I'd love Annie's face in the fifth panel as my avatar, it quite plainly says she ain't in the mood for bullshit. Coyote is quite pissed.

This is why Zimmy should be the medium. Better fangs.

Although I do suspect Annie is definitely presuming too much here, she may well have this under more control than it may seem.
Imagine the next three panels as follows:
Panel 1: Annie gaping in astonishment and fear. Panel 2: Annie suddenly breaking out into a broad grin. Panel 3: Annie rolling on the ground laughing: "AHAHAHAHA! Your face!"
Or put another way: if she can spin this as having gotten a rise out of Coyote, she may well get away with it.

I choose to believe that Ysengrin deliberately tells stupid and boring stories just so Coyote will leave him alone (with his fish).

Kind of a Looney Tunes look on Coyote's enraged face, isn't there?
While he looks totally scary, I'm convinced Annie knows what she's doing. She's seen enough of Coyote by now. And standing up for Ysengrin is just awesome.

And I'm pretty convinced this will lead to Ysengrin having to pick between Coyote and Annie, as in, defending her from him. You beat me to it. While I'm sure Coyote's not happy with Annie right now (don't challenge the alpha dog unless you have the bite to back it up), it seems the one really being tested here is Ysengrin. Defend the god to whom you've been completely devoted, but who treats you with derision and disdain, or defend the representative of your life-long enemy, but who's shown compassion and caring? I don't fear for Y's life here...but I do wonder where the story could turn if Coyote ends up saying something like "You like this human so much? Fine, you will leave with her when she returns to the Court."

Annie probably should've noticed the point where Coyote stopped smiling. He does seem to be serious here... Panel 3, with Coyote's surprised expression, seems to be the moment she actually crossed some line from amusingly defiant to actually pissing him off. Yeah, that's what I thought too. Annie is too comfortable with his fun loving, harmless prankster side. She seems to have forgotten that he is also a reality-sundering eldritch abomination powerful enough to spread her atoms across the cosmos with a backhanded slap. I don't know whats coming, but with such a reaction from Ysengrin of all people it's going to be bad, so bad.

It's true that Coyote is a god, but we've gotta remember he's a dog, too. Like Reynardine jumps and wags his tail and Ysengrin licks hands, this could just be a dog thing. I don't think Annie realized how her human body language was translating to dog language here. Unlike other times she's hit Coyote/shoved him off for being a jerk ( spankies! shove and kick in the face), there was prolonged and intense eye contact first. If this really is his doggish self showing through here, then what she just did would basically transverse the line between play-wrestling and a slap to the face. And not even many humans would just laugh that off. This might be her first lesson in translation. As for Annie being a brat, yeah, she kind of is, but to be fair she's transitioning from hardcore bottler to expressing her wants and needs. I can say from experience that it's hard to find that fine line between being too silent and being too demanding while making that transition! And oh my Lawdy, Ysengrin. Oh my Lawdy Lawd Lawd. I think you're analyzing their actions before a bit much. The eye contact doesn't matter. So much as whether coyote is deliberately doing something that he knows will get a physical reaction, or being serious. Then he was violating her space, knowing from the first encounter that Annie would react physically ( SPANKIES!) and now has done the same several times (the shove, kick in the chops) knowing the same would happen. Now he was being Serious. No smile, his eyes matching the bored casual glare that Annie gave him. He might've been offended before when she appears to have stood up and turned her back on him. The flick to the nose wouldn't help! So many people here are taking Coyote at face value which is dangerous to do. Sure Coyote never lies, but just because he says something truthful isn't the entire truth. He could easily attack her now and say that "no harm will come to you" was true so long as she obeyed him. (As evidenced by the bind on her wrist earlier) Or snarl and growl and say "no, your friends here are as boring as the ones back at the court, so I'll tell you a story!" Tricksters are tricky, and thinking you know one is dangerous. Even for you miss "Medium in Training and Eternal Detention!"

I'm going to guess that Annie knows exactly what she's doing. Remember, she lived in the forest for a time; I doubt she hasn't tested, at least subtly, what Coyote's boundaries are.
And yeah, I get that Annie's been acting out a bit, but I don't think she's in the wrong here about Coyote.

For such a dramatic side to Coyote we've not really seen before (Threats? Yes. Fury? No) people are being remarkably calm about all this.
(Tom has shown himself to be a master of 'bait and switch' narration before, so Wednesday will be ... interesting. Carvered steaks? Could be! Could be!)
Another possibility, as Annie gazes into that raging maw full of coyote teeth, she clicks her fingers, says 'That reminds me! About your...' and Coyote glancing worriedly at Ysengrin, hisses a quick *STFU!* on her, and backs down.

