This chapter's title is The Great Secret. This thread is for all our (totally wrong) guesses as to what that secret is.
My guess: Coyote is going to tell Annie about the Seed Bismuth.

Shhh...You shouldn't tell. It's a secret!
Anyway, I doubt that the Seed Bismuth is the secret. Coyote came to the neighbourhood only after the Seed had been used and the Court had been found. And it wouldn't be his secret, but the Court's.

The secret is how he helped the Court trap Jeanne in the Annan Waters.

The secret is how he helped the Court trap Jeanne in the Annan Waters. I doubt he knows about that. He seemed genuinely puzzled by her etheric scar the time he showed her how to move things.

Keep in mind, whatever it is, Ysengrin isn't too keen on Annie knowing it.

Okay, then, that one was shot down...
His secret is that they secretly kill all the people who turn into animals the second they aren't visible from the Court anymore.
(thinking of worse things every time)

That Coyote needs a fresh stock of stories to tell about himself or his powers will fade and he'll wither away...

Come on, it's Coyote.
ANNIE: You'll really tell me your great secret? COYOTE: Yes, yes! It is SUCH a Great Secret! Why, the Court would love to know it! You must promise not to tell them. ANNIE: I promise! C: It is such a Great Secret! The power of knowing could crush your mind! Are you sure you want to know it? A: Yes! C: Ysengrin might be mad at me for telling you. A: I'm sure he won't mind. C: You reaaaaaaaaally want to know my Great Secret? My amazingly secret Great Secret? A: YES! C: Will you promise to tell me a story if I tell you the Great Secret! A, hopping up and down with excitement: TWO stories! C: Oh,OK. My great secret is that.... ... A: Go on! C: My favourite colour is blue.

I'm pretty sure the Great Secret is something along the lines of "we only exist as long as you keep believing in us" but I expect Tom to present it in a fresher, more interesting way.

I will guess Coyote's secret is why he is so powerful. This is a fast rehash of my older wildspec but in some versions of some Coyote stories he was given his abilities by the Great Spirit as a sort of guardian of the Old People, to prevent human people from supplanting them. This would be consistent with Coyote dividing the Wood and Court and his statement that the humans were trying to tame the powerful critters of the forest./shakefist I was just going to say IT'S PEOPLE! Soylent people is people? That is a tautology, whereas people people is people would be just redundancy, though possibly one that is fun to say.

That Coyote needs a fresh stock of stories to tell about himself or his powers will fade and he'll wither away... Ooooooh that's a good theory I like it. He is only as mighty as much as people think he is, and if you don't believe in him, he can't hurt you. Like Freddy Krueger. Or the dancing plague. Here's a brief adventure comic (only takes about an hour to read) about a realm where mythological creatures live which goes by a variant of this idea--society runs on belief as a currency and the more people believe in a certain person or creature, the more that bucko is able to do. I promise I am not a paid shill I only want to satisfy the insatiable curiosity for stories so we are not all killed in a tricksy typhoon.

Also Coyote is bored with his job after all this time and wants to "gift" them to another

Also Coyote is bored with his job after all this time and wants to "gift" them to another My take is that the chaos Coyote causes with his powers (whether he is using them or someone else is) acts as a counterbalance to mankind's efforts to become gods and/or bend the Old People to their will. Coyote is actually a girl? And pregnant. I remember that story. The part when Coyote molded himself some functional lady-parts to trick his husband-to-be was particularly disturbing.

It could be a number of things: 1) Coyote tells Annie the identity and the full story behind the man who was possessed and killed by Reynardine (My personal favorite theory since that arc has not been mentioned in a while and Coyote seems interested in getting Reynard back. Possibly he will tell the story in a negative light so as to try to induce Annie to sending him back) 2) Coyote tells Annie something of the Surma-Eglamore-Anthony triangle (not likely but may result from Annie telling the story of her hospitalization to Coyote) 3) Coyote tells something about "wandering eye" Jones (somewhat unlikely since Annie already has an explanation from Ysingrin, but it's possible Coyote knows more about Jones) 4) Coyote tells something about the original formation of GC, his reasons for creating the Annan Waters or anything about what GC is doing with their towers and power plants now. 5) Coyote tells something that may be related to the story of Jeanne, but from a different end, so to speak, from the forest point of view, maybe something about the green not-legolas. I think it's curious that of all the families he could have placed Annie with in the summer he placed her with people that look a lot like him. Take your pick

It could also be that "the great secret" is something Annie is going to tell Coyote without realizing that he would regard it one.
Could be about the ether collecting station, or perhaps something about the Tic Tocs. It's been a while since they have been mentioned too...

Whatever it is, we'll probably have to go through a few Native American tales about Coyote first.

Take your pick But Coyote says that it's his Great Secret. Not someone else's secret, not a secret unrelated to him, but his secret. I suspect that the secret has something to do with Coyote's motivation for travelling to Britain, and sharing his powers with Ysengrin and Reynardine.
