Wait, am I missing something? I thought Annie pushed the real world boat before she had time to talk with Coyote.

I start to see now that fairies (also maybe the animals that became humans too) don't call each other by a real name like john or something like how Red called blue whatshername back in chapter 15 and that fish guy.
edit: whats with the faces tom? They look dumbfounded XD

Now they just encourage each other. I like those fairies. They instantly understood the prank potential. ^_^ Wait, am I missing something? I thought Annie pushed the real world boat before she had time to talk with Coyote. It's not like Red or the rest were likely to see it.

Wait, am I missing something? I thought Annie pushed the real world boat before she had time to talk with Coyote. Coyote taught Annie how to pick flowers while Etheric. Annie has been practicing on her own since then. whats with the faces tom? They look dumbfounded XD Obviously not everyone in the forest can touch the real world from the ether.

Blue is acting very green today. I wonder if etheric snitches can get etheric stitches.

Not that it would be always a good thing. Blue is acting very green today. I wonder if etheric snitches can get etheric stitches. Well, technically the "teacher lady" stands right there. But yeah, now it looks more like Blue's jealous and about to perform some Party Pooper Routine. Not that it was quite uncalled for at this point.

Ahahaha, those faces in the background are ridiculously silly. Love it when you loosen up, Tom.

Ooooh someone's jealous.
It's weird, for some reason I was thinking of Blue as the victim in the whole "won't be friends because of hair" scenario, but (assuming Red was telling the truth) she was actually the one who started it all in the first place by refusing to talk to Red until her hair went up. Maybe her magic fairy power is being a petty bitch?

Wow, that caught me for a loop. I just assumed that being from Gillitie, the Foleyans would have much more knowledge/skills in the aether than Annie. I guess this means that bridging the aether-physical world barrier is not at all a common skill! Who knew! It seems that it's really not apparent yet to Annie or the reader what is considered normal or not in terms of general aetheric ability. I mean, in the space of a few minutes, the Foleyans scoff at Annie's 'training wheels' blinker stone, but then ooooh and aaaah over her little display of fire elementality and interaction with the physical world. I'm a little surprised that Annie hasn't learned more about general aethericness in the Forest populations during her summer there. It seems she just focused on herself then (as she is often wont to do). That Coyote though, he's sure given Annie some powerful and rare gifts, hasn't he? What a guy. Although when you think about it, this aether-to-physical bridging skill of Annie's is absolutely a perfect and essential skill to being a proper Medium, I would think. I can't see Parley or Smitty being chosen over her without highly developing their conscious ability to interact with the aetheric realm (rather than just their specific abilities which do rely on aetheric power, but without access to the same realm as Annie and the rest of the Foleyans I see that as a glaring disadvantage). I wonder if that was part of Jones' motivation in encouraging Annie to take up Coyote's offers to visit with him in the Wood (wait what am i saying it's Jones of course it was) Wait, am I missing something? I thought Annie pushed the real world boat before she had time to talk with Coyote. Page 682Page 704

I actually like that theory, because it gives Fats McGe-- I mean, Red, more of the benefit of the doubt there. And I really like Red. And Blue certainly looks like she's about to be a bigtime party pooper.

Seems that while Foley students can leave their bodies acting on automatic while their minds float around in the ether, they can't interact with the real world. Annie, on the other hand, can interact with physical objects, but still doesn't know how to let her body keep acting as normal while her mind is vacant. At the moment it seems to just stop whenever she's in the ether. Except for this page where she both smiles and talks while absent, but I doubt she could do anything as complicated as typing on a laptop. Perhaps greater control of her vacant body is something the Foley students can teach her. As for Blue - what a meanie-bo-beenie!

I just assumed that being from Gillitie, the Foleyans would have much more knowledge/skills in the aether than Annie. I guess this means that bridging the aether-physical world barrier is not at all a common skill! I suppose they got different specializations. In that while ex-fairies can't reach from there to here, i don't see Annie rusting her way through a steel plate. Of course, i can see (quite vividly) Annie blowtorching her way through a steel plate... and having that adorable innocent look when white-hot bouillon cubes fall out of the way, for that matter... But that's exactly a case of innate preferences. I mean, in the space of a few minutes, the Foleyans scoff at Annie's 'training wheels' blinker stone, but then ooooh and aaaah over her little display of fire elementality and interaction with the physical world. They're big little children, no? I'm a little surprised that Annie hasn't learned more about general aethericness in the Forest populations during her summer there. It seems she just focused on herself then (as she is often wont to do). Wasn't this the whole point of Annie's "summer break", explicitly proposed by Coyote? I can't see Parley or Smitty being chosen over her without highly developing their conscious ability to interact with the aetheric realm I doubt Parley is going to raise the issue on her own ever again, after "talking" with Jeanne. But by now the appropriate answer would be to the effect of nervous laughter and "You saw WHAT they swept under just one rug?! We'd be lucky if we all three can shovel this, and bet ya there are mountains of this on both sides of the bridge. I'm going to ask Kat about building a big damn bulldozer!"

Blue does not strike me as being any less petty than any of those in the class, merely that her reaction is far more defensive than the others for some reason. The reason for her seeing Annie as a 'threat' will probably be revealed eventually, but I suspect hope it'll be something more concrete than just simple jealousy.

I am also digging the background faces. They remind me of my own elementary school friends, except they looked like that all the time, not just when surprised. And not just when they were in the background, but from close up as well. Or maybe they were just perpetually surprised by modern life's complexities. Doesn't even know her Name! Somehow that didn't surprise me. I propose "Miss Pinky" until/unless we learn her real name.

I propose "Miss Pinky" until/unless we learn her real name. She also looks round, fluffy and sweet. Why not Sugarplum?

There are other considerations. Annie's been far more of a disciplinary problem for the Court in the past, and so they might not feel comfortable with her as a medium. On the other hand, she's paid far more attention to the frictions between the Court and the Wood than Parley or Smith have, especially Parley (note in Chapter Twenty-three that Parley doesn't even pretend being interested in being a medium - though after she got involved in the Jeanne business, that might have changed).

"Miss Pinky" would be in keeping with the whole Red/Blue naming scheme, though I admit that if we get an actual name for Red that may go out the window. Monday I figure we'll learn something about Miss Pinky's personality or at least her ability to handle a class... If she cranks the saccharine in response to her class being disrupted then I can go along with "Sugarplum" though I sorta suspect that the opposite may happen.

I mean really, if she's in the ether with the rest of them she just saw a random student burst into flames and made no comment. If she's not in the ether with them then she's been talking about oribtal mechanics for the last 20 minutes while her students are all rather obviously cocking around in a magic dimension. (Even if the Foley students are somehow not suspected of goofing off, Annie just walked in, looked around for a minute and promptly fell asleep with no repercussions.)
