when she put the mask on and took it off again, the forest scene vanished. Possibly significant? Like the transition to the cherry tree scene is on a second level a transition from the world outside her mask (the forest, and that for which she wears it) to how she feels underneath it (as elaborated by the cherry tree scene)? That's how the third panel transition on 1039 seems to portray it, at least. (Sorry that this isn't exactly current-page discussion...)

I don't think Antimony needs any help from Jones to be stoic and unflinching, she had that already, courtesy of Carver Sr's genes and wondrous, hands-on parental style. Really, somebody give that guy a medal. He knows how to be a dad. He's running up against Vader, and that guy has multiple degrees in feel-good doting fatherhood. True, he's just scarpered off somewhere, instead of cutting her hand off.

I don't see any indication that these scenes are chronological, nor that they have absolute parallels in real-life. After all, Annie apparently has the mask at the cherry tree, before she ever meets Jones in the comic, and long before her encounter with Kamlen in the woods. They are sequential, unless got connected randomly - in that "Jones walks in, Elfsberry Jr. walks out" at least can't be mistaken for the opposite. But don't mind me, if regular mentions of this make you feel good or something, go on. If you don't mind people noting on how this high horse sticks above the horizon a bit too far, anyway... ;D Like the transition to the cherry tree scene is on a second level a transition from the world outside her mask (the forest, and that for which she wears it) to how she feels underneath it (as elaborated by the cherry tree scene)? M-m-maybe. Unless it's just because the dream is less than clear. That's how the third panel transition on 1039 seems to portray it, at least. (It also doesn't help that his kid-self bears an eerie resemblance to me at a similar age.)

What I want to know is, where did Zimmy's hat come from? It may not seem like that big of a detail, but this is a dream. So is Antimony aware of Zimmy and gave her a hat, or is Zimmy screwing around in Annie's dream giving herself hats?

So is Antimony aware of Zimmy and gave her a hat, or is Zimmy screwing around in Annie's dream giving herself hats? It's pretty clear if you look at the original scene that this flashback is an echo from. The hat belongs to Bob the groundskeeper who ran into Kat and Annie when they were playing at the cherry tree. In this flashback Zimmy takes Bob's place, and assumes some of his trappings, like the hat and the lightning effect.
