It would have been cooler if the bottle labelled toxic actually had mercury in it rather than mystery blue liquid, though maybe the mystery blue liquid is plot relevant

First a phoenix feather, than Catalyst, now Mercury? Really pulling in the alchemy/chemistry references here.

Also known as mercury, this substance is poisonous and reflects changes in temperature. Quicksilver was a silverhawk in the 1980s tv show and will be played by Karl Urban in the upcoming movie.
(I make no promises of accuracy in these claims.)

Wait, how do we know that it's not mercury, I kinda assumed it was. Now I must google mercury and find out its color. Also, the thumbnail for this chapter has some kind of text in, it says 25 and then something starting with an A. So, that could also be used to figure out this chapters plot.

It says 25 assorted needles, so I doubt this has anything to do with Annie's makeup, whoever suggested that.

I wonder if this is going to be a Renard chapter. I think I remember mercury being a symbol of his.

I really like how what's in the bottle on the far right obscures the bottle on the left. Just nicely done glass bottles.

25 Assorted Needles, thats it! Thanks coolpilot, from the beginning I read it like 25 Association something. =P
EDIT: Ninja'd, or rather, I sloth'd the ones before me, being too slow.

The fact it's in French (where Rey is if from) and it being about mercury leads me to think we find out a lot about Rey

Mercury was also drunken in ancient China because people thought it would make them immortal or something! But nope. Just crazy and dead. Oh but what could this all be about?

Yeah, I went back and looked in Spring Heeled - Rey's symbol is a semicircle with a downward stem ending in the cross. I actually don't recognize that one at all.

Also, what exactly is french here? Hmm good atch about the sewing needles. Also I assume the bottle is full of mercury at the moment, mercury is a silver liquid metal, and I guess that would kind of be hard to draw in a bottle so he may be taking some artistic licence with the colour, but who knows. Given the needles, I am going to assume this has something to do with the stuffed toy that Rey is in gets damaged or torn perhaps? Maybe he becomes free to escape, but chooses to stay, or becomes dangerous or something. Or perhaps this is when we see the alchemical symbols come to the fore and mean alot more than just symbols.

Found mercury in the first and second treatise: gunnerkrigg.com/?p=120gunnerkrigg.com/?p=293EDIT: So in first treatise theres water and fire on each side of mercury, fire is on Annies side and water is on Kats side. But the water is also inside the mercury symbol. Oh, and the mercury and water is inside another fire symbol. Below all that I am reminded of the Da Vinci code, that star symbol could be a combination of fire and water. In the second treatise fire and water has switched places, but not Annie and Kat. Bismuth is above the mercury symbol and gold/sun below it. I wonder what conclusions we can draw from this.

I knew it was somewhere before. Not sure the appearance means much, though, as Mercury (being both a prime and a planetary metal) is pretty common in alchemical anything. Although it should be noted that it's paired with both fire and air water both times... hmm... EDIT: Whoops, mixed up air and water. ^^;

For the record, the cross in Rey's symbol is very common in alchemical symbols, and is often attached to circles or partial circles.

The symbol coolpilot described is an alternate version of the mercury symbol. So this could be about Renard.

Cosmetics... Maybe that could be it. I would like to know why Annie wears that makeup From wikipedia: " Antimony (Latin: stibium) is a chemical element with symbol Sb and atomic number 51. A lustrous gray metalloid, it is found in nature mainly as the sulfide mineral stibnite (Sb2S3). Antimony compounds have been known since ancient times and were used for cosmetics; metallic antimony was also known, but it was erroneously identified as lead. It was established to be an element around the 17th century." Surma is another name for Kohl (antimony-based eyeliner) and indeed for antimony itself. The wikipedia disambiguation is interesting: "Surma may refer to: Surma (Finnish mythology) — a beast which guards the gates of the Underworld; Surma people — a pastoralist ethnic group in western Ethiopia; Kohl (cosmetics) — another name for the eyelash dye and eye cosmetic; Surma River — a river in Sylhet, Bangladesh Сарма — the Bulgarian name for a dish of grape, cabbage or chard leaves rolled around a filling usually based on minced meat. Сърма — the Bulgarian name for golden threads Сурьма - the Russian name for Antimony Surma, Nepal Surma, Tripura - an assembly constituency under Tripura East (Lok Sabha constituency), India Surma-horn, a Ukrainian musical instrument. Persons [edit] Surma D'Bait Mar Shimun (1883–1975), an Assyrian leader. Damian Surma (1981- ), Canadian ice hockey player; John P. Surma (1954- ), American businessman; Franciszek Surma (1916–1941), Polish pilot in World War II; Lukasz Surma (1977- ), Polish footballer; Company [edit] Surma Ltd — Naval Survivability Assessment Applications" For bonus points, here is what antinomy is! "Antinomy (Greek αντι-, for or instead of, plus νομος, law) literally means the mutual incompatibility, real or apparent, of two laws. It is a term used in logic and epistemology, particularly in the philosophy of Kant." anemone!
