The current site at gunnerkrigg.com has been slowly falling apart over the years and I've been having to keep things together in the back end to keep it up and running. I've finally decided to get a new site made, and we are making it live right now. This is just to let you know you might experience some downtime or odd behaviour for the next hour or so.
The site should look basically the same as it always has, but it should actually work for me in the back end. Please post here if you come across any problems.

The two most recent pages (1133 & 1132) are not displaying right now (earlier pages seem to be OK), don't know whether that's one of the side-effects you were expecting?

No worries, I'll let people know when the move has taken place. Until then, there might be some weird things happening.
Also, there is some bad news for the devoted page number/thread goers: It looks like Due to a few hiccups I made years ago, the page numbers are all off by 1 or 2 page numbers... so when the new site is up and running the old page links in the threads here will link back a page or two early.
Sorry about that, but the main reason for this move is to get the site ship shape and iron out any errors moving forward!

Hi! I'm the one responsible for today's mess. If anyone notices something messed up or unexpected with the site, please email me at fceffect@gmail.com. I can address any issues faster that way.
Thanks for holding up and sorry about the page number debacle!
(I would suggest hard refreshing the page first or clearing your cache if you see something that's off before contacting me, just in case)

Someone could possibly write a script to update the index posts... someone who knows magic.

Someone could possibly write a script to update the index posts... someone who knows magic. There's a way this can be done. Currently, old links just redirect straight to their associated page, but it's no longer accurate. (for example, www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=516 takes you to gunnerkrigg.com/?p=516) I can manually tell it to point to the right ones, but that would be a time-consuming endeavor. We'll see!

I just dropped in a bunch of long-belated links to my old posts the other day, thus inviting a jinx. Also at the time that I am posting this the link for Boxbot on the Cast page takes one to comic #205 when it should go to #203.

(I would suggest hard refreshing the page first or clearing your cache if you see something that's off before contacting me, just in case) Firefox macros is probably your best bet. It can automate the process of highlighting text in your URL bar and then inputting it in another tab. You just click the record button and do the process as you would normally do it. Very little if any programming knowledge required. (Or you could just farm the job out to someone like Amazon Mechanical Turk and pay people a tenth of a cent per entry to change them all by hand.)

Thank you all for your suggestions for the renumbering. But I do have a plan of action for that; it's not getting fixed tonight, though.
I just finished speed-archive binging to make sure everything was in order, so now I can get on to the other issues at hand (which are thankfully fairly light).
Chapter 11 was rough though, haha.

I made an account here to let you know that Chapter 19: Power Station is linking to the wrong chapter on the archives! Keep up the good work.

Does this mean we can ditch all the complicated code on the Wikia which accounted for the page-skips?

Of course, inserting two filler/guest/Tom's twitpics/whatever pages in the right places would fix the numbers.

Twitter feed updated. It caches the most recent tweet, so Twitter can't rate-limit us anymore (for those wondering where it went)!

I remember running into odd numbering of the pages when I was reading through the archives -- something happened to the order in the range of 44-46, according to my notes... it went 43, 46, 45, 47, I think. Is that completely reconciled all the way through, now? It must have happened again, later, to get the numbers off by two.

Aww man. Am I the only one who liked the old "Quick Archive Bar" (below the page) better? Now we can't go quickly to a specific page if we want to.

Yeah, in one of the more recent chapters ( Fire Spike, maybe), the page numbers skipped by a few. Aww man. Am I the only one who liked the old "Quick Archive Bar" (below the page) better? Now we can't go quickly to a specific page if we want to. Yeah, but the bar was getting pretty huge. Maybe if there was a way to make it have submenus or something. I wish they still had the calendar archive page, so you could tell when a certain page went live.

legionHow would that solve the calendar issue? maxMaybe they'll be bringing that feature back? That was pretty handy for some things.

maxMaybe they'll be bringing that feature back? That was pretty handy for some things. Idea: In stead of trying to re-index every single page number, give each page information as to what page of the chapter it is. Then, include a "Go to Page ___ of this Chapter" box next to the chapter select pull-down menu. When someone enters a number in this box, their destination is calculated as a displacement off of the current page (of chapter) number, which is applied to the overall page number to calculate the final destination. For example: Page 3 of Chapter 19 is p=443. If I wanted to go to to Page 8 of that chapter, the displacement would be (8-3)=5. So, the final destination would be p=(443+5)= 448. If I then wanted to go to Page 6, the displacement would be (6-8)=(-2). Therefore the destination would be p=(448+(-2))= 446.

At gunnerkrigg.com/archives/ you can now go to a specific page in a chapter. On a comic page, hovering your mouse over Tom's name will give you the comic's release date. How the date appears might change in the future. The archive_page.php links will be adjusted, eventually. I hope you are all having a relaxing holiday season!

All links from the Gunnerkrigg Wiki links to two pages later than they're supposed to. I know it doesn't have anything to do with Tom, but I don't really know where else to put it. I searched the Wiki for some place to send in bug reports and the like, but couldn't find (I probably just overlooked it though -.-'). I just post this here in the hope that someone who has something to do with it, sees it, and if there is a page where I can report it directly on the wiki, feel free to guide me to it.
I apologize for the slightly unrelated notice.

Looks like update broke the RSS. Yeah. I re-subscribed and it worked for a few days but it did not get Monday's update.
