So, Hetty has gone from putting glass fibers into a person's bed right to suggesting murder?

"Huh, I could kill her couldn't I? I wonder why I hadn't thought of that. Thanks Hetty!"
But seriously, I love that Hetty is being proactive and isn't just waiting for solutions to appear, like that lazy Smitty. She is throwing ideas out, trying to see if anything sticks.

You know what would stick? A knife on Annie's back, that'd stick! Wait, Tom wouldn't go all Hitchcock on us and kill the girl halfway through the story, right? Right?

What would happen if Annie died? The contract of ownership would dissolve? He would be still in the body of a toy but without a mister/ess?

Is anyone else concerned that Rey could be manipulated into this really easily?

She didn't hear a word he's saying, did she?

Hopefully Antimony has also ordered Renard not to kill her. Presumably the Court would've suggested that. It's just common sense. Of course that wouldn't cover all possible contingencies, like if Renard and Hetty made a pact to kill each other's masters. Extra points if Antimony gets thrown from a train.

You can still use the old tags too. So what's your MO Hetty? Poison? Booby traps? Let's hear your scheme.

Let's just hope Tom isn't going to take a page out of George R. R. Martin's books...
Even if so, I don't think ol' Reyrey would go and kill Surma's daughter.

Pretty sure Tom said that the contract of ownership prevents Rey from deliberately harming Annie.

Is anyone else concerned that Rey could be manipulated into this really easily? Not at all. I think Renard is pretty uncomfortable with Hetty's talk about slaves and murder, but puts up with her either out of sympathy or for another reason we don't know of yet.

- Renard must obey the orders given to him by Antimony Carver.
- Renard must not injure a human being, except where such behaviour would conflict with the First Law.
- Renard is free to do whatever he wants as long as his behaviour does not conflict with the First or Second Laws.

Okay, Hetty do you need to go back in the curio cabinet? You're going back in the curio cabinet.

Is anyone else concerned that Rey could be manipulated into this really easily? I'm more concerned Hetty will just ignore however Rey responds and go on trying to murder Annie anyways. The next few chapters have Hetty hiding in shadows, stalking Annie until she has an opportunity to stab her or something. I feel like we may have a new main villain.

And now the chapter ends the same way last one did: Rey smiles, the camera zooms out and "Yeah...okay"
I wonder how often Annie unintentionally gives Rey orders

Let's just hope Tom isn't going to take a page out of George R. R. Martin's books... In GC, the "Red Wedding" would probably be quite different, though.

Especially if Rey treats her suggestion with hostility. She might see Annie as "competition" or something

I love the "oh!" like this idea just occurred to her. If she keeps talking like this whatever reasons Renard has for putting up with her will go out the window. Is anyone else concerned that Rey could be manipulated into this really easily? If you're referring to the fact that he's been tricked before... he's come a long way since Surma and Coyote and this seems like kind of a different situation. Hetty would have to be REALLY convincing and know what sore spots to hit. And so far he doesn't even seem to take her very seriously.

Hetty reminds me suspiciously of Coyote. The subtle planting of doubt, the zoom in on the crazy eye, the sudden crazy exclamation....pretty similar to another couple of pages, in fact...

"And after that, we can take a ride in the new laundry dryer! We'll make a day of it!" like if Renard and Hetty made a pact to kill each other's masters. I'm hoping, this has been Hetty's plan all along, and Rey is undercover for the Court, so she won't recruit another imprisoned soul. It can end in Film Noir fashion, and we'd get to see Rey in a tiny Fedora.

Yup. Hetty is so smart! Is anyone else concerned that Rey could be manipulated into this really easily? Of course. She's SO TRICKY!!1 I love the "oh!" like this idea just occurred to her. If she keeps talking like this whatever reasons Renard has for putting up with her will go out the window. Not necessarily. "Morbid fascination" is still on the table. Hetty reminds me suspiciously of Coyote. The subtle planting of doubt, the zoom in on the crazy eye, the sudden crazy exclamation....pretty similar to another couple of pages, in fact... ...which, together with her feelings toward humans, points at the glass-eyed ones?

Meh, I get the feeling murder is Hetty's solution for everything except no one lets her murder anyone because they're no fun. Especially Adam, such a murder-blocker.
More seriously, I think Renard might be reconsidering the balance of his and Annie's relationship but he does love her dearly, even if he's a little mixed up. You know. From almost murdering Annie and the whole Daniel, Sivo murdering and loving Surma thing.
Theme of my week: Murder!
