I'm inclined to believe what I said last page about Annie not being in any danger because of Coyote's promise was wrong. Dude's totally losing it. But then, Coyote seems to have expected something like this. And while he's a massive jerk, he doesn't seem to be the type to gamble with Annie's life. Well, actually he's totally the type to gamble with somebody's life, but he seems to have plans with Annie...

Do we have a pool as to what day Annie will be saved from Rabid Ysengrin and by whom?
I'm taking Coyote in 4 strips (not this Monday but next Monday).

The next-to-last panel immediately brings to memory Spirited Away's No-Face.
I'm pretty convinced Tom had that image in mind.

Remember that last time Yssy attacked Annie it was a sleight of hand (sleight of limb?) meant to distract from his real agenda. Just because Coyote (and Jones, and Eglamore, and okay, just about everyone else) has a low opinion of his sanity doesn't mean we should underestimate him...
Alternatively: "My, what big teeth you have..."

I'm guessing this is Coyote's way of making Annie start taking things more seriously.
She was getting awfully friendly with Ysengrin, and this may be his way of putting a stop to it.

I'll take you at 6:1 odds, your favor, on beacon snap in three strips or less. I take everything except rubles, yuans, euros, and... heck, any currency from southeast Asia.

Walp. Ysengrin sure took care of that "But your body is human" quip. Do we have a pool as to what day Annie will be saved from Rabid Ysengrin and by whom? 1000 zorkmids on Annie incinerating Ysengrin's wood-suit and leaving him with some food for thought as she calmly walks away in 2 strips. The next-to-last panel immediately brings to memory Spirited Away's No-Face. I'm pretty convinced Tom had that image in mind. I had JUST finished watching Spirited Away before reading the new comic and I see the same thing!

Because, seriously, how clever is it to even give the impression of attacking someone who can start fires—and has already demonstrated that they are not always under complete control—when you yourself are quite so burnable?

Oh come on, Annie. Just turn and flash fry him. Fire types beat grass types! Wait, shit. Annie has never played a single video game. She wouldn't know that, would she? Welp, it was nice knowing her then. Video games could have saved her life. Let that be a lesson to the rest of you. Walp. Ysengrin sure took care of that "But your body is human" quip. I would like it a lot if he was just going though excruciating pain, and not planning to attack, because he was reshaping his tree body to a wood wolf. I think he'd look awesome that way. But then I've always thought he should have ditched the tree body long ago.

Also known as: Give him one of your famous "spankies". It'll work. There is no way it can't.

Just replace worms with wood. Anyway, so much for talking things through. It seems that when Jones considered Ysengrin mentally unstable, she wasn't mistaken after all. Personally I expect Coyote himself to interfere before things get too hairy, and laugh at Annie, and tell her "I told you so".

I'm inclined to believe what I said last page about Annie not being in any danger because of Coyote's promise was wrong. She's still in Coyote's realm. Coyote may not be visible, but he knows what's going on methinks. Especially considering his merge-with-the-ground trick from page 1077.

Keep talking like that and you're ripe to be banned by Tom himself. We use full words and proper grammer on this board, not Internet-speak. Do we have a pool as to what day Annie will be saved from Rabid Ysengrin and by whom? I'm taking Coyote in 4 strips (not this Monday but next Monday). I've got a dozen cookies on Annie being cornered this Monday or wednesday. I've got another 7 on her unconsciously flaring up his body and bringing him back to just his weak wolf-body self, which is unharmed in the fire.

A wild guess is that in the next page Y will be using the small branch he gave to Annie here: www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=1062. So he will cut Annie's hair. It would also be the symbolic loss of innocence, and the episode that ends Annie's youth. A suggestion to this idea is given by Coyote's sentence "let's see if you are so eager to [...] tie up your hair after this day": www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=1077I think it is an obvious remark of "you will not want next to your body something that Ys can bend".

That would be very interesting! It has been a bit since the last hairstyle change. ;D I wonder -- regarding Ys' wood-controlling powers; what is the extent of them? Has anyone heard anything on formspring regarding the specifics? Do the trees have to be rooted, or could a freshly-downed one still be controlled? How about worked wood -- could Ys control a chair? Even further, a piece of paper?

I'll bet that in three strips Anne gets backed into a corner and has to fight for herself.

Just logged in to agree with everyone about the creepy Miyazaki-vibe that this page is giving off. This is horrifying. -- Edit: Did anyone else hope she was going to start flying in the last page or today's page? Although I think most of you are right on using the beacon, and then having a resulting showdown between Ys and Eggers.

I just figured she'd singe his fur a bit and snap him out of it. I suppose there's still time for that.

I went and looked again and on panel 5, you can actually see more lupine legs coming from underneath him.

Man, this page brought out a particularly fun thread today! but he seems to have plans with Annie... Does he seem like the sort of person who has plans? The next-to-last panel immediately brings to memory Spirited Away's No-Face. Thank you! It was tickling my memory, but I couldn't place it. Spot on. Welp, it was nice knowing her then. Video games could have saved her life. Let that be a lesson to the rest of you. Haha, awesome. Truly a lesson to be learned! Walp. Ysengrin sure took care of that "But your body is human" quip. Originally came here to say this. It's an exciting development, IMO. A wild guess is that in the next page Y will be using the small branch he gave to Annie here: www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=1062. So he will cut Annie's hair. It would also be the symbolic loss of innocence, and the episode that ends Annie's youth. Marvelous! I love it, though I'd find it more likely for some reason if Kat had let her hair grow out again. I just figured she'd singe his fur a bit and snap him out of it. He's in full on rage mode. IMO, fighting back would make it worse.
