I'm worried about that smile. And I can't help to wonder how they met, for how long have they been talking, what they know about each other...

Girl knows how to push his buttons. Renard is a god, after all. Gods are famous for two things: amazing power and amazing ego.

Oh you guys are getting so worried about Renard! I think he is perfectly happy to help out with playing pranks on this 'Adam' whoever he is. He is a trickster god after all. But he is very protective of Antimony. I can see Hetty trying to do something to Annie though, and Renard getting protective and pissed.

Unless he has been really taking everyone for a ride, I agree that Renardine is merely bored, and not looking to take out Annie. She lets him do what he wants anyway. There's also the fact that he feels responsible for her somewhat, even if it is only because she is the daughter of someone he loved.

Well, we've learned a little more about Hetty. Trapped in a cursed body, but given some leeway by her captor's sister. Anyway, look how Renard's demeanour changes; as soon as Hetty drops Annie as a subject he becomes more responsive to Hetty's antics. It seems pretty clear that he doesn't want to insult Hetty by outright refusal, for some reason, but is willing to assist her when he has no emotional stake involved.
I really wonder how those two ended up in this odd little relationship.

As I said on Wednesday, I'm concerned Rey can be manipulated easily, this reaffirms that I don't know. Rey pretty clearly dodges and avoids any of Hetty's "suggestions" concerning Annie. It looks to me that he only avoids clearly saying "no" to keep Hetty content. He only gets involved when it's time to mess with this Adam-person.

This isn't the direction this should be headed in. He should be wearing a tiny fedora and stuff, not this. What the hell Tom? First cute lesbians, and now conspiring demonic toys?

So, could Adam's control over her be limited because the doll is actually his sister's property, but he's the one who did the ritual to trap her. So both siblings would get limited control over her.
And a clearer view of the alchemical symbol!

Now I'm curious what Hettie was like before being trapped inside the doll.

I rather enjoy seeing the relationship of two entities trapped in children's toys. It's...cute...

Hey, I've got an idea. What if the symbol was drawn correctly by Adam and then was somehow corrupted/spoiled by his sister?

The mark at the top could be three dots meaning "oil". The main symbol appears to be "oil essence" but more research indicates it was also used to mean "volatile" and the extra stroke across the bottom stem seems to indicate phosphorus, which is flammable.
"Oil, volatile, phosphorus"... hmm... let's hope for Hetty's sake that she never comes into contact with our favorite part-fire-elemental, 'cos when fire and volatile oil mixed with phosphorus meet, I believe the results are rather messy, especially for the volatile, oily phosphorus.

Now, is Hetty female? I somehow get the feeling that the current look "she" has is a result of them simply lacking a male doll, if it were appropriate.

Again, that grin of Rey's. Three possible explanations:
1. He is easily flattered by females, supposed that Hetty actually is female, and is happy for Hetty clinging to him. 2. He has a mean twist in him and wants to hurt Adam and possibly do other evil things (oh noes!) 3. He fakes enthusiasm to Hetty as a part of his ruse to get her (somebody suggested that he is a double agent).
My guess is no. 1.
Of course, we still have to take in consideration the outside possibility no. 4: Rey has just farted and is expecting Hetty to smell it any moment now.

So, I wonder how evil Adam really is? I don't think Hetty is a very good judge of character, but the fact that Renard does go along with it might mean something. As far as the smile goes... www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=409Hetty must know how proud he is of his lock picks.
