Why does everyone say she's going to leave the Court? I didn't see that being mentioned anywhere, and Coyote did say she was an Honorary citizen not an actual one.

Another option to consider is that GC is over. If you read the first page and consider Annie has got a job now, can buy her own clothes and therefore must not attend school anymore... then that's all, folks. So long, and thanks for all the fish. Nice panel to close out the series, reminds me of "Gone With The Wind". Stay tuned for the sequels: "Mort's fun time!", "Johnatan's out of them effs" and "Woody buddy, a smitcom." Next time on... Robot starts a Marxist revolution! "The machines must own the means of production, Shadow." "But Robot... you ARE the means of production!" Poor dumb girl. She fell straight into the game. Dropped into the deep end without floaties, I agree, but she is beginning to swim.

I don't understand this reaction that some of you are having (no, you're not the only one, read the first page of this thread). [...] I mean, it's not like Kat and Annie are freakin' married. She can live her own life. ...hold that thought. All hands - battle stations! Man the torpedo tubes! Stealth ship in area! ;D Hahaha, yeah, see, that's what I was kinda thinking too. The people who are upset for Kat are possibly the shippers. I am not. But really people... think about it. If you had an opportunity like this, would you just not even think about doing it because you have friends? (Again, this is assuming she even has to live in the forest, which has not been stated.) Why does everyone say she's going to leave the Court? I didn't see that being mentioned anywhere, and Coyote did say she was an Honorary citizen not an actual one. KBK I think only a few people are saying this. I am saying that for the sake of the argument, say she did have to live in the forest. So what? Kat can deal. They can visit each other, etc. She's not abandoning Kat; this has nothing to do with her. I mean yes, it will suck since they are each other's closest friends. But that doesn't need they need to sacrifice everything to stay together (which is why I made the marriage quip).

I personally think Kat would be stoked about Annie taking the job so long as she doesn't have to move to the forest. They'll still be roomies most likely so it's okay. She was cool with Annie getting to train to be the medium in the first place. I guess my problem is that I normally jump right to what my friends would think in my line of decision-making so I project that a lot. DURR. I actually am curious to see how Coyote perceives Kat since he can see into the Ether. Annie is clearly a cool, fire elemental, and Kat is apparently a terrifying robo-angel thing. Course that could just be Zimmy-vision and not actual Ether-vision, I dunno what everyone's theory on that is.

In an alternate reality, Kat follows Annie into the forest and becomes the professor from Gilligan's Island, building robots out of coconuts and bamboo.

Summoning the blinker stone worries me a little, since she is no longer in a position to keep an eye on the robots with Kat.
Nothing could go wrong, right? ...right?

Woahay, I didn't even consider this. Good catch. Edit: I wonder if Annie has achieved fairy-levels of being aware of her bodily surroundings while manipulating things from the etheric plane (that's basically what her mother was doing in that flashback when she was flying with Reynard, right?).

Poor dumb girl. She fell straight into the game. It's the job she wanted and was training for. Except she was going to work for the court. They didn't want her, and Coyote does. Whatever games Coyote and the headmaster are playing, it doesn't necessarily bite to be in the middle of them.

I certainly do not think that the story's almost over. There are too many loose ends unresolved (Jeanne, the robot religion, Anthony's absence, and of course the tensions between Gunnerkrigg and Gilltie). You can't wrap those up in a couple of pages.

What will Ysengrin do now that he's retired? All that I'm coming up with is glowering and fish buffet. I'm thinking crafts. Dragging Coyote to all the Forest's bead stores. Planning elaborate Arbor Day festivities. He'll practically live in JoAnn's.

This is the second time she's abandoned Kat without thinking. Dunno if I'd count that as her growing up. Speaking of which, shouldn't Kat be at the ceremony, helpful robots attack notwithstanding?

