I am the opposite of exasperated. The dream imagery did throw me for a bit of a loop at first and I misinterpreted the teethy-loop because I was expecting to see the cause of Antimony's affliction too soon. I didn't really expect that one to be answered before the chapter end anyway. yee!! I am enjoying this chapter too, it really has been jam packed with storyline stuff. The whole Ann thing was alittle bait and switch! I was expecting her dire situation to be the driving force of this chapter but... LAUGHING ON LINE it seems everyone else but the patient are having problems.

I I am still curious if Zimmy and Gamma are physically present or not. I don't think we can know that until people "wake up" and either notice them or Kat gets astonished by their sudden disappearance and/or selective invisibility. I'm still giving odds that the former is correct and that means that Zimmy or Gamma can "pause" people but we shall see. I didn't really expect that one to be answered before the chapter end anyway. I'm pretty sure that Zimmy is physically present, if only for the fact that it would be pretty contrived even for this chapter to have her etherally present in two locations at the same time. Yeah, Jack had many duplicates in Zimmingham, but those represented different memories or personality fragments, whereas the Zimmy holding Annie's hand seems to be simply paralyzed while her spirit is outside.

If they could figure out who was who in between all the body switcheroos, that is. I sure can't. If people always hallucinated when she was in the room, you'd know soon enough to put a bullet in her. Even if, while she was there, those hallucinating couldn't tell who she was. It would just be a matter of setting up a device that would do it regardless of the perception of the people hallucinating. If there wasn't some limiting criteria though, since everyone would be manifesting the same symptoms, there'd be no way to tell who it was even if they weren't body surfing.

Solution: If you find yourself in Zimmingham, kill everyone. ;D

I was thinking something similar, we're whining too much about this chapter. Almost everyone who is active in the forums these days are archive readers, so it might be difficult to understand, but imagine when the first chapter ended, it was really nothing else than the shadow and the robot. I've been following this comic since 2006, when Ch 7 was the latest chapter. You folks who think this chapter is frustrating to follow on a serial basis? This is NOTHING compared to some of those ancient chapters.

It's very frustrating for me. My only reliable internet at the moment is via my phone, and that's not even very reliable. Even still, I cannot wait to see what happens next.
Observations:
Two zimmies? Oh crap. Get Gamma!
Everyone is still! This has multiple explanations - my preferred relates to the alternate flow of time in Zimmingham. They aren't frozen - Zimmy is just looking at them from inside Zimmingham. (This may also explain why Gamma and Kat/CityFace were able to function normally, but everyone else was asleep/frozen.) An alternate explanation is that Kat is waiting for Zimmy to say/do something, and can't detect Ether/Psychic/Other Zimmy due to her lack of ability to sense or do anything non-ordinary (except build robots and robo-cults).
nobody!Jack has caught Zimmy! Problems! Also creepy as eff! If you go back a couple pages there are some mysterious silhouettes in Zimmy's fire-eye-spray. You also see nobody!Jack's silhouette in the panel before he grabs Zimmy. Possible forshadowing... but a bit late for us to be realizing it. Backshadowing?
Regardless Zimmy is in trouble. She's terrified of the nobodies. Only Annie and Gamma have shown the ability to deal with them. I don't expect Zimmy to be able to do anything about this situation - either Gamma has to bust in or Annie has to wake up. Things may get worse before they get better.

People would just kill the schizophrenics. (turns TV on) (hastily turns TV off) nope, still on air. I don't see why everyone is so exasperated with this chapter O.o This is like.... THE Zimmy chapter. I was thinking something similar As i wrote, duh. So... how long to "everyone fails to see why everyone is so exasperated with this chapter"? ;D Almost everyone who is active in the forums these days are archive readers After comparing the shiny oiled Chekhov's Armory of the previous chapters with things discovered in the last dozen of threads, i disagree with this notion, but will limit myself to the punchline of an old anecdote: "Chukchee is not a reader, Chukchee is a writer". We've had an apparent confirmation that Anthony is working on some etheric tech that can affect Antimony's fire, which has been a subject of speculation on this forum for years and years. Now the question is, did he start working on it before Surma became weakened or after (or in other words did he take Surma's "curse" seriously from the beginning or not)? Yes! And now we at long last see it finally confirmed that all this time Anthony hid his true talents from everyone secretly training on his Moon base on the Moon and pretending he does not understand this magical stuff at all and i bet he turns out to be very talkative too! going from Archives to weekly pages is brutal. Ah, ol' good archive binge withdrawal...

It's been awhile for me since I made my initial archive binge (year and a half I believe), and I guess that's why this really isn't frustrating me. But a friend of mine who I recently got into the comic came over today and was like "So tell me, wtf is going on in Gunnerkrigg Court." I told her of my and some of the forum goer's theories, but that wasn't enough. She's BURNING to know what's going to happen, while I am just happy to read as the pages come.
We need a name for this phenomenon.
Edit: I guess two years and then some, according to my forum join date. Jesus, time flies!

X.x , going from Archives to weekly pages is brutal. And gosh golly trying to imagine going through the first zimmyham incident on a weekly basis? My brain would have been more fried than it is now. It probably made even less sense back then since it wasn't drawn as well as it is now Also- fail to notice a slight difference a Nobodies in hair? never again Ooh, I was here then! I've been here since... oh... late part of chapter 8, right around the time Kat used her hovercraft to rescue Annie after the latter fell off the bridge. It's been a long road. However, folks who say there have been no mysteries solved in this comic are quite wrong. We've learned about Annie's parents, we've learned what the shadows are, we've learned about the robots, we've learned who the ghost at the riverbank is, we've learned why people knew Surma had to be dead when they met Annie, we've learned lots and lots of things. Of course there are lots of mysteries left: that's the way this place works. But we have fun with them nonetheless. Sure, this chapter is confuzzling and I have only a vague idea of what's going on, but that's what happens when Zimmy gets involved. You get used to it.

We need a name for this phenomenon. Gunnerdiction Noun - The process by which a hapless soul is held captive by a sequential 48 hour dose of art and storytelling. The user will feel a brief sense of euphoria upon ingestion of each dose, followed by mania, anxiety and deep introspection. Users are often hooked by a very large initial dose, equivalent to over a thousand times the daily value. Long term side effects include schizoid-like symptoms, paranoia, sleep deprivation, loss of employment and terminal fan fiction. There is no known LD50, and as of yet, no cure. (Hah! As if we would want one.)

So I skimmed through this chapter the first time I read it (as I did for most chapters upon my first reading since I really wanted to get back to Kat x Paz) and I just reread it. I can't believe I didn't even question what the heck was going on in this chapter. Anthony being punched, shattering some kind of bone structure growing out of Annie, and Annie waking up after that?
I guess I assumed that it was a nonsensical dream sequence and Anthony wasn't really punched. But if we assume that Zimmy did punch him to release Annie from the bones growing out of her... what was Anthony doing to poor Annie that caused her to go unconscious?
EDIT: Anthony is starting to remind me of Gendo from Evangelion
(hope this isn't necro, this just seemed like the appropriate thread)

I agree, although perhaps only because I dislike Tony intensely.

And I just realised: Does anyone know what happened to Surma's body?

But if we assume that Zimmy did punch him to release Annie from the bones growing out of her... what was Anthony doing to poor Annie that caused her to go unconscious? Anthony shot at her BONELAZERS from his Secret Moonbase on the Moon, in an attempt to bring back Surma. Which was the result of the intense secret studies of necromancy he took while feigning lack of interest or trust in magic, back from before he knew Surma. I hope this covers everything so far.