I'm reminded that Antimony is truly an adolescent, and can be expected to be a bit erratic. Lack of judgment goes with the territory.

For such a dramatic side to Coyote we've not really seen before (Threats? Yes. Fury? No) He bapped Ysengrin through a stone pillar. But there are no pillars in the forest! He'll have to tell Annie his greatest secret instead.

He could easily attack her now and say that "no harm will come to you" was true so long as she obeyed him. Or that it applied only to her initial visit to the forest. Exactly. Plenty of things he could come up with here and teach this somewhat bratty-medium in training a lesson. Well, Really they're both in the wrong. Coyote is being...self centered and a bit childish. Not to mention forgetting, he's this immortal deity thing and Annie is just a human. Plus ignoring how faithfully Ysengrin serves him, which for him is pretty normal. Annie is being just as self-centered and childish. She's ignoring the rules of the court, ignoring just what Coyote is. A medium might get away with shrugging the court and Coyote off, a medium in training who can't stay out of trouble definitely cannot. I'm reminded that Antimony is truly an adolescent, and can be expected to be a bit erratic. Lack of judgment goes with the territory. Yup, and Coyote can be just as erratic. This should be interesting. For such a dramatic side to Coyote we've not really seen before (Threats? Yes. Fury? No) He bapped Ysengrin through a stone pillar. But there are no pillars in the forest! He'll have to tell Annie his greatest secret instead. Let's hope so, even for Ysengrin that looked like that hurt quite a bit. I don't think we want to see if Annie can take it. I can't wait for this secret!

I recall the pillar bapping incident (hope Annie did!). It shows Coyote's power in that he can take down Ysengrin in full battle-mode with a casual swipe (on the other hand, there was an element of subterfuge going on as well.. Y dropped unquarantined seeds...)
In terms of mood, though, Coyote was just showing assertiveness, not berserker rage!

Guys, I know how this ends: - Annie dies. Immediately. - Annie and Mort become ghost besties - Kat falls into a vat of servos and becomes a robot somehow the end.

Annie has already had all the adrenaline drained from her adrenal glands thanks to Coyote's " Boo to you." two pages ago, so I doubt she'll be as easily startled this time. I'd like to see her pull a little etheric show of her own. It's not like she'd hurt Coyote or Ys at all, but it certainly would show that she's not one to be easily cowed.

Annie has to start realizing there are forces, sinister forces moving behind the screen here vying for control. If Antimony is being foolish here, I do NOT think it's in the area of not recognizing that there are "sinister forces moving behind the scenes vying for control". I think it's in believing herself ready to be one of those forces. That day will come, but not yet; she's still a cub, and belongs on the periphery of such battles.

We've already seen one ruse where Coyote and Ysengrin pretend to have a dispute and where Ysengrin lies his pants off while pretending to be sincerely outraged.... ...and now we have Coyote and Ysengrin playing this good cop-bad cop game with Annie where Coyote does everything in his power to make Ysengrin look vulnerable and comforting and just a big fuzzy teddy bear. Quite the opposite of their early appearances, where Coyote was good cop and Ysengrin was bad cop. I wonder who would have ordered that change and why, Annie? Unfortunately, she's too naive to think about this....

We don't actually know how long they were there, or what they were doing to her personality. It may be hard for her to cope with the change.

I've never threatened someone I'd decided I was going to harm, I've always just gone along and done it. Annie could stand to wind her neck back in but, if she doesn't keep pushing it, I think she should be fine.

Then again, something tells me she's going to need more than a wicked right cross to knock a god on his ass.

If she had been anyone else he wouldn't have waited that long. Ysegrin was using his rage as a cover to plant some seeds to the Court floor, which presumably would have grown into some kind of magical spy plants, or something. He wasn't mad with rage as he pretended, but calculated every move. It was the first hint that he was smarter than he looked.

Pretty sure Annie is not in serious trouble. Coyote knows Annie, and he knew Surma well, and Annie is her mother's daughter. (My own guess is that fire elementals inherit their mother's soul, as it were; if so, Annie more-or-less is Surma.) Coyote knew exactly what he'd get when he asked her to come for no apparent reason. Her cocky reaction may well have been his plan all along, and if it wasn't, he'll be far too vain to admit that she surprised him.
Coyote will grasp the opportunity to tell Annie something ugly about the forest, the court, and her role in it all, as a proxy for Tom telling us. The chapter is called The Great Secret for a reason.

She could even friendship them into letting her have a second chance at life! She was friends with them, but not anymore. It was hinted that she's not really too fond of them anymore or at least not Muut. Not since the night she helped Surma pass over all by herself.