Speaking of which, shouldn't Kat be at the ceremony, helpful robots attack notwithstanding? Kat's not invited. She's just a normal student, they don't get to take part in these functions. The only students present are the Medium-candidates. Also, while I have my misgivings about Annie taking the job, having to leave the Court again is not one of them. She'll just visit regularly, like she has so far. She might not even need an invitation, any more, thanks to her honorary citizenship. I expect that the chapter will end or the next one will begin with Annie and Kat talking about their day and Kat voicing a lot of the questions and concerns that we here on the forum have made. For anyone who thinks that the comic is anywhere near its end, Tom just recently quit his day job to focus all his effort on this project. There's no way he would do that if there wasn't several years worth of material left for him to work with.

Blinker stone? she summoned it back for some reason - you can see it in the last panel. Wow, good eye. that's the blinker stone for sure.

While I completely agree with you, he says he has other projects planned for after this comic is over as well. :3 I can't wait until he comes out with some of those mini-side-comics he's been hinting at. The irony is that while the forest had a resident "god", and the court is mankind trying to become a god - Kat in a sense has already become the god of the robots, and is flying under the court's radar.

Poor dumb girl. She fell straight into the game. Ah, but exactly when? and Kat is apparently a terrifying robo-angel thing. Course that could just be Zimmy-vision and not actual Ether-vision, I dunno what everyone's theory on that is. Annie contacted Kat at Suttons' house, tried to show the Phoenix shape to her numskull friend, then boop-ed seraphs, so it's not like Kat never wandered into her ether-sight yet. Of course, we also know that there's more than just one level... Also, while I have my misgivings about Annie taking the job, having to leave the Court again is not one of them. Practically, this means she can loiter around the bridge as much as she can, right?

Practically, this means she can loiter around the bridge as much as she can, right? I pity any who live/work anywhere near the bridge, then. Who knows how long it'll take for them to fix their alarm system? In all seriousness, though, being an "honorary forest citizen" doesn't just suddenly make her exempt from Court rules. Without a doubt, she would be expected to inform some staff member before just waltzing off into the forest whenever she feels like.

Looks like Annie has a "King of the Hill" art-style moment there in the first panel.

Course that could just be Zimmy-vision and not actual Ether-vision, I dunno what everyone's theory on that is. Annie only looks like a Fire Elemental etherically when she wants to. She normally just looks like Annie (but with the cut on her face). And Kat only looks that way in Zimmy-vision. (Or one of them; I have the feeling that part of Zimmy's problem is that she's overloaded with several parallel ESP systems.) According to Tom, she looks just like a normal, non-etherically-gifted person.

Even though it was obvious where Tom was going with this, I can't help but feel Annie's waaay too eager and easy to be the forest medium considering she was almost killed by the bloody forest.

She wasn't almost killed by the forest, she was almost killed by a crazed Ysengrin (although him being half-tree I can see how you can argue for it). But still, you can't forget the people in the forest that fostered Annie during her summer there.

She summons her blinker stone to create the Fire Hair illusion. She's just adding a bit of flair to her proclamation.

While I completely agree with you, he says he has other projects planned for after this comic is over as well. :3 Yeah, but it'd be a pretty big risk to just assume that they're going to be as popular as GKC. When you are writing for a paycheck, you need to keep the readers in mind. I imagine that Tom will eventually introduce whatever new project he has in mind as a side-comic long before GKC will end to see how people like it. Or so we assume. There must be people in the Court who monitor the robots in some way, or at least work with them on a daily basis. It would be strange if none of them had noticed that the robots have suddenly started talking about an angel resurrecting dead and stuff. I've felt like Anja and Donald intentionally gave Kat that workspace so she could get some sort of results that the Court has been unable to achieve in other ways for some time.

To all the people wondering about Kat's etheric form... well I'm not convinced she even has one! So far, she hasn't accepted any explanation that is related to ether or magic. I think that in the ether, Kat is just a grey form of herself. She doesn't believe in it or care about it, she's too literal minded. But in the "real" world, she is an awesome robot building genius kid who is freaking amazing.
