GAAAAAH! It's like an infinite plane of existence consisting of Coyote's supernaturally sharp teeth!
On a related note, does anyone else mentally read Coyote's lines in Mark Hamill's joker voice?

Methinks fire-head girl is playing with lit matches!
Great way to get a story, Coyote!
(Is this another play for Ysengrin's benefit, or does the next panel show Ysengrin bearing the remnants back to Eglamore?)

I'm assuming Annie became so indignant so quickly because he insulted Ysengrin, which is nice because it means they're becoming more friendly, and I like that.

Except for the line "I want to go to the village and see my friends", Annie's great here. As Coyote once advised, stand your ground.
Of course it might not work out anyway.

Annie is pissing off both the Court AND Coyote. . . she may be medium material after all. . . and I love Ysengrin's "O SHI-" in the background. . .

Coyote should just summon Winsbury and Jane - they tell the best stories.

And with that we saw the end of Antimony Carver. Join us next week for Gunnerkrigg Court: a tale of a 14-year-old girl who must simultaneously deal with the departure of her best friend as the discovery of how to construct perfectly human limbs in robot form.
Or rather... no, that is not very likely. With that being said, Annie: what the heck are you thinking?

Annie can't help playing with fire, she was born that way.
But seriously, between the blowing off of the court's detentions and being all "I wanna go to Toshi Station to pick up some power converters" here, she's starting to come off as a bit of a self-absorbed brat. Although given that she's dealing with the King Brat himself here, it can probably be a bit forgiven.
Incidentally, the way Coyote constantly humiliates Ysengrin in Annie's presence is really getting over the top. I have a feeling that it's all a big ploy by Coyote (with or without Y's knowledge) to get Annie as sympathetic as possible to Ysengrin, though... one of these days, I'm expecting Annie to have to choose between Ysengrin and Reynardine...

Hooooo man!
Time to find out how fast she can run on bare feet. (Hint: It ain't fast enough)
Seriously though, I can't wait to see how this will turn out. Maybe going by the chapter's title, Coyote will go on an angry plot-relevant rant alá Fire Spike.
In closing, don't you just love how ol' crazy Coyote is at his creepiest when he's not smiling?

Well, story or no story, I guess he isn't bored anymore, so mission accomplished? Seriously though, Annie is getting way too reckless for my taste lately. That attitude is gonna get her in some serious trouble sooner or later. By the looks of it sooner rather than later.

Looks like someone practiced drawing profiles a lot. I like it.
Also, getting people mad at her has been a major plot advancement device in the past, e.g., insulting Rey enough to get him to tell her that Surma died because she'd had Annie. Painful truth in 3... 2... 1... and for the sake of shedding some light on the many mysteries of GC, I hope Annie never learns her lesson to stop doing that. Right now she certainly seems right on track not to learn.

I think Ys might end up defending her against Coyote.
Edit: When did she become such a cocky idiot? D;

You fool, he was clearly in a foul mood.
Yup this went about as well as expected. She presumed to much. Coyote is basically a god and very old. While being candid with such a being could be seen as cute on occasion by it.
Sort of like typical. "Check out the balls on this guy. He's a funny guy I like him." Gangster response.
Once coyote put that bracelet on her, it was obvious that he was making some statement on the matter. Also his "Scare" when she first appeared seemed very sinister to me. His way of saying.
"Yeah funny, but I'm mad at you." A warning if you will that he was in no mood to be taken lightly.
While Coyote is insufferable, which his very nature. Annie herself does come off as a bit of brat here. She defiantly needed to be taken down a notch. She's buying into her own hype lately. But much like the above post mentioned. She's fire, it's in her nature.
On a more grim note.
I think Ysengrin is about to intervene here and get rocked for it. He is a tool to coyote, nothing more and one that is outliving his usefulness and fun.
Coyote is a trickster god, similar to Loki, and anything but benevolent. No better or worse than the court itself. Though I doubt anyone here doubts that.
Keeping that in mind, he's also a god of nature. Nature is unpredictable and dangerous if you get too comfortable which she clearly has.
Annie has to start realizing there are forces, sinister forces moving behind the screen here vying for control.

I'm assuming Coyote's promise that "no harm will come to her" while she's visiting him still stands, so I don't think she's in any immediate danger. However it's still not smart to piss of a god.

Annie probably should've noticed the point where Coyote stopped smiling. He does seem to be serious here... Panel 3, with Coyote's surprised expression, seems to be the moment she actually crossed some line from amusingly defiant to actually pissing him off.
And I'm pretty convinced this will lead to Ysengrin having to pick between Coyote and Annie, as in, defending her from him.

Oh man, now you made me actually worried. Say, Coyoters is actually really pissed here, Ysengrin decides to defend Annie since they're on such good terms now and Ys ends up killed. Now wouldn't that be a brutal eye-opener for Annie?

It's true that Coyote is a god, but we've gotta remember he's a dog, too. Like Reynardine jumps and wags his tail and Ysengrin licks hands, this could just be a dog thing. I don't think Annie realized how her human body language was translating to dog language here. Unlike other times she's hit Coyote/shoved him off for being a jerk ( spankies! shove and kick in the face), there was prolonged and intense eye contact first. If this really is his doggish self showing through here, then what she just did would basically transverse the line between play-wrestling and a slap to the face. And not even many humans would just laugh that off. This might be her first lesson in translation. As for Annie being a brat, yeah, she kind of is, but to be fair she's transitioning from hardcore bottler to expressing her wants and needs. I can say from experience that it's hard to find that fine line between being too silent and being too demanding while making that transition! And oh my Lawdy, Ysengrin. Oh my Lawdy Lawd Lawd.

Too many funny and insightful comments on today's comic to reply to, so I'll just pick one that made me LAUGHING ON LINE: Coyote should just summon Winsbury and Jane - they tell the best stories. What a great idea! I get all caught up in what's going on right now in the story, and had totally forgotten their riding-on-horses, street-racing dream story. Absolutely fantastic! ;D

Firstly, Coyote's snout is very rubbery.
Secondly, the best Ysengrin.
Thirdly, I'd be surprised if whatever evaluation Annie is doing in panel 5 turns out to be very much wrong.

On one hand Annie is being kind of bratty, in the "I don't want to work, I want to have fun" kind of way. On the other, Coyote is being much brattier, insisting that Annie's sole purpose is to entertain him, regardless of her other duties. He's a god ofcourse, and above the values of mere mortals, but Annie is the Court's medium in training, and shouldn't just bend over to his whims like she was his subject or something. I suspect that the lesson of standing her ground needs to be put to a good use, now.
I'm still not sure if Coyote is just going to laugh it off after giving Annie a good scare; he's done that a couple of times, now ("You think that I don't know a ruse when I see one?"). I don't think that he's ever shown anger for more than one panel before going back to his old trickster self. This may very well be just another test of character.

Coyote takes a foot in the face in stride but is nonplussed by a flick of the hand.
