
(For the humor-deprived, Barbie = the doll as well as a form of cooking)

Huh. So that's why Hetty was always so crabby.
How will she copepod with this new development?
Reynardine is a stone cold killer. He chucked that match like he just don't carapace.
Hetty just got crusta-shunned.
OK, I'm done.

Renard said something a long time ago that I am too lazy to look up tonight about the form and the mind that's had me speculating that his plush-doll body had some impact on how he relates to Antimony, and in general how a change in the body in the Gunnerverse can change the mind of the individual. [edit] Something to the effect of, "isn't the mind but the plaything of the body?" [/edit] So much for Hetty as a recuring character :/ Maybe not, there's probably other dolls around. Maybe it can find a hotter bod and she and Renard can rekindle their old flame someday.

Will someone let Lindsey or Bud know their delinquent daughter's been at it again? That was my first thought, too. But you know what? This probably is Bud! It was all just a test! They were trying to see whether Rey can be trusted and what kind of tricks he was up to.
