Oh that third panel is so lovely. It seems Annie and Ys made some sort of connection last time. He did show more compassion than I ever thought, the last time they met.

On top of what everyone's said, another thing I love about the third panel is that we get a good look at how little eyeshadow Annie's wearing. It hasn't quite reached up to her eyebrows in a while, but it's noticeably less now.

And this page is the perfect example of why this is my favorite webcomic. I've always loved Ysengrin. Even though most of their time in the forest together over the summer was spent in silence, this page really shows how much they've grown together. How by merely lending her his presence and strength, and by extension comfort, they have grown comfortable with each other, and gotten to know each other in a very intimate way. It's not necessary to have to talk constantly, which is something I think is forgotten a lot. In a way, I kind of had the same thought. Not necessarily that she's liking the forest too much, but rather that she's not being as neutral as a medium should be. She not the medium yet, so I'm not sure how important it is at current, but her blatant disregard for the authority of the Court can't be good. Preference should not be something a medium should have, and respect (as well as skepticism) for both sides is necessary. But again, she's young and not the medium, and who doesn't enjoy climbing trees... or rough and hardened wolf gods? I've always loved Ysengrin too <3 Well we've got to remember that Surma apparently spent a lot of time in the forest as well. She also blatantly disregarded the court, except that SHE never got caught! Besides, who's to say that Annie wouldn't blatantly disregard the authority of the forest as well, if it were to have any? (Aside from Coyote's binding, since that's a little different from detention.)

(Aside from Coyote's binding, since that's a little different from detention.) I've always wondered if Ysengrin lost his ear because of a binding from Coyote... Not all authority should be followed, and it is good that Annie isn't blindly following the will of the Court. A love of the forest will definitely be necessary for the job I'm assuming she's going to get ((though, I'm sure if the Court is picking the medium, then they'd want one biased towards them. I'm sure the forest gets a say in the choosing as well, though.)) XD This is mostly just me jumping too far ahead, and worrying unnecessarily.

I love this page so much. It's gorgeous and adorable and it says everything despite not having any dialogue. I think I would love a print of that third panel and paste it all over my room. Absolutely, I would love a poster of this whole page! A huge one. And I would display it proudly.

I love how, by sitting on his back, Annie's put Ysengrim between her and Eglamore — between her and the Court.

I think we all assumed that until last chapter when we realized her makeup was a metaphorical mask and proceeded to reread the whole story to contemplate all instances of makeup removal. Just me? Anyway, ASSUME NOTHING.

However, I still want to know what's going on! We don't know why she collapsed last chapter, what her dad was doing, and now, why has Coyote asked her into the forest? So many questions! You didn't get used to this yet? This is adorable, but doesn't Annie seem quite contored in the third panel? She's all wrapped around that tree-shoulder. I love how, by sitting on his back, Annie's put Ysengrim between her and Eglamore Not really, 'Grin seemed to stand half-turned and on the way out he obviously will turn fully.

Obviously. But for now - the two of them in that last 'panel' must be looking at Eglamore. When has she ever been so comfortable with any adult from the Court? There's a division there that runs deeper than where they're standing, anyway.

Panel breaks? In Gunnerkrigg Court? Usually the only times that happens are when someone's in the ether. Eh, it's the Forest. Close Enough. And can I just say that the Forest background in Panel 3 is GORGEOUS. It looks painted. The diffused light... so pretty. Great work, Tom.

"Suddenly," Tom declared loudly, sitting in his amazing drawing area, "I will show them something stunning and gorgeous." And the fans answered, "Tom, you succeeded. When are you going to do something unusual?"

This is one of those pages that are really gorgeous, but I can't think of anything to say. Except that in panel three, I really worry for Annie's spine. People shouldn't bend that way. A pity, since it's otherwise a great sight.

Love the almost surreal movement in the second panel, and the way Ysengrin casually turns that arm huge just so she can run up it is awesome. Also, seconding Necropaxx, dat forest! Incredible background art there.
Is Ysengrin seeming stronger than usual? He doesn't seem to be shaking or anything here.

I hope that Ysengrin continues to be some sort of father figure for Annie. (But why do I have this sinking feeling that he'll pass away?) Ysengrin is a supernatural being of sorts - not a divine being, but an archetype. He cannot truly die, or even be permanently injured by "real-world" events, while the tales continue to be told or read. (On the other hand, archetypes are quite vulnerable to new stories that are so good and so successful that they alter or split the mythos. For example, there's this cartoonist in Britain who has taken the gruff, strong, independent, not-overly-smart Ysengrin familiar to French children for hundreds of years, and turned him into a palsied master of trees and lackey of a Native American deity.)

Sorry Eglamore, if you ever want to be friends with Annie like that, you'll have to try to kill her. Maybe if he throws his cool energy sword at her head or something?
That or maybe she just really likes dogs.

Keep in mind, she's young and assuredly more limber than older folks with arthritis in their joints ;] Limber is one thing, but that position is downright serpentine. Annie's torso at least 170 degrees around from her legs! Hey, even the best do minor art errors every now and then, especially when they must draw and colour a page for three days of a week for months and months. Doesn't mean that I don't appreciate the scene, or anything.

Wait, has Ysengrin's ear always been like that and I just haven't noticed?
I do not have a good feeling about this chapter. At all. Too serene. Annie's about to get sucker punched by a sack of bricks.

Annie's about to get sucker punched by a sack of bricks. Yeah, Yis is missing one of his ears. Maybe he was fighting Coyote. I know I wouldn't be happy if some young whippersnapper from the native trickster legend of a continent far away just decided to come to my forest and assume control.

BEFORE he started trying to twist her further around. A polite and friendly canine greeting. At least Ys has adapted so that she can sniff his *head*...

Sorry Eglamore, if you ever want to be friends with Annie like that, you'll have to try to kill her. [mad hat] She knows she tend to " just bring that out in people" and still expects an attempt until it happens! [/mad hat] Wait, has Ysengrin's ear always been like that and I just haven't noticed? Yup. It also bears a strange trace, perhaps chopped off by some magical weaopn (there was a Court symbol in the Third Treatise). Wow, I just now noticed how beautiful the background is in the final panel. Forest in the morning mist and Tom's art. Now they met each other.

My friend thinks that its possible that Ysengrin could try pulling a Surma on Annie. That somehow he'll trick her the same way that Surma tricked Reynard. Then the forest will keep Annie prisoner to somehow negotiate freeing Reynard.
